  1. Yeah, 28 MHz crystal needed. Readout "instability" is probably also result of this.
  2. I really don't remember. I'm not even sure if something has degraded in the newer cores - something stinks here. The plan is to refactor FX/GTIA from scratch - GTIA first, focusing on emulation quality. But there are waves of retro hardware coming - not only Atari - I have MSX and ZX to build and so on... If anyone is still interested in new VBXE cores, tell me about it from time to time - just for motivation
  3. You can't automatically detect and forsee everything. Reality always wins easily. Do not even try Better have a few "jumpers" just in case.
  4. You're right, but my proposal was to implement solution which frees U1MB from this burden. Of course this is up to you To be honest I don't remember details about this old core nor see any sense in implementing its recognition.
  5. Are you sure that old VGA core (the cause of a problem here) is detectable by U1MB? In fact cores and VBXE FPGA interface hardware are completely independent from each other...
  6. For me it seems that U1MB in your machine is a master of your VBXE As @flashjazzcat pointed out... This core based detection should be only optional in my opinion. Maybe VBXE presence: ON/OFF/Automatic (core based) and separately VBXE base: D6/D7 for presence ON/Automatic.
  7. Forget about "happy compilation" FC.COM - throw it away, delete it. The most recent version is 1.17 from package dated 20230910 and it should work for both D6xx and D7xx installations.
  8. Do you mean - FC/DCFG from package above still fails or that one from Tebe's post?
  9. This is my fault - FC.COM included there was a "debug version" or "happy compilation" (not very functional) by mistake. And is circulating around since then. The most current package is this: vbxe_package_20230910.zip
  10. Do not have NTSC machine with VBXE... I'm interested too.
  11. VBXE was developed using only PAL machine. Quite a late discovery indeed... Anyways, I will be rewritting FX/GTIA core probably from the scratch. Someday. Maybe.
  12. Unfortunately VBXE Flasher FC.COM in previously published package was in wrong (debug / test) version. This wrong version displays "happy compilation" message at startup and is not functional - hence problems experienced by some of you while trying to flash new cores. Proper version is included in attached package. Nothing else changed. vbxe_package_20230910.zip
  13. I'm using retrotink 5x with VBXE 1.1 ... since yesterday to be honest. No problem at all, but I don't remember what I have connected as csync ... probably digital 5V CSYNC from 4050 through resistor in series, but i would have to check.
  14. My atari skills are a bit rusty at least, but maybe I will ask someone to prepare a convinient atr image with autobooting FC.COM and all current PAL / NTSC cores.
  15. Because nobody ever bothered to ask me directly? It seems, you all prefer years long discussions, I was not aware of.
