Hi Guys, it's pretty nice discussion with quite a lot of new versions, but that causes a bit of confusion ;)


Which is the current/latest/best/stable one, not some kind of experiment attached to the subsequent posts?

That said, does the author edit 1st post, so the attached files are always the ones to have (for PAL, NTSC machine)?

Besides, does "black" mean just black background of title screen or what? ;)

I really hope it gets done by Pavros one day (he did great job with IK EE and has been doing wonderful things with IK+), but on the other hand, when you realize IK+ port project was started back in 2001... :roll:

I for one am pretty sure the Guys will deliver full version they promised, if it started 3 months ago, there's no reason for doubt of further optimization and improvements.

The name of the group is New Generation, maybe Emkay isn't new enough generation-wise to believe it's possible to have game like that on 8-bit Atari? ;-)

I was focusing on making the game work on 64KB machines, so I didn't consider making 128KB version. Actually, almost everything fitted in 64KB apart from game load/save from C64 which I had to remove due to lack of RAM.


I'll consider making a version for 128KB machines. At one point I implemented faster integer division based on https://www.microsof...teger-division/, but I had to remove it as it is based on multiplying by inverse and it required a table with inverse numbers. I didn't have memory for this table.


If possible and you have time for that, it would be great to have both load/save and further optimization for 128+ KB ATARIs :-)

That's a really nice Arkanoid-clone, would be great to hear about some progress regarding Project-M, though ;)

On my behalf I did my best last weekend presenting P-M 2.0 to fellow C64 and Amiga users during Decrunch 2048 party.

And guess what, they were stunned :grin:

I think we shouldn't discuss if or not SCR should be xBios based as it's already done, authors opted to choose it, fine.

From my understanding, the trouble is that current ATR is using older version of xBios, while XXL recently admitted he solved the problems in the latest one.

xxl tried to fix that problem and he really was VERY supportive with this issue. Several different xBIOS builds were used in the development but there were too many problems reported by out betatesters (especially on real HW).

There NEVER was any intention to disable or block SCR from booting on HDD or any other device. I was pretty surprised that HDD users had troubles with it and I'm sorry for this. It seems that xBIOS is not friendly with these modern expansions but there is nothing I could do with it.

If that's the case and newer xBios that allows at least higher SIO speeds is available, why couldn't new ATR be prepared by involved parties to improve things, please?

The question is should really current software bring it down to 1984 level (Seven Cities of Gold), when neither fast I/O devices nor ultraspeed SIO were as popular as nowadays?

It should rather provide wider variety of devices/speeds to run with, purists can still use 1x SIO, but let's have a choice at least?!

Accordring to xxl's words in the thread on Atari OnLine forum ( http://atarionline.p...&page=2#Item_32),

there's new version of xBios that would potentially allow working with HDDs and SIO speed higher than 1x SIO.

Too bad it seems neither Fandal nor xxl are interested in preparing new build of Stunt Car Racer providing these theoretical goods :(

Didn't read the latest posts too carefully, but is it about doubting A8 being able to handle 3D scenes?

Sorry, but why do people claim TD is bad? For me Test Drive I and mostly II were very good Amiga games. As for C64, well... Probably 8-bit Atari could cope better with it.
