  1. Pause, Select, Reset are all fine as they are right on the top of the console, clearly labeled, and cannot be missed. Of course the more that can be done via menus and controller only - "coach compliant" - the better more convenient. Between their location and association with 2600 titles, for 7800 games, some don't even realize the Difficulty Switches exist or could have an impact.
  2. Regarding a cleaner or cleaning, perhaps a partnership with 1UPcard, considering what is already available for the Atari 2600 console and cartridges. A 7800 console cleaner adding the additional pins found on it and under the 2600+ respectively would be nice to see come to fruition. Personally though, I'm more of a Isopropyl Alcohol and cotton swab guy.
  3. The Solitaire card game looks real good. My humble two cents is to avoid incorporating Difficult Switch utilization. They were a necessity back in the day when 2K and 4K size carts were standard for the 2600, and every byte needed to be conserved. Under the 7800, especially with 48K available before any bankswitching, there is often enough space to incorporate an onscreen menu option instead. Difficulty Switches are often forgotten about or overlooked by players, providing a source of confusion or/and frustration.
  4. Negative. The word "You" can be used in a singular or plural context and does not require any specific word following it to denote such. Specifically in this scenario, it serves as a second-person plural pronoun. Grammatically, the sentence is correct and proper English. *Misery Dragon laughing a bit more*

That was the limitation. The 2600+ system, leveraging the available experimental firmware, features emulation comparable to JS7800, since the devs that worked on that emulator have also improved 2600+ emulation of the 7800 console.
  6. A humble recommendation is having the First button mapped to Run & Shoot, and the Second button mapped to Jump. Many people find that works best. It is also the same button configuration scheme as Super Mario Bros. The Difficulty Switch configuration for the above is the following on the 7800 console: Below shows the above configuration along with all other possible configurations: (Click on the image to see full size)
  7. Understood, you're not a beginner, but trying to cover what could be possibly causing the phenomenon being experience, as other PAL users have played through the game without issue. The typical issue when someone is having control related problems is not realizing the impact of the Difficulty Switches and/or understanding when the changed switch position actually impacts the game. As you have made clear though, that is not the issue for you. Depending what console (region) is being leveraged, ensure the appropriate ROM is utilized. NTSC and PAL have different dump files available for their respective regions: NTSC:Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest (NTSC) (20151220) (D44622B3).a78 PAL:Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest (PAL) (20151220) (CFA247F5).a78
  8. From the left edge of the tree stump Bentley is on, hold down the button assigned to run, move to the right, and press the button assigned to jump. If the jump cannot be made, Bentley is not running. There is a huge difference between Bentley's walking speed and running speed. There are many more wider and difficult jumps that are easily performed in the game, as long as the run button is held down while having a running start before the jump. As mentioned earlier, check Difficulty Switches. Difficulty Switches are not hot swappable under Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest. Changing Difficulty Switches in the middle of the round will not yield any immediate change to the controls. After changing a Difficulty Switch position the round needs to be reset, a new round started, or a life lost, to experience the change of controls taking effect.
  9. The Arcade control experience was like this for me: A button could be added in-between and slightly below the two sets of buttons to provide Asteroids (Deluxe) compatibility as well.
  10. Under 7800.ini, try changing the video from bgfx to auto: Let it decide what works best for your current video driver and configuration. Though some of the (CRT) video effects may be unavailable.
  11. For any who may not frequent it, @RevEng has posted a Phoenix proof of concept under the 7800 Programming forum. The POC shows so much promise to be an incredible port. Hopefully, he will be able to find the resources and motivation to turn it into something more.
  12. *THIS* is my favorite golden age Arcade shooter. Gorf and Satan's Hollow fight for number 2. Number 1 spot will always go to Phoenix. The proof of concept is wonderful. Love the detailed scroll and enemies look fantastic; as does the player ship. Font looks great! *Sending positive motivational vibes for this to be turned into a full blown game*
  13. Different jump instructions cannot be caused or created by Bit Rot. Would love to know what the differences entail exactly, the impact to the game(play) specifically. It seems to play identical and nothing stood out to me. Regardless, at this juncture, I'm comfortable with it being an official alternate dump, unless feedback is provided to the contrary, proving otherwise.
  14. Looking forward to the "Afterward" and acquiring a copy. Until then, enjoy the expos and convention @swlovinist!
