Honestly, if I was to have walked into a store with both a VCS and o2 set up side by side on display in 1978, I would have went with the o2. The 2600 didn't hit its stride until later, and I prefer the o2 joysticks over the Atari's any day.

The Mega Man games are supposed to be notoriously difficult, but I never had any trouble with them. Many people claim that the NES version of Metal Gear is easy, but I never made it through the fourth or fifth screen.

Some consoles are known to develop problems sitting on carpet, but it's usually due to heat build-up instead of static discharge. The original Intellivision came with a warning flyer telling owners to not place the console on the carpet because it could fry the circuitboard, after numerous reports of overheating. It said to place a book or a board between the console or carpet so that heat could dissipate easier, and this is something I do to this day, whether it's a 360 or a 2600.

I have the same exact joystick, the Apple II version with the adapter. If there's any interest in it I may put it up in the marketplace since I don't have an AII anymore.

Contra III is almost impossible to beat without a cheat, I don't care who you are. I had a friend who beat it after like six months of trying, only to get to the end screen that said something like "Sure, you finished the game, but you did it on easy mode. Try a harder difficulty, pussy." He ripped the game out of his SNES and tossed it out of his window and into the street, where it shattered into a million tiny pieces. True story.

I beat it without the code way back in '88 or so. That was before I even knew there was a code. For the last 22 years I've played it with the code, just because I'm lazy. The Japanese version isn't that much harder than the US from what I remember. Then again, I never played it without the code.
