  1. I think the ball is still rolling-- Retro was going to snail mail the scans he had to a couple folks I believe, and when they got them, converted or cleaned em up, I'm hoping to hear from them to get em hosted at mycolecovision.com. I'm going to guess colecovision.dk will have them as well. But sit tight, and I'm sure this thread will light up again soon as things are rolling at a noticeable speed. In the mean time, any particular manual you are looking for? I've got the .txt varieties for most of the games I can share. Also, I throw this out to Syphor, Ikrananka and the others... should we establish a scan resolution to be the standard? like 300DPI or something higher? Or is lower OK for this project? I believe 300DPI is the printable minimum standard, but 72dpi is the on-line viewable standard, so you can save a ton of space, but they don't print out very well is my experience. Input? Murph Seems reasonable to me, though for those with slower connections - like me - I'd still offer the lower, display-only files... I personally have been scanning at 600DPI, but 300 is fine for a standard if it's okay with others.I'm looking forward to seeing all the manual scans, myself.
  2. I must say, very, very nice find! I've got a gray Zapper myself, but it was all by itself, no box or anything. Funnily enough, I always thought the Zapper was one of the better-feeling lightguns to use, with the Sega Stunner being right up with it. (Go figure) 'Course, the Stunner is rather... ugly.. due to the pure orange casing, but what the hey. I understand where the laws are coming from, but...
  3. I'll pick up games for a system I plan to get in the future - but I'm not likely at all to do so for a machine I don't. It does depend on the price to a certain extent - the trade aspect - but for the most part, I'll likely pass it over. I have a CD-I and JagCD game (one each) because of that, and I still don't have the hardware to run them, sadly. I'll likely end up with it some time or other, so I'm not too bothered about it.
  4. Funny thing is, this was one of my most-played games for the system from when I got it, and later it was a common, if off and on, game to play. Although stuff like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Mariokart get pulled out more often these days, I still go through it from time to time. It amused me that you could get enough stars (70) to beat the thing before going up to the second level. (Or maybe you still needed one or two from there, I forget suddenly.) Sunshine is better, truly, but 64's a game that I enjoyed when it came out and still do. I'd say it needs to be part of anyone's library for the machine (if you like 3D platformers) but that's a personal thing. Regarding the control issues, I never had any, really.. well, aside when first learning how to use the machine. For the not-directly-linear thing... well, I enjoy Morrowind, so, I guess that doesn't bother me all that much.
  5. I and my friends still pull all of those out for multiplayer gaming. I think that says we all agree with you! (Of course, PD really sucks on the framerate when everyone gets into a big fistfight)
  6. that has got to be the first time I've seen a gaming post open like that Hah. So she insisted on having her own Dreamcast and the ability to use it on her computer monitor. What more can I say?
  7. My mother uses a round orange one labeled "Madness Gameware" or something like on hers, has S-Vid, Component, VGA outputs.. Seems to work excellently. I've never had a chance to grab an official VGA box to actually compare.
  8. PM sent. I don't know why, but I haven't received a PM? I've been busy the past couple of days, but there's nothing in the inbox.
  9. I'd not directly seen a free PDF conversion application (granted, I haven't needed/cared to look much) that can directly create those image-only PDFs. For the few times I've needed to make one, OpenOffice's generator works fine, and I own a copy of Distiller 5. (It came with Pagemaker, for what that's worth) I barely use either, though, and I never did use Distiller beyond a print device. Hah. I'm willing to mail a couple of DVDR copies of the original 600DPI scans... Ikrananka, didn't you say earlier you had your own copies of the magazines? Not that I mind sending a copy that way, but it would be nice to see multiple scan sources whether or not I do. xD In any case, I've never mailed anything across country borders, so that'll be interesting. I'd set up a torrent, but since I'm on dialup, that isn't really a good idea for something of this size. Hmm. Ikrananka, Retroillucid, if you're interested PM me on that and we'll work something out?
  10. Damn. I want to see these things uploaded somewhere! xD I don't really have anything constructive to add to this at the moment, unfortunately. Although.... They're a lot bigger and I'm not sure I want to scan them at the moment, but I'll keep it in mind if people show interest... I have Family Computing June '84 - October '85, as well as a single Compute!'s Gazette (#4) in poor shape as well as some issues of Commodore Power Play. It looks like most of what I have in ColecoVision is being done already here, just needs to get on the web. xD (Though I'd be happy to provide alternate scans of what I have.) I know this all started on the ColecoVision, but hey, if we're on a scanning kick and this can be archived... that's a good thing, right?
  11. Murph: I quite agree. The cover of issue #1 in my case, for one, and there are some markings in the Adam areas of issue #2. It's readable no problem, but far from 'perfect'. The CBR/CBZ format... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_Book_Archive_file .. it's little more than the images stuffed into a renamed RAR (or ZIP for CBZ) file. Easy to extract (obviously) and extremely convenient with reader software that handles them directly. Retroillucid: Nice list! I don't know how many others you have since you say more coming, but the manuals I've got that you didn't list are... (not in any real order) Turbo Super Action Baseball Subroc Zaxxon Slither Pepper II Time Pilot Omega Race Miner 2049er (A tad basic, might not be worth it) Jumpman Junior Ken Uston Blackjack/Poker Carnival Also, system/addon manuals: ColecoVision Super Action Controller Set Expansion Module #2 Roller Controller Extra: Color tuning instructions sheet Colecovision library/catalog booklet Parker Bros. Video Games catalog booklet. (Lists more than just stuff for Coleco) ...If I accidentally listed something you did, oops. Edit: Added Ken Uston and Carnival.
  12. That might work. I don't store the original scans in JPG - I prefer PNG because it's lossless. This also means that most of them are 50-67mb. The reduced versions I uploaded were saved at 85% - which is good IMHO for viewing, even if it's not all that great for re-editing. (I'm using GIMP, by the way.) I'll think about it - I won't have the time to do much for the next couple of days anyhow. Retroillucid: Excellent, when/where will these be hosted so we can all see? And is there a list of which manuals you have scanned?
  13. Very impressive job, I must say! (I did get the PM, but since you posted a similar message here, I thought I might as well post in the main thread) Feel free to work on the images I've uploaded at leisure, I certainly don't mind. I'd offer the original scans (at 600DPI) for you to work on, but being stuck on dialup means I ain't getting them to you - or anyone else - via the net. It'd have to be physically mailed on a DVD-R. (All files total at only a little less than 4.5gb) Since you mentioned it in the PM, I also prefer CBR/CBZ over PDF for the ease of portability. However, that varies for different people. Anyhow, like I said earlier in the thread, feel free to do pretty much what you like to these. It'd be nice to be credited as the original scan source, but not required - my big thing is making these available at all. As it turns out, I found I have a few other things that might end up being scanned later. We'll see. Side thought - does anyone have full Colecovision manual scans up? A quick search found someone who had them in TXT format, but it's not quite the same.
  14. Not at all. As I posted above the more available the scans are the happier I am with it, considering they didn't seem to be around at all before.
  15. Naw, I don't think you're the only one. I enjoy playing them in the original format, but I have to admit, when given the choice (read: emulator, which the GCN editions of those really are) I do rather prefer the higher resolution, even if the actual models and textures aren't improved.
