  1. The angle on the bow was usually called out by the Captain from periscope or TBT observations. This of course is a difficult estimation and took a lot of practice in order to have a properly trained eye. Clear The Bridge by Rear Admiral Richard O'Kane is a pretty good book recounting his experiences on the USS Tang. If you couldn't guess, I loved this game as well.
  2. I have to admit, I am one of the DOS XL users. It was my first DOS, got it with my Indus GT. I still like it, and I find it to be somewhat more compatible than other more advanced DOS's. I really like the new versions of SpartaDOS X (thoroughly impressed and awed by what those guys are doing with it), but, I have trouble getting the Atari Macro Assembler and its editor to work correctly with it. I also used to use AMAC when I was younger, and feel nostalgic for both it and DOS XL.
  3. I seem to remember playing Realm of Impossibility with two players. Both had to reach the "other" side to move on to the next screen. Lots of fun.
  4. I don't think it is merely the velocity of the winds so much as it is the fact that the winds are circular in nature along with a vertical componnent. Having rapidly changing stresses on the materials along with impact from debris causes the lion share of the damage. This is just a guess though..... I live in West Kentucky, and we did not get hit too bad here. My house lost a few shingle and there are quite a few others in my area that are in the same boat. The pictures and stories on the news have been awful.
  5. I seem to remember that Visicalc can use Axlon memory expansions. I know there were others. In any case, having the Axlon mode just makes this upgrade even better and it looks like Candle is doing another masterful job here. To Candle, as others have said, thank you for all of your efforts.
  6. As for the SQL ponunciation, it all depends on where and when you learned it. Some Oracle books from the nineties gave the suggested pronunciation as sequel, and not S-Q-L. I have heard it both ways by many technical types. I have been a DBA for over ten years and use both. Just depends on my mood. Regarding the original question, those here in the states who have been in the military are probably more likely to say six five zero two or six five oh two. They will instinctively avoid sixty.
  7. I loved this game as a kid. I remember waiting 20 to 30 minutes for it to load from tape so I could play. Back then I thought the wait was worth it. Can't imagine having to wait that long for a program to load now. I whine if a program takes more than 10 or 15 seconds.....
  8. I am verry happy to report that mine came in today. Now I just have to work up the courage to attempt the install......
  9. For me, the game I would change is Blue Max. Just a minor one. I always hated it when a plane at the same altitude as me came up from behind and hit me. You had next to no chance to evade before the game was over.... Many a near perfect game ended this way. Otherwise, I loved it. Ken
  10. 1 800 3 or 4 800XLs 1 1200XL 1 130XE 3 Indus GTs 5 1050s 1 XF I always want more, but I am running out of space to hold them... Freshy
  11. This new console would need as you say a "pile of new games". Unfortunately, there is no such thing. Nor has there been for some time. BTW, has anyone noticed: A New Version of Star Raiders I think there is also a Centipede, and I thought I saw Tempest in the market on xbox live. Is this a travesty, or do you think it will be a fantastic way to bring younger people into the Atari fold? It is hard to tell from the images on the website exactly what the game will be like. Unfortunately, given my experiences with most modern games (and consoles), I don't hold out much hope. Freshy
  12. I use an S-Video cable I got off E-Bay.
