#4263033 Took the plunge, bought a Jag...

Posted by Austin on Yesterday, 4:13 PM

All this hate for Battlesphere.   Tell you what, try going to a JagFest sometime where you have three or four Jags hooked up.  A LOT of fun.
And Alone Against the Empires is a nice update to Star Raiders.

You shouldn't need to hook eight consoles together for something to start resembling "fun".

#4257562 Retro collecting 20 years from now

I can't help but think that the marketing of today's games is, in some roundabout way, an attempt to combat piracy. When games are sold with the expectation that they're temporary experiences, to be replaced after a year, and that all they get on launch day is the install file for later DLC purchases... it's as if the modern gamer is being weaned off the idea that there is anything *TO* pirate.

Movies are just as bad, if not worse, in this regard. They've been made longer, so there are more to lose, and old film stock is notoriously volitile.

I wouldn't go out of my way to preserve someone's homebrew effort... but I'd rather do so than not, if the opportunity presents itself. Likewise, a couple of theater dweebs messing with a movie camera in 1911 might have been worthless 20 years later, but today I'd find it interesting regardless of what was captured.

Stop speaking so much sense. You do know it goes right over most peoples' heads here, right?

#4257560 Bottom line for PS1 Classic?

Posted by Austin on Sun Apr 14, 2019 3:28 AM

FYI, while the PS1 Classic controllers are USB, it's good to know they are recognized by older versions of Windows as typical USB pads. I have been using them with my Windows '98 retro-machine and they work excellent.

#4257339 Any hope for future A+ titles on the Jag at this point?

Those green shells look really good on those TMNT carts you and Gaz are offering btw, I wonder how those green shells came into existence? Whoever would have thought of making those?
Anyway it's a good thing they did think of that because it really makes the overall package of that product shine.

Rayman 2 on the N64 has all of you beat by a pretty significant margin.

#4253121 Sega Master System - What's your "One Game?"

Posted by Austin on Sat Apr 6, 2019 8:45 PM

I am going to be dumb and say Gangster Town. It's super easy to pick up and enjoy, looks and plays solid. My favorite console light gun game until Virtua Cop and Time Crisis hit generations later.

I tried Castlevania Bloodlines with the JB, I dont know but the last stage (stage 6) seems corrupt.
Seems like the parallax layers are a huge mess... like tearing.
Someone knows whats going on?

Can you post a picture? That stage is supposed to literally tear apart once you get inside the castle.

Well, that only took a few hours of thinking. Just ordered a Mega SG (thanks, jailbreak!).

All right folks, last bump. Managed to pay off what I needed to so I'm going to pull all this stuff in a day. Hit me up if you want anything, otherwise I'm holding on to what's still here. :)

I personally am more about one system one core. I mean, I guess playing game gear and master system on the Mega Sg is cool but I really wish theyd come out with a NES style FPGA system that didnt look like the Mini NT but a whole new design fitting in with their current Super NT / Mega SG lineup. Perhaps we could call it the Power NT or something, (reference to now youre playing with power!)

I'd rather see multiple cores per system. These units are expensive and the most I can get out of a single unit, the better. Also, with all the support the NT Mini got, I was disappointed when the Super NT didn't similar treatment. The Mega SG on the other hand is heading in the right direction and now I'm tempted to buy one.

More flexibility is always a good thing. The people that want to treat these as "one console, one system" are still free to do so.

#4248042 PS5 May Be Fully Backwards Compatible

Posted by Austin on Sat Mar 30, 2019 11:52 AM

Yes, if you can swing it the X will give you the smoothest experience. Fastest load times, best performance, then the titles that are enhanced by it (some 360, some OG Xbox). Either model regardless, the backwards compatibility experience is good.

Got one! Ended up staying awake until the second batch went live.

#4247482 Why is the Xbox One Dashboard experience so horrible?

Posted by Austin on Fri Mar 29, 2019 1:03 PM

Yeah, I don't have much of the issues either. Though, with a Xbox One X, I am disappointed with how long it takes to boot and how laggy it is to get intro other apps.

Seriously, my 360 from a cold boot is ready in about 10 seconds. My Xbox One X on the other hand takes about a minute. It's ridiculous.

And it has half the features of my 360 (no MP3 local recording, so no local MP3 playback. No Visualizer).

#4247473 Any PC VR players?

Posted by Austin on Fri Mar 29, 2019 12:45 PM

I have an Oculus Rift and absolutely love it. Robo Recall is one of my favorite games in the last ten years. It's so damn good. The second you think, "Oh, this is a gimmick game", it throws another mechanic at you and requires you to score better. It's so good. Production values and size/scope of the environments is top-notch. I listen to the OST on its own, if that's anything to go by.

#4246583 Why is "Outrun" so pricey?

Posted by Austin on Wed Mar 27, 2019 10:10 PM

How is it 2019 and yet still no Outrun compilation? Take my money already Sega!

Ferrari license.

Bump! Famicom sold. Also managed to sell my arcade machine locally.

Might add more but I'm not sure yet.
