  1. Thanks AtariLeaf and Shawn. This actually was a "broken" console I picked up to salvage a TIA chip from, but it seemed like a waste to gut it rather than just fix the one silly port, since it's otherwise in excellent condition. If I find a deader one, I'll definitely salvage these parts off it. I can't seem to edit my post, so just adding some extra keywords for anyone Googling: The original Atari part number was FK100307 / CO19062, and the Digikey part I found is a replacement for that. Cheers.
  2. Hi all, I recently picked up an Atari 2600 (Darth Vader) with a broken controller port. One of the pins coming out the back of the port had snapped, and although you couldn't see it visually, a quick continuity check with a multimeter confirmed it. The only source for this part I could find mentioned on these forums was Best Electronics, but I've found another source that I wanted to share. The part I discovered is 5745001-3 by TE Connectivity, which can be purchased on Digikey and Mouser. I wasn't quite sure before I ordered it, but I soldered it in and it's a perfect fit. Digikey says the part is active, but the unit price is fairly high ($16 CAD, compared to around $2 for any common D-Sub connector), so I'm not sure if they're still being manufactured or what the deal is. Ordering from Digikey made way more sense for me in Canada than ordering from Best Electronics because the shipping is super cheap, overnight, and never has an issue with customs. Anyways, just throwing this out there in case someone else is looking for a replacement part! (Soldered in!)
  3. Good job Atari guys... I'm pretty sure they're for Atari 400/800 because those cartridges have 15 pins, and so do mine (give or take a few).... and most importantly: they fit in the system. I'll give em a shot if I can get my grubby little hands on the right RF switch... Thank you.
  4. Cool... thanks... Anyone else wanna give it a shot? (I love these forums... I'm sorry I ever left. )
  5. Hey, I was browsing my local Value Village (bling bling), and I ran across quite the cache of games.... The problem is, I have no idea what system they are for. I believe they are for the Atari 400/800, but I'm not sure... I have an Atari 400 sitting around, but I need a good RF switch (lost mine) and I'm afraid I might toast the unit if I try these carts... I bought 3 of the carts, here's a pic of one: As you can see, they aren't REALLY carts. They are just the boards and eeproms without covers. Some of them say "dome electronics 1983" on the bottom... Bootlegs right? Anyways, the total lot of games consisted of: Popeye Cent (short form?) MCMD (short form?) BLE (short form?) Pole Position Sinvader (?) Dig Dug Shoot Out Chess Quix (mis-labelled?) If anyone could tell me if any of these games are valuable/good, it would be great... Thanks
  6. Someone should set up a telnet BBS... I played Tradewars over Telnet a little while ago... just as addicting as it used to be.
  7. Classic Gaming - Game Vault Atari roms?
  8. Yep. Another question Tempest... Do you need a basic cartridge to play games with a disk drive. (1050?) I know that some (all?) tape games need a basic cartridge. Help! Thanks in advance.
  9. hmmm.... That's good to know.... The system works great. The little memo pad thing works perfectly. Thanks again!
  10. More thanks!!! I don't feel so bad about the commadore monitor anymore. I keep my eyes peel for a 1050 disk drive. I doubt I'd have much trouble getting one, in my area there is a huge place called "The Reuse Center" and it's full of old junk. Think of it as an organized flea market. I've picked up several 2600 related items from there, so it shouldn't be a problem! Thank you very much! Knowledgable people are hard to come by (except on this forum!) Thanks again!
  11. Cool... thanx... Yeah, the tape games were in original boxes. What can I hook the 400 up to? I used to have a commodore (sp?) monitor in my basement... but I think it got ditched some how. Oh well.... So is there anything I can do with just the base unit and a power supply? What happens when you just turn it on? P.S. Can it use 2600 joysticks?
  12. I just picked up an Atari 400 with a huge power supply... The thrift store had the 410 tape deck thingy too, but when I plugged it into the wall and pushed play, nothing happened. There were also 2 tape games there (which I did not buy because I didn't get the deck). I also suspect that there probably was a Basic cartridge hiding somewhere because I got a manual for that with the system (and the games need one). Could you give me some info on the 410?
  13. How Strong is a Cart? lol... this is a good read...
