  1. This is incorrect. The XEGS did launch in Europe (especially in the UK, France, Germany and Benelux). I own several SECAM XEGS and a few PAL XEGS. It did sell in stores and in special catalogs. In parallel, the SECAM 130XE was still available in France for a reduced price until the early 1990s (that's when I bought mine). After that, mostly Eastern Europe was still getting fresh units from ATARI Corp. until 1992.
  2. @www.atarimania.com Now I so need this!!!!! Okay... I will investigate.... Merci beaucoup @www.atarimania.com!!!! See you in PARIS!!!
  3. This is an AMAZING find!! Thank you @cx2k and @www.atarimania.com! The interview was an outstanding read as well. I really feel for the author tbh.
  4. STAR RAIDERS II (XEGS Cartridge Release) always worked on stock PAL 600XL (16Ko).
  5. Thanks so much @cx2k for the amazing find and thank you @www.atarimania.com / @Atarigrub for the archival effort. Considering how HSW (Howard Scott Warshaw) was close to Jérôme Domurat, it would be great to let him know that these early efforts from Jérôme have been documented / preserved. HSW is on Linkedin and facebook.
  6. @Allan - That one is a marvel to behold. I think you actually did beat me to it on Ebay! ;D Thank you for scanning it and for everything you do for the community Allan.
  7. Well, ATARI GAMES (as Midway Games West Inc.) closed in February 2003 with its assets eventually going full circle and landing at Warner Bros. in 2009. For many, ATARI GAMES was the true ATARI heir of ATARI Inc. as some of its final employees predated the 1984 split. 8. Despite all the "good intentions", this does not inspire confidence. The emulation aspect of the machine is not covered, let alone the fact that some classic carts from the era won't play. It's very "general" (this is the Mirror Gaming YT channel after all - the demographics would allow for such discussion). It would actually have been great of him to say "this is the 2600 we all remember but built with modern components, this is not a straight reproduction (1), this will last for a very long time, superb investment to replay your classic carts (2), even the controllers are built to last, pre-order now to be entitled to the intro pricing (3), the 7800 emulation layer will give you access to the 7800 gaming library with more advanced graphics, more sophisticated titles than the 2600 library (4), etc." (1) Technology / chipset wise - not discussing the size change which is addressed in the video. (2) Despite the compatibility issues. (3) Nothing indicates that the $129.99 pricing will maintain itself after release. Hopefully, it will. (4) It's nice of him to mention this device as a "7800 dressed into a 2600" ("it has the functionality of a 7800") but he completely ignores the superiority of the 7800 hardware vs. the 2600. Also, no sight of a single 7800 screenshot in the promo material so far (unless I missed it). For the casual customer, this actually would go a long way. For us who have been following the 2600+ since its announcement, it's a different story. Note: We NEED the Stella situation resolved. I still see no mention of Stella on the 2600+ product page.
  9. @pjedavison "That year it took over the assets of the well-regarded but financially troubled Synapse Software. Although intending to keep it running as a business, they were unable to make money from Synapse's products, and closed it down after a year.[13]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broderbund Then acquired by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SoftKey Then acquired by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mattel_Interactive Then "The Learning Company itself was acquired by Riverdeep Interactive Learning Limited in September 2001 and later acquired all of Brøderbund in August 2002. " River Deep redirects to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houghton_Mifflin_Harcourt_Learning_Technology
  10. @mytek I actually do have an iPad3 here (the last one with the 30-pin connector) with iOS9 on it. I remember seeing this item on sale in a fancy Venice store a decade ago (that type of licensing "out" was typical during the ATARI S.A. "Chesnais" era). I will actually get one off Ebay and see if the software is still available / running as of 2023. As for hacking one into a true ATARI solution, you have my interest. I'd love to see what you do with it and get inspired by it!
  11. @www.atarimania.com - We actually never got Shanghai II on the A8. Not sure how different is II compared to I but I do agree, a slight change of title ("Shanghai+", "Shanghai 2023", etc.) would help distinguish @MrFish's astounding efforts from the classic Peter Sabath port.
  12. @www.atarimania.com Frank Cohen is one of my heroes. There's ambiance to spare in his games: super quirky and always combined with a great sense of humor. My sister and I literally digged Ghost Chaser back in 86/87 (thanks to this compilation). I can't stop thinking of his M*A*S*H* being the opposite example of the 2600 -> A8 conversion of Pitfall II. In the case of Pitfall II, Mike Lorenzen took the 2600 code, ported it to the 800 and then added the extra level not seen elsewhere (5200 excepted but correct me if I'm wrong). For M*A*S*H*, Frank Cohen was doing the opposite: code a proto on the 800 and then port it onto the 2600. There must be other examples which took place during that era (82-85). Probably not at ATARI Inc. but among third parties.
  13. @Allan - Thank you so much for posting and for your extended archival output which is nothing short of tremendous. We had the same type of user group / newsletter in France at the time (Club Cénacle) and we're still short of some of the related back issues (AtariMania has a few and in a very scattered fashion).
  14. @Mq. Count me in for one standard edition with shipping to Los Angeles, CA. I will DM you for payment details. Thank you.
  15. Hello everyone, I only found one mention of this tape deck in the following thread: I have one here with both the Atari and Commodore adapters. I dropped 4 AA in it and both Rewind + Fast Forward are working fine. Play doesn't move even when I use it with an ATARI (Option + Start then press a key - tried with SPY HUNTER - works perfect in XC12 but Compu-Mate doesn't move). If someone wants it to take a closer look, please send me a DM. It's free as long as shipping is paid for. Thank you! (Pictures + Video attached below) IMG_8694-H.mp4
