  1. Also, what exactly do you need submitted?
  2. He's discussed some of his ideas with me, and I like them. Our only problem is getting them to work within the limitations of the system...shouldn't be TOO hard, but hmm... Since I'm new to this stuff, would you mind reminding me what the 2600 can and cannot do?
  3. I wish I could say it was awesome... 'Could not locate vbdwizcode.bas.bin and could not recompile. Please check to make sure it was compiled correctly.' WTF? And yes, I did try to compile...but it seems to blissfully ignore me clicking compile.
  4. I can't pick just one. It's impossible. I'm such a big fan of 2-d side scrollers, so I'll just list the ones that come to mind. Super Mario Bros. Gradius/Life Force R-Type Journey to Silius Metroid And those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. There's a buncha others I like and still a ton I have yet to play.
  5. I am curious to learn what makes the Atari 2600 a great system for you all. I'm an Atari 2600 fan myself, but I was surprised to learn that such a large fanbase preferred purchasing the console and hunting the games down over emulating them. Before I came to this site I was under the understanding that if you wanted to play abandoned old games, you'd just download an emulator and the roms, and I give more respect to all the members of this site who put forth the effort to find a 2600. The first time I ever experienced the 2600 was through a game my mother had once played long ago: Asteroids. I was underwhelmed at first, after all, the graphics were the worst thing I'd ever seen. Flickery, pixelated, and the asteroids all moved vertically. But I had fun playing it anyway. I also played a game called Oystron (sp?) which was hard to figure out at first but kinda fun as well. And I'll admit the sound effects were kinda cool (I'm a sucker for old blips and bleeps, it sounds really techno-ish). It was like an adventure back into the past, way past. Then I got a chance to play Activision Classics on a friend's PSX. Was a lot of fun, but didn't get to sample everything. Several years later I bought Activision Anthology for the PS2 and was hooked. There was always a certain nostalgic charm in playing Atari games and all but I don't think I ever really appreciated the Atari 2600 until I purchased that collection. A lot of the game surprised me and I was shocked at the kind of innovation that could be done on what I perceived to be a really old and weak console. That was pretty much the moment I became an Atari fan. Finally I bought the Flashback 2 because I wanted the authentic experience. To be honest, I preferred Activision's collection of games, but there were a couple of gems on there, Adventure being one of them, and I got to learn what the original joystick was like. About 1 or 2 years later a friend you all know as 'A Sprite' informed me of this community as well as the power of the 2600. When I learned how hard it was to program games for Atari 2600 and with decent graphics my appreciation stepped up yet another level, and I looked at games in a whole other way, constantly shocked by the graphics this system could produce. Star Wars Arcade (think that's what it was called) was probably one of the most impressive in my eyes. So why do I love the 2600? It's probably my favorite pound-for-pound system. Fun games that I can appreciate so much better now that I know the work that got put into them. Why do you?
  6. Nobody mentioned the Crash Bandicoot games? And how about Rayman while I'm at it...
  7. I'm interested in making some kind of games. Don't really have any ideas just yet, but I want to get myself started and learn how to develop for this system. Where should I start? Please note I have some programming experience (for Java, anyway.).
  8. I just noticed you said Mario Bros??? What was wrong with that port? I thought it was done damn well. Pac man and DK aren't perfect but Mario Bros? I dis agree with you on that one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liZ-yuCzyTc
  9. I've noticed, that well, there are a LOT of crappy ports for the 2600. A couple I've noticed are Pac-Man, Mario Bros., and Donkey Kong. Anyone know of any other games like these could be better? Better yet, is anyone up to the challenge of programming a remake?
  10. That was ****ing cold. I thought it was amusing. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
