  1. Exidy was heeuva a lot smaller arcade manufacturer than what Atari was churning out #'s wise. That's an unfair comparison if you're going that route.
  2. This was my last, great console generation... probably add pc gaming too. Did eventually get a PS1 but did not have the gaming fervor as I used to. By this point in the mid '90s, I really got bit by the retro bug. It's between the Genesis and Super Nintendo... while the latter to me had the better back catalog; I have to go with the Genesis. I love that '89 - '91 games' library output combined with tons of nostalgia for that era.
  3. Referring to Asteroids Deluxe? 82, that's definitely all the feature of Deluxe. Both had vector monitors, Deluxe also uses a cool blacklight effect for the monitor bezel. I found Deluxe harder with the pesky satelites who are like hawks in this game. Deluxe also replaces Hyperspace with shield - wish the former used shield instead. I still prefer the OG while Deluxe does have the better cab. Don't' think it's part of the Asteroids canon... I would take Space Duel over both. Blasteroids whic was the third of the series never did anything for me.
  4. As much as I love the port for the 2600, the arcade is a beast on it's own. The deep bass omitting through the speakers from the constant bump, bump or the shots decimating "Asteroids". Play that game in the dark, watch the dayglo vector graphics pop. Like I said I do love the Atari port, but those things I mentioned just can't be replicated...
  5. Had to run to the storage shed today so I decided to hit up some of the totes I had my gaming mags stored. Quick trip so I only grabbed a few. One I picked was Diehard Gamefan from Dec. of '93. It was promoting the new system from Atari called the 'Jaguar'. I might've stated this before on this thread, but I never really bought into any of these reviews of any of these magazines when I made game purchases. When game rentals became more ubiquitous I just rented everything under the sun if it sparked my interest... if it was good - probably would've just purchased it. I mostly used these magazines as a gateway for what's coming down the pipeline and screenshots if applicable. That being said, reading these reviews in hindsight are funny. That did a big review on Sega's Eternal Champions where they weren't too kind on the game for the most part. And after renting that one bitd, they had a valid stance. My biggest gripes with this magazine is the colored text they used blends in with the particular color of the background shot. Tried reading a review on Mega Man X... just painful to the eyes. Now that I'm older reading with these older eyes I also finding it too busy. Most pages are just crammed with some screenshot or something arbitrary. Probably would've thought that was awesome 30 years ago... not much now. Chuckled when I found the ad for the Diehard Game store. I almost imported Sunsoft's Batman for the Sega Genesis when that was first announced. I believe it was around $90 at the time. I love that game and what an incredible Kodaka score but gameplay-wise - it's too easy even on hardest difficulty. Thought that was a funny trigger moment.
  6. I'm surprised no one ever snagged the license to this. I practically saw this game in the majority of the arcades around this era.
  7. I was watching a Youtube video recently of Smurfs for the Colecovision. The player had a pretty good run too. I noticed periodically when he jumped over the shrubbery, the game would make the successful jump jingle... but not award points. Anybody else see this? I agree on Tempest's assessment as well...Be nice if there was a graphic showing the castle itself or entrance. I guess the "spider room" is an indicator you are in the castle. Even more confusing in the 2600 version, you go in the "spider room" but jump back to the exterior landscape. Love this game and it's primitiveness. Just wish we got more perils in the Castle itself.
  8. I have three of the earlier Discovision titles with the gray jackets. Two of out of the three are suffering from laserrot. Sucks because one of them is Battlestar Galactica. I also have a Dragon's Lair arcade disc that has a snowy effect on the screen - I was told that's early signs of rot. I've been unloading a bunch of DVD's lately to thin the media collection. Upon viewings so far, encountered over a dozen so far that simply will not play on two different players. Hundreds more to go but not a good start. The "flipper" discs seem to be the worst.
  9. I must say Bill, I adore that Temple of Doom shirt! Where did you find that? I saw in the other thread on KLOV... you have a Empire Strikes Back one as well. I seem to recall there was one for Return of the Jedi too??? Like others also stated, the Star Rider and the Atarians are awesome. Speaking of the latter, I watched Tron a few months ago and noticed Flynn also had a Atarians poster by the stairs leading to his loft - very cool!
  10. I played Revenge not too long ago. It might be the hardest Shinobi game on the system; I thought gameplay difficulty overall, it wasn't bad. The last stage did take me a few tries...
  11. I never had this particular solution sheet, I had a certain Joystik magazine that gave solution tips. Funny how this solution sheet still promotes using the grenade in the entrance room instead of the medallion at the marketplace. Wish this sheet did touch on the scoring aspect.
  12. I'll never forget seeing the advertisement of the first one with the different cache of weapons. I didn't mind the first one albeit there's a bit of a learning curve. Sorta pissed the boss of the game was not was I expecting according to the box art. I recall the different security cards to different doors seemed tedious back then not sure I would have the patience now. Snake's Revenge I found to be a better game all in all. It does have the security card trope from the first and the side scroll level are blah, but the music in the sequel is incredible - one of Konami's best from the NES.
  13. I'm in awe of that boxed Mattel Ski. I remember getting that in the early '80s at a flea market. Over the years I wanted to get another one (eventually got a loose one). Fast forward to recent years looking for a boxed one on Ebay I about pissed myself. I don't know if it's a rarity thing; I believe the last boxed copy went for over 4 bills on Ebay.
  14. These pics are too cool. Pretty interesting this particular Aladdin's Castle was rocking still some of the classics. I spy Discs of Tron, Pacland in a Tapper cab, Crossbow sans crossbow, Galaga, Elevator Action, Sinistar and a Bally 6 pack cab to name a few. Circa this era, my local Aladdin's pretty much switched to all Jamma games and was devoid of the classics.
