  2. I think it was a good idea. If anything can keep alive these 8-bit treasures and introduce them to a new generation in any capacity is a plus. I know I could buy a used atari 400, use emulators, but this 400 mini seems a bit more "real", than when I play with the atari 8-bit on my raspberry pi. I would really love an atari 800 (or even 400) maxi, but Atari just didnt have the sales numbers of the C64. The The 400 mini inst everyone's cup of tea. Maybe its to expensive, maybe it its crap, maybe people don't care? The 400 mini suits me just fine. I am having fun! I am playing some really cool games, I am delving into Atari basic, slowly delving into Action, and Assembly.
  3. hey there, I have always loved the atari 8-bits, got my mini 400, its pretty awesome. Now I must get this artifact thing working! thanks for sharing
  4. Hi there, Looking at what linux sees in "lsusb" after plugging it into my laptop, then holding reset and powering on, it is "Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics Company RK3036 in Mask ROM Mode" The official Rockchip firmware tools seem to only run on windows. I did see someone flashing a Rockchip device with the same chip, using Linux and tools from "firefly". For fun maybe look for the opensource "rkdeveloptool". I didn't have to go down this road, as my wife uses windows. It is terrible that it is nearly 2024, and manufactures cannot make things OS agnostic at this point.
  5. Im glad you are giving the nod to the classic type-in games. I actually am another person who would type it in. Honestly, I would not be where I am today, if it were not for the type-in programs of yesteryear. Its not so much fun typing in something like that; its actually kind of torturous. It does make me feel good knowing that all of the hard work, sometimes pays off. I like going back to older basic programs. I actually understand, at this point, what they were doing. The simple techniques from back in the day, mirror many things I do today. Count me in for 1 book, if you ever want to write one. I actually have been contemplating writing a book on BASIC, as I miss those old books and the fun they brought me.
  6. Decle, This is just great. Thank you for putting in the effort in for this. I really enjoyed the video and the thorough explanation of how you went from code in the pdp11, to a working program. You got your hands on the "APh CP-1610 assembler and linker"!!... very awesome! I am particularly pleased to see you doing the work on the pdp11 emulator. We've all heard about how games were created way back when on the pdp11 and custom tools. I just never thought Id ever be able to see it. I'm glad you're still interested in doing these things.
  7. Ah, probably the best description of what I think we see. You can never unsee two eyes on the boxers. I have to mess around with a mock-up i, I want to see if the boxers looks any better to me with different color gloves thanthe body. I realize The old boxing "coming soon" was better represented in Super Pro Wrestling., Maybe there can be a de-make of "Wrestling" from Boxing, with these "extra large guys with funny eyes" Still looking forward to a one player version of Boxing. It would be nice to not have the limitation on not being able to move and punch.... like make the action buttons punch in sequence .... left, right? if not , We should be able to use one controller to move, and the other to punch. I've lost plenty of matches while pressing the disc and buttons... never knowing why things weren't working on the screen.
  8. Awesome. I never understood the need for that limitation of the colors. I understand it being an issue autoracing. I always loved Boxing, but couldn't understand the visual of that left? glove with the hole in it, messing up the look of the fighter's heads. The fighter always reminded me of the elephant man , which probably came out in theaters around the same time. I was very confused when christmas 81 came, and the catalog in my sea battle had a better looking boxing "coming soon"... although years later, i realized its an artists rendering, it actually seems possible for this to be created, but this always bugged me... along with the original look of dungeons and dragons
  9. Haha, me too. Its a very difficult game for me.
  10. silly me, sorry , thats from Stampede!! ha, i saw "trail" and immediately thought of happy trails. new question, Can you achieve the 3000 points in stampede you would have needed to obtain the patch?
  11. I dont have any of the patches, but I remember seeing them online and in the manuals. In my manual, i see you get a "Trail blazers" patch when you get 40,000 points. Is that Trail drive a patch that you could buy back in the 80's?
  12. Wow, I just found this today in here. Congrats on your second book! in a long series ? Im having a tough week, so this was a welcome sight on my screen... Thanks!
  13. Ah, I just totally missed that zip file. I see the 64bit version . thanks.
  14. Looking really good. I enjoy tracking the progress. keep up the great work.
  15. I got it compiled and it works fine. (now I have to get jzintv compiled correctly, in the small linux environment Im testing within Chrome OS)
