  1. I eventually moved to SpartaDOS as well.
  2. I had a P4 Northwood. Those were great chips at the time and allowed Intel to retake the performance lead. What really ended up killing the P4 was the introduction of Prescott. They redesigned the microarchitecture to support x86-64 and then shipped a chip with it disabled, resulting in a slower, hotter 32-bit chip than the Northwood that it replaced. Prescott was an embarrassment.
  3. I used the utility that came with DOS 2.5 to convert my files when I got it, although DOS 2.5 turned out to be a pretty big disappointment (mainly due to the really poor performance compared to DOS 3).
  4. I remember a college networking class I took where the professor was very sloppy about that. I remember him writing "1 mb = 8 mb" on the board once.
  5. Well, it looks like it'll cost me about $5 worth of parts to do two Popp mods or $50-60 for two UAVs. Since neither of these machines is likely to end up as my daily driver, the Popp mod seems like the way to go.
  6. I'm digging up an old thread here because I have a couple of 600XLs that I want to repair and mod to work with my XRGB Mini. I can't find any info about acquiring the right part for L12. I looked at the 600XL FSM, and it just says "ferrite bead"... So would this be suitable: https://www.jameco.com/z/BL01RN1A1D2B-Murata-Ferrite-Beads-Axial-7A_1844580.html
  7. Dunno. I don't remember hearing it on MWC... The Internet seems to have been the primary factor in spreading it. On a largely unrelated note, "frack" seems to be gradually cropping up more often. Maybe ratings and cultural relevance really are two different things. That, or there was just an untapped need for an obscenity that isn't considered obscene yet.
  8. I've always thought Scribd was a pretty clumsy site, even before they ended free downloads.
  9. For an unmodified system, 130XE. 128KB, better video output options than many models, etc. If you're going to do modifications, 600XL would be my preference. Better keyboard than the XE line, smallest system in the A8 line, should be all socketed, etc.
  10. Seems like lots of AI programmers have moved from Chess to Go and Arimaa, now that Chess is considered a solved problem. Both Go and Arimaa are rather cool games, but I find that Arimaa is a lot easier to explain to non-players and significantly harder to play with brute force.
