#3986118 Looking for Nuon Stuff

Posted by GrizzLee on Thu Mar 15, 2018 2:29 PM

I may be selling off my Nuon Collection in a bit. First I have to find it all. I moved last year into a new home and I am still unpacking my game collection.

Make me a "worthy" offer to motivate me to find and unpack these. Otherwise, I will probably list this next fall when I get around to it and auction them off.  :-) As you can tell, I'm in no hurry.

I have various hardware versions and controllers. Some will be sold as sets with a game and controller.

Here is a list of the software.

#3970319 New XBOX one owner - a retro gamers viewpoint

Posted by GrizzLee on Fri Feb 23, 2018 10:00 AM

I have a feeling it's related to the network connection.

For some reason, almost everything has some kind of network check going on.

Even if you want to view your captures, it defaults to xbox live. Which, by the way, YOU CANT check when you are offline, which is what i am almost all the time.

There are serious issues loading games, and i have seen 'this game is taking too long too load' many times, even for the tiny backward compatible games.

For the most part, I'd have to agree with all your complaints about the XBONE. By design, it really only works when online persistently. I long for the days of plugging a cartridge or disc in and playing. Even having it installed on the HD should work w/o issues of having to be online. And yes, both of my XBONEs have frozen. One even had to be replaced soon after I bought it because of constant failures and hours on the phone and arguing with MS support about it (This coming after I had 4 RRD XBOX 360's .. you'd thought that I would have learned..) I don't have a PS4, so I can't comment how it works, but MS really missed the boat on the essence of what gaming is about. No longer can I buy a game and come home, plug it in and play it... Nope, I must wait several hours for it to "install" and update the friggin patches to the buggy shit that I plugged into my multi-media... do-it-all device powered by MS shipe. I am not a Call of Duty, Battlefield, mmorpg gamer, so maybe I am an oddity in thier market profile. As it stands now, I will never buy another MS "gaming" machine again. I loved Halo back in the day and that is what initially attracted me to the XBONE... but Halo 5 was a shipwreck of a story... Ruined the franchise IMHO.

I hear the Switch is pretty cool. May have a look see there at some point.

As far as bing goes... bleh... My Win 10 PC keeps barking at me to switch to Edge and drop both Firefox and Google... wants me to leave feedback on my WIn10 experience... constantly updates in the middle of work. Leave me the hell alone MS. If I want your products, I'll use them... otherwise, stay the hell off my box and work on improving your customer experience.  Microsoft can go suck an egg for all I care.

Just found these pics as well.

Some posters I made for NWCGE in 2006. They are hanging in my stairwell

A couple more pics ...

Years ago I acquired a Sears Atari POP display. Unfortunately, the gentlemen I got it from didn't realize the value and stored the side pieces (made from particle board) and such outside in a leaky carport here in the PacNorthWet. This essentially ruined them. So I have been re-purposing some IKEA shelves. I need to take better pics as some point.

Also need to fix my Imagic Store display.. It is finicky. Bad caps, PS, etc.. I dunno.

2 Years ago I moved to a Log home on acreage. Sadly, my game room has been neglected. I have a bigger space for it than in the old house... an apt above my workshop.

I started the process of painting and unpacking my goodies since it has been so wet this winter.

Here is where I am at...

#3651852 The 2600 in the Sears 1977 Wishbook

Posted by GrizzLee on Fri Dec 16, 2016 5:00 PM

It's hard to explain to younger people what an event getting these huge wish books was (including the JC Penney one). There was no Internet, let alone Amazon. Local stores only stocked so much. These catalogs were the way to see a wider selection of stuff you could dream about getting.

Plus, pics of women in lingerie!!! (Again, there was no Internet...)

Absolutely correct...

I also remember many of the catalogs sporting the "Sears Best" logo for the Atari.

One year, 1979 or so as I recall, one of the catalogs made the news, because someone at the printers used a pencil eraser to spell out an obscenity on the photo negative (it was on a curtain) that went to print in the catalog (I am not sure if it was a Sears or JCPennys catalog though). I recall after we saw the story on the news, I quickly looked it up in the catalog whereby my mom ripped that page out of the catalog and told me not to be telling my classmates and such about it. Pretty funny in hindsight.

Negative1, quit being so.... um, negative :P

I'm thrilled to see Pac-Man CE2 getting a physical release.  GrizzLee, like you I don't buy digital games - EXCEPT I purchased Pac-Man CE DX digitally on PS3 and it was worth every penny.  Insane fast-paced gameplay (with lots of eyecandy) and pumping electronic music in surround sound!  What's not to love??  I still play it to this day when I just need my Pac-Fix.  I have not read anything about the sequel yet, but I expect it to be great.  I'll be buying the physical release on day one.

So far I'm enjoying it... Played some Galaga as well. But I already have that numerous places. But, a first to play it on the XBONE. The bumping mechanics are interesting... The fact of the matter, is that I am getting old and my reflexes ain't what they used to be, so I am having a fun time to keep up with the fast pace. Makes regular pac man look like slow motion... and I suck at that as well.  In any event, the bright colors and music are really cool and retro (yeah, lots of eye candy). Epileptic seizures.. yeah for sure, Be careful.

I have no complaints. I really love when they up date the classics like this. Not really have played the previous ones, other than in a demo, so I really can't compare. But, hey, it only cost $20.. I will get my monies worth for sure.

I saw this at the show. I was impressed with the 3D effect. Not sure I'd pay the $49K asking price... But, the one at the show may be the only copy in existence. I knew I should have slipped it into my pocket when no-one was looking   :-o

Seriously, that was a nice booth, bought some of the new games. Thanks gentlemen.

The Target in my neck of the woods had PS3s on clearance for $100 (12GB model). Included a free game (Call of Duty Ghosts)... The mgr told me they were clearing out there remaining stock of PS3s and Xbox 360s.

I picked one up as a backup.  :-)
