  1. Yep, its the one I put up (unsuccessfully) on ebay in November and the one talked about too. The unit's the one I got off Curt back in 2002. If anyone's interested in putting in a (reasonable) offer to me please drop me a private message. Keep in mind it IS here with me in Australia too. I'm of course happy to send it anywhere though. Though I dont like how it was discussed, to ease your efforts in searching the forums - the link to the place it was discussed here is... http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.p...0787&highlight=
  2. Hmmm - well I can take being told that the price is hexy (and I for one dont think it is - heck there have been 2600 carts going for $3500 for one). But for some one to say that its a fake - well... If you had a problem with the auction dude - you should have asked me to answer the question via a query in email rather than bad mouth me and my auction here in the forums. Frankly your message just pisses me off. I didnt mention who it was because I dont think it appropriate to mention someone's name in a place like EBAY!!! Its funny how you jump the gun over it being a fraud because its here with me in Oz - you seem to have ignored me pointing out it cost me about 200 US to get here. Furthermore - I do have an ebay rating of 60. I know its not huge but it would suggest that I'm not going to ruin my reputation by doing the dodge... I have all the papers and correspondence from the original seller I got it off back on 01/02 but as far as I'm concerned I dont need to justify myself to someone who's going to trash me without investigating the matter a little first.... I got the thing on ebay originally and the story of how I got it is here actually. I'm not going to make it easy for u since you've forced me to write this - go have a look for the story yourself - and yes it is still here somewhere....
  3. lol or is it the Hampster that runs around in the wheel that keeps the servers running?
  4. I cant see anything noticeable in my boxed 5200 to suggest why - I'll pull out the papers when I am more awake...
  5. Did not last? i don't think so! There was game & controllers released in 1987. Two decades later we have a basket of prototypes. Lets not forget that the A5200 has the best hombrew library if we think to Intell and Coleco. Ummmm - I *think* you've taken what I've said out of context. I was referring to the RF modulator not lasting (marketwise) - I was saying Atari replaced the RF modulator with alternative hardware in later models of the 5200.... Sorry for the confusion...
  6. Are the newer ones grainy or something? How odd...
  7. Well from my point of view it's just another piece of plastic that's gonna be lost and/or break. The idea of having one cable is a bit confusing to me since you still need a power cable going into the RF Switchbox and another cable going out to the display. Sure you guys can agree with me or not (and I can see a few who disagree) - but if it was such a great thing that consumers wanted why did it no last and why did Atari get rid of it?
  8. What you *can* do with a MIPS Altair is sell it on EBAY. They go for HEAPS... How the hey did u come to get one?
  9. mmm I recall it being keyboard only as well. Gotta love that soundtrack!
  10. OK - I am speaking as a consumer from a country where the 5200 was never released - we down under had our fair share of random consoles and computers and I think the Atari brand would have helped the 5200 if it were to have made its way here. I can say that neither the games nor the controller in my opinion are a thing that detracts me from the 5200. The games are a treat (and I dont think you can compare 2600 game quality with the game quality of a 5200 game) and I agree with Curt on the Coleco's controller being far more painful than the 5200's. The one thing I dont like in my 4 port console is the way the thing attaches to the TV and power. That thing is darn right useless and impractical. I didnt see this in the commentary above in this thread - but I woulda thought this little box would have been a significant cost and a cost to redesign too for the later versions of the 5200...
  11. How convenient Just came back to the scene and I see Aussies are harping on as usual! :-) I'm on the Eastern side of our land down under and have the following My holy grail is... 1 x System X - the Atari 5200 prototype CONSOLE (purchased from Curt Vendel a while back) Other Ataris I got 2 x 7800 with about 20 or so games 1 x 5200 (4 port) - boxed with a tonne of games, a handful of loaner carts and a multicart (that doesnt work very well hmmm) 3 x 2600 (those cheap darth vaders - only one is boxed) and about a zillion carts - many boxed and some still unopened (but dont get too excited I know they're just the common ones) Others Computers 2 x BBC Model B & disc drive (yes both have DFS) 1 x BBC Master with 3.5" drive 1 x Sinclair ZX-81 Boxed (with ram expansion) 1 x Sinclair ZX (with one of those funny drives, printer, joytick splitter etc) 2 x Commodore 64 with DD etc etc with 5 drawers of games on tape & disc 1 x Vic 20 with about 20 carts 1 x VZ-200 with a few games etc Consoles Colecovision with the add-on devices (like the converter & steering wheel) Phillips TVG Pong like console Oh and a PS2 I have a few arcade machines too - an 80s drag racer thing and a few mame cabinets. I also collect old computer mags - my fav being CU (Commodore User) - I've even got the first 8 of them :-) - C+VG is also another classic. I have a library of computer mags - numbering about 300 (at a guess) with the oldest being late 70s... I am sure I've missed a few as I'm at work sitting in my lunch break at this and trying to recall what's in my games room. And yes... I AM *considering* hiving off some of this stuff cuz I am thinking I need the dough... Will have to take a few picks of my games room first though! (It's great in winter - really warm!) And please dont ask to buy the System X for 50 bucks!
  12. Thanks Mitch The frequency for anyone interested is 56MHz. I just opened the thing up had a look, plugged the power in w/o a console connected which caused smoke to come out of it! I realised I had the poles back to front so I swapped it around and low and behold that released the solenoid and guess what? The whole thing works again! These little things must be more robost than I thought!!!
