  1. I would love to get a PVM. I have looked off and on for several years but haven't found anything yet. I am glad to hear the TOM rev2 works well for you. I'm not sure why no online shop seems to carry them, so I hopped on Ebay and ordered one. Hopefully it will arrive in a few weeks. My old Atari mouse doesn't work very well. I opened it up and cleaned it, but I think it needs a spot of grease on the axle or something. As for the VGA adapter... I'm going to go with the ST2VGA Black once they are back in stock. I don't use very many hi res programs, so manually switching it back and fourth shouldn't be a big deal. Although I do like how the Ubeswitch automatically switches, but I can always upgrade again if need be. I do have a few old multisync monitors that can handle the signal so I should be good there. Thanks for the help!
  2. I posted this to Atari-forum earlier today. Thought i would ask around here as well... I am wanting to upgrade my 1040 STE. I have been researching the past few days, but items are scattered between different stores and message boards. It's tough to find current and relevant info and what options are obsolete. I was hoping you all could help me out. This will be an ongoing process, but wanted to start with a VGA adapter and a USB mouse adapter. VGA Adapters - GBS 8220 board (Amazon) Looks like an older option and DIY. - Best ST multisync cable (best-electronics-ca) Looks like an older, bulkier option. - ST2VGA Black (centuriontech) I like this one! - Ubeswitch mk6 v1.3 (ataristsales) I like this one as well! I have the monochrome Atari ST monitor and it looks so crip and clear. Unfortunately my color options (Med and Low) are using RF on an old CRT and the image is a bit blurry. It's also kind of a hassle and the TV is taking up much needed space. Of all the options I have found, I am leaning towards the ST2VGA Black or the Ubeswitch. They look, for the most part, based on a similar design and have a small footprint. They both work with all 3 modes and have a 3.5 mm jack. I have a monitor that will handle the 15kHz signal so that should not be an issue. The ST2VGA is a bit cheaper then the Ubeswitch. Does anyone have any suggestions between these two? Is there anything I missed or is there a better option that's out there somewhere? USB Wireless Mouse Adapters - RYS mk II (amigaonthelake) - Wireless USB mouse (Lotharek) - Tom Rev2 USB mouse (Ebay) All of these sound like they work well. Although I have seen some discussion about the DPI of the mouse and how it can be too fast. Does anyone have experience with these or have another adapter to suggest? Top
  3. Yeah! Count me in! It sounds VERY usefull and i'm looking for an excuss to up the "coolness factor" of my 1040 STe
  4. What is the Automation CD? Is it like a compilation that has lots of ST sowftware and games on it?
  5. Hmmm. I was afraid of this. Maybe the disk is corrupt? Thanks for the response.
  6. I know some games have problems running on the STE compared to a standerd ST. Is there a list somewhere that tells what games have problems\or won't run on a STE? More impotantly however, I bought the Temple of Apshai Trilogy off a guy on Ebay and just recieved it. It boots up to the title screen and plays the music and then goes to a blank white screen with the menu bar at the top of the screen where you can create a character and buy items and armor from the innkeeper. After I create a character it wont let me buy items from the innkeeper and it wont let me enter the game. Am I doing something wrong or is this as far as the game will work on an STE? ANY help on this would be greatly appriciated.
  7. I have to hand it to you Retrogeek! This looks really nice. Although I have dreams of one day playing a Zelda style Action RPG on my ST, im sure its much easier to program a turn based RPG than an action RPG. Besides, you have to start somewhere. That dungeon screenshot reminds me of EPYX's Temple of Aphsai games. I loved that series as a kid. I also like the battle screen. It really reminds me of Sega's Shining Force games on the genesis. Which ever route you decide to go with the game, it looks like it will be a quality title. I have a suggestion however. If the game is going to be a dungeon romp, then I suggest having some of the items be randomly placed. Maybe some treasure chests have set items but others give random items. This way while the levels might be the same, each time I play there will be a bit of freshness. Regardless, i'm excited about this project! Keep up the good work.
