  1. There's something about this console that I just LOVE. Games...sure. But it's more than that. Ditto.
  2. Gamertag: W0lfrider79, with a zero for the "O"
  3. People always say that it's ugly, but I don't see it: In 1991, I thought it was cooler looking than the NES and I still feel that way. Of course, you could say I'm a little biased, the SNES is my all-time favorite console. But the colors are nice. The Power/Reset switches and the buttons on the controller match well and the grey color is really nice. Sit this thing down next to an Atari 5200 or especially the poor good-looking Genesis with all that crap shoved into it, the 32x and the CD and tell me it's still unappealing. I've seen better-looking consoles but it's still fine. In fact, I like it's look more than the Japanese/European version. Much more. Oh and the SNES cartridges we had in the U.S. were way, way better. END LABELS. Every cart-based console should have them, but several don't.
  4. I loves me that 2600 joystick too. A whole bunch. I am not one of those that uses a Sega Genesis controller with my 2600, hell no, joystick all the way. But for the NES, the stock controller for me covers most of bases. I guess if you dislike the NES pad that much you could get the NES Advantage, one of my favorite controllers of all time. And that Family King joystick looks good. Was it ever released in the US?
  5. I'm left-handed, and I have no problem with the NES controller or any other that's similarly designed, like the SMS controller or SNES controller or Genesis controller. But then again I kinda grew up with those kind of controllers, not computer joysticks. So there you go. Our differences of opinion seem to largely stem from our experiences. I'm a console gamer, so...
  6. I also remember playing Return of the Jedi in a 7-11 once, sometime in the '80s. Neat game and at the time it reminded me a little of Zaxxon, one of my favorite arcade games of the '80s. I haven't played it since.
  7. Ooh, nice Atari Lynx model 2. Wonder how many arms and legs they want for that? I always wanted one myself, even though it has a monstrous appetite for batteries. Oh and if a store is charging $30 for Bonk's Adventure without even the case, that's your sign to leave the store.
  8. Yes there are a lot of terrible games on the NES but that does not sink it. The NES looms large in many a gamer's heart and memory (like mine) as either the first or one of the first console they ever played. I remember back in the day renting NES games from a video store and often the ones we did rent turned out terrible, games like Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Platoon and we were disappointed. But we also rented great stuff like Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Super Mario Bros. 2, Bubble Bobble, Contra and Castlevania. And at the time we owned some pretty good games too, like Super Mario Bros., Paperboy, Blades of Steel, and others. I still have a great fondness for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES, despite the bile that's directed at it. A good, but sometimes tough game. AND the NES is home to m #1 favorite video game of all-time: Super Mario Bros. 3. No sir, sorry, that's not a bad console. Nowhere near. (And what's wrong with the controllers? The only thing negative I can think of about them is that the shape wasn't rounded.)
  9. I've played more than 20 good games on the NES. Yes there is a lot of shovelware on the console, but that's true about a lot of other classic systems too, like Atari 2600, hello. The NES has other things about it that's great even besides the game. Really good controllers, especially for the time. Composite output. Zapper. Things like that.
  10. A bunch of dancing fans and a 1UP. It was so long ago and I think I beat it. It's funny, I can never seem to beat the bonus round on the Master system version of Shinobi. I dunno if there's a method...perhaps wailing on the button, shooting out shuriken as fast as possible.
  11. Okay I admit I never played RCA Studio II or Arcadia 2001. I don't want to own either anyway. Just almost everything I heard about both is ....yuck. I guess that's not fair though. SO. Of all the consoles I have ever played, the Virtua Boy is one of the worst, if not the worst. I played the Virtua Boy once, long ago. Seemed interesting, but didn't really blow me away at all. In fact it made my eyes hurt.
  12. I used to play Shinobi all the time at a local 7-11 when I lived in Wheat Ridge, Colorado from 1987-1988 or so. Good times. I remember also buying lotsa candy and the mostly tasteless gum that came with temporary tattoos, just add water. Remember those? Today, the Shinobi series is my favorite Sega franchise and I love playing the original on the Master System and the great sequels on the Genesis, particularly Shinobi III, which is tied with Streets of Rage 2 as my #1 favorite Genesis game. But I haven't played the original arcade game since like 1988. Sad. It's on my top ten list of arcade machines to get someday.
  13. If you go to the site right now, it says "This site will return by June 11, 2013", which was 6 days ago. I hope it's back up soon! I love that site. I miss making silly labels.
  14. Yeah, the second generation really seems like two separate but overlapping generations to me.
  15. Okay, you guys bring up some great points. How about we just forget about the whole 'generation' thing and instead just categorize consoles by some other means. Or just say, "screw it".
