  1. Yes, but I don't really understand it fully, a visual aid would help. ?
  2. Thank you but no, I got the top and bottom cases apart, the problem is the motherboard is attached underneath to the bottom case by something I can't see so I'm afraid to try and rip the motherboard away.
  3. My tattoo says I need one! How do we order?
  4. I am ressurrecting this topic because this is precisely my issue. My series 1 Channel F would come up fine at first but over about a minute the picture would slowly degrade until it finally went black. I opened it up, hit the board with freeze spray, waited (this time took several minutes because it was cold) and when it started to go wonky I hit the fcm9101n chip with the spray and it went back to normal. My bother and I looked all over the board and nothing seems to be wrong with any of the soldering or anything, no obvious burnt out caps or whatnot. I have tried shielding all around the chip when spraying it so only the chip is getting the freeze spray. Fixes it every time. Dumb question, but that means I have to find another of those chips right? And the only way to do that would be to find a Channel F for parts? I'm pretty sure it would have to be the series 1 kind to work with mine. In addition...I'm not actually sure how to remove the motherboard completely from the aluminum bottom. There's something next to the controller ports holding it in place I'm afraid to force. If anybody knows how to get it apart I'd appreciate it. Obviously if I have to do any soldering I have to get to the underside. (We lifted it up as much as we could so we could see and again it looked fine.)
  5. I run a fansite for the game here. It amazes me that the game was made all by one dude.
  6. I still have nightmares about this game...my dad became obsessed both with beating it and after that, getting the highest score and seeing the initials (which he never did). We were scared of him and his temper enough without him bullying one of us to control his inventory during certain parts of the game. If you messed up, boy, you got it. Seriously, that theme song haunts me to this day... Naturally this was one of the carts I just HAD to buy when we got our Woody a few months ago, lol. I honestly believe I'll never play it though.
  7. While replacing my switches one of the momentary switches moved while I was soldering and while trying to remove it I broke it. I don't want to have to order $20 worth of stuff from Best just to get ONE switch. (Or pay ~$10 to someone on eBay.) Can anyone here with spare parts PLEASE sell me one? I would REALLY appreciate it - this is my brother's Atari. Thanks. edit: Got a couple. Thanks. Then I'll find out if I did any serious damage to the motherboard, lol...Still waiting for our a/v mod anyways.
  8. While replacing the power supply was surely a good idea (the wire going into the wallwart of the original was all loose and wiggly) the console is still crapping out video-wise randomly. The culprit appears to be a very loose power switch. I needed to replace the select switch anyways so I will be ordering some switches from Best come Tuesday or so. Reading back through this section of the forum a dozen+ pages yielded several threads on the very same problem, which was interesting reading. I also boned up on the a/v mod, which we will do when our kit arrives...which should be in another year or so. :/ Which makes me wonder: if someone else could basically replicate these kits, could they also make and sell them to help fill the need or would that be some kind of copyright infringement (which is never cool)?
  9. This is what I had read elsewhere, but the only 1MOhm resistor I could find is only 2w...is that too small? I want to make sure I'm prepared to drain capacitors if needed; I have some projects coming up.
  10. First of all thanks...Secondly, what exactly are these? What makes them different from regular SC files? If you explained I must not have understood. Are these for use with an unmodded SC?
  11. Well after all that it seems the whole problem was a bad power supply. Replaced the original Atari supply with a Radio Shack one and don't seem to be having a problem anymore. (So far, anyways.)
  12. Thank you; my brother says he didn't actually read the manual that far, lol. I went to Fry's today and picked up what's hopefully the right components.
  13. There's something wrong with the Atari 2600 we bought from 4Jays a month ago, and I figure it's too late to tell them about it and expect an exchange (that'd really be pushing their 30 day policy, anyways). So I was hoping someone here might have an idea of if this is fixable or not... Basically, after about three minutes of gameplay/being on, the picture craps out. It goes b/w and super grainy/wavy. This happens consistently with all carts, and no amount of jiggling cords/connections will fix it. Turning the unit off and then on is an instant fix but of course you lose the game you were playing. :/ We have an A/V kit on its way (SOMEday we'll get it I guess, it's been three months), and if installing that fixes the problem that would be great. But I wanted to ask now anyways in case it doesn't, hopefully some people will reply with an idea of what to look at when we crack the sucker open. Thanks.
  14. Did this get cleared up? Since my brother's Supercharger is not modded (and he won't let me mod it), I plan to remove all the "asterisked" tracks from the folders. So I just want to make sure I remove all the right ones from Disc 3, and that they are named right. Thanks.