  8. Wait a sec... Are you telling me that a PAL ST game should play fine on my NTSC ST computer? If so then this is incredible news!!! I always heard about video signals for PAL and NTSC game systems being different and playing a PAL game on an NTSC system (even if it has a region mod) wouldn't display properly unless you had a display that could handle a PAL signal and vice versa. Do the Atari computers not have the PAL/NTSC display problems that are common with so many game systems?
  9. Is there an Atari ST US release list for games. I can find lots of info across various sites about ST games but I cannot find any info on what games were released here and what games were released over seas. I REALLY want these games but I have a feeling that (As far as the ST goes) they were never released in the US. I know that they were released for the ST over seas however. Artura Future Wars Knights of the Sky BAT BAT II Koshan Conspiracy Epic Elite Bloodwych and many more. To many to list!!! I really want to buy some of these games, but I am afraid that I will buy them only to find out that they are PAL and an NTSC version was never released. I need a site or a list that can CONFIRM what ST games were released in the US.
  10. OK... Thanks for the info everyone. It sounds like I made the right decision. When I bought my Atari last year I purchased a 4 MB 1040 STe. So far it has ran every piece of ST software that I have tried. Regardless, I was looking at eventually upgrading to a Mega STe, TT, or Falcon. But I see no point in upgrading to one of those systems if they won't run most of my existing ST software. Again, thanks for the info.
  11. So let me see if I have this straight. Basically the STe and Mega STe can run ST software with very few problems, but can't run TT and Falcon 030 software. The TT and Falcon can both run software designed for the 030 systems, but have major compatibility problems running ST software. There might be a few exceptions here and ther but is this true, for the most part?
  12. I was wondering with what computer model did ST compatibility take a nosedive? The STe is almost completely backwards compatible with the ST, but I hear that the Falcon has many compatibility issues running ST software. What about the Mega STe or the TT 030? Do they have as high compatibility as the STe?
  13. I hear you, Retrogeek. Let me explain what I have observed from all of this. You see, we live in a society were we want and expect EVERYTHING to be free; We download our favorite songs on a P2P network for FREE, we download our favorite movies from IRC or Bittorrent sites for FREE, and by god software for a 20 year old Atari computer should be FREE. Even if its a new release! Its a great little Utopia we live in. Unfortunatley I'm not part of this group... I wish I were, it would certainly be easier on my wallet. See, I love music and movies and realize that it takes TIME and EFFORT to write, record, and film everything. And when I really like something I show my apriciation with money! As a sort of THANK YOU and a motivational boost in hopes that they will continue making products that appeal to me. And you know what? I feel the same way about the ST. If you take the time to produce something (Regardless of what it is) and I really like it, you can bet I will suppot that product with my hard earned cash.
  14. Ok... I am new to the ST scene, so pardon my ignorance. But can you actually use a SCSI Zip drive with a ST? I have a 1040 STE complete with an "ICD The Link" DMA to SCSI adapter and SCSI hard drive. I assumed that the hard drive was the only thing you could hook up to it. Can you hook up a SCSI Zip Drive? How about a SCSI CD-Rom? If so am I limited to certain models or speeds? Any info would be appriciated.
  15. If it was a "new" game that was released for the ST (or an old prototype that someone else found and finished), and the game interested me... I would certainly buy it. I wouldn't hesitate for a second. Now if the game was shipped to me in a bag with a few floppies, I dont believe i would spend much or anything on it. But if it came in a box with a full color manual and looked like you really poured you heart into the project... Then you can bet I will support it. There is a special feeling you get when playing a newly developed game for an old system that you love. A feeling that just can't be replicated on current PCs or next-gen systems. You can rest assured that I would show my appriciation with money. Like when the Super Fighter Team released Beggar Prince for the Sega Genesis 2 years ago, I didn't even think twice before plunking down the $50.00(I believe it was 50). I was so happy another RPG got an English translation and was avalible for my Genesis. Even if Beggar Prince had not been on the Genesis and instead had been released on floppy disk for the ST, I still would have payed the 50.00 because it looked very professianal and I knew that the people that made this happen really had a passion for what they do. I really appriciated what they did even though it wasen't even a new game... It was just an English translation. So in summary... If the game appeals to my taste and it looks well done... You can bet i'll buy a copy of it upon release.
