  1. BFD? I'm not sure if that's a convincing argument. In other words, I could switch it around like this: "You play the NES game to get to some silly animated ending. BFD!". I'm split down the middle, why not have games that do both? And enjoy both? I have to imagine that if I go buy some shiny new game for $50, spend a weekend playing it, google hints and cheat codes, and then "finish it", why do I need to replay the game again? I've now got a $50 paper weight. Have I challenged myself? Sure. It might take me a couple of times to 'beat the boss', but once I've put that into muscle memory ... boring! That's not to say I didn't enjoy the ride (because I do like those games), it's just that the ride is over. Now, a high score game, that's a challenge! I've been playing Keystone Kapers recently, and haven't cracked 40,000 yet. Have I ever!? Or Pac-Man arcade, have I ever gotten past, let's say, the 3rd key? And heck, even on the levels I've done 1000 times, I can still go ahead and lose a life on the cherry screen (Pac-Man's 1st level). Sonofagun! Whereas with ending games, how often do you die on the first level, or sometimes even die with real consequences? Meaning, if I'm playing Super Mario Wii (which I absolutely love), the first thing I'm doing is going to the first level and getting like 15 guys. Heck, on my saved games, if I'm getting low, I just warp over to the first world and replenish another 50 guys. Is this a "trophy generation"* thing? Where you don't really want to be challenged? Or challenged to the point that you may never make it (most people can finish ending games, but most will never reach certain levels on high score games)? * trophy generation - the kids today. For example, if you play some organized event (e.g. baseball) -- EVERYONE gets a trophy. It's OK Little Johnny, that your team went 0-20, here's a trophy for trying! i had an atari when i was a kid sure, but things have progressed so far since then. I like a challenge just as much as anyone else, but in order for a challenge to be meaningful there must be something at the end of it, or why else would you under take the challenge? i don't want a trophy or anything, i just want something a little more than a number on a screen, don't get me wrong not ALL atari games are like this just most of them. Can you honestly sit there and tell me pole position's 2 levels is more than sufficient? that beserk does not get extremly reptitive after the first 4 screens? Yars revenge is really the same 2 screens over and over again, i could go on. Im not rubbishing the console completly it does have a place in history and some games that entertain me for a few hours, but considering all these factors i believe the NES to be much more fun to collect for, because it is not saturated with rushed horrible games. just my OPINION i don't mean to step on anyone's toes
  2. personally, i like to play what i collect, and when you compare atari 2600 games vs NES, its clear to see that NES games have more depth, oh yea and the fact the nearly ALL atari games can't be finished e.g have no REAL ending, who wants to play a game that has no ending? yea i can get a a high score but BFD. The graphics are bad the sounds are annoying.... for me, atari 2600 collecting is just like stamp collecting, for show ONLY, and my master system and NES will be for playing. Just my 2 cents
  3. i dug up a couple more of my games today and found mario bros and breakout, and just have a few questions can breakout be played WITHOUT a paddle? all i own is a one button joystick and it does not seem to work I cannot find any infomation on the internet about my mario bros, it has a BLUE label in an activision case (those fin things by the top of the cart) and it says on the cart "licensed by nintendo 1983" and it has 2 numbers on the cart CX2697P and CA400226-097, oh yea and its PAL any help would be great thanks!
  4. ouch!! wouldn't want to leave ya TV going over night, you would wake up in the morning with one of those multi colored bar things burnt into your screen
  5. LOL hahaha honestly burn out the color? hahaha my god thats funny! i mean no offence we always had a colour tv, i had my first atari at 4, so 1984 everything was colour tv. man i felt old when i was talking to a teenager and he didn't know what a 386 computer was......but black and white tv....man i would feel old.
  6. can someone explain to me why the consoles have color/colour or black and white? i don't get it, either you had a colour tv or you didn't, i don't imagine you had to switch the console to BlackWhite to work on a BlackWhite tv and colour with colour tv. p.s yes this is how we spell colour in our country
  7. Long rainbow - PAL B - atari corp - manufactured in china - serial # :X7094137430 p.s junior's feel like a cheap nasty chinese toy prefer my vader
  8. *calls the Atari police* "Yeah, we've got an Atari dissenter...." I still have a bunch of lame-o looking Activision carts to try, still. The worst I've played have been Freeway, Sky Jinks, Ghostbusters, Dragster, and Skiing. Skiing's alright, but DAMN it's just so slow. I picked it up thinking it'd be remotely like Ski Free for Windows 3.1. It only looks the same. wow crazy, that's the same reason why i picked up skiing, because of 3.11 windows ski free, although the atari does not have the sasquatch
  9. so collision is off while shooting? lol.... how on earth did this hit the shelves with such a gamebreaking bug? I THINK it also may have been packed with some vader consoles, not a great game to show ya mates when you just bought the console.....
  10. pac-man is pretty bad, and whats the deal with defender? when i shoot i flicker and nothing can hit me.......wtf? makes for an easy game.
  11. i give commandos my vote, i mean the game felt rushed, bullets that only travel limited distance and no grenade explosion effect, and enemies that randomly appear.....yea i think its pretty bad.
  12. hi all i own a 7800 control pad that im using for my 2600. i have a problem with the d pad on it, it appears that the d pad gets stuck under the circular hole that is cut for the d pad itself, it mostly happens with left and right but sometimes happens with up and down. were these controllers originally doing this? or is there something i can do to fix it? real annoying when im playing river raid with a mammoth score and the d pad gets stuck on "right" and i hit a wall
  13. yea i think i don't really have an option. kinda disappointed really because my joystick gives me carpel tunnel and my 7800 joy pad's 'D' pad gets stuck under the hole on the controller, nevermind might look for that wico sticks wherever you get them.
  14. hi eveyone This is my first time posting here, and would like a bit of help with something. i recently bought myself a vader 2600 with 2 controllers, one 2 button joypad (similar to NES one) and one of the original joysticks. Because i am after the original experience i am using the original joystick. For some reason the joystick is stiff as hell, i can only play a game for like 5-10 min's because i get cramp in the hand i am using, feels like im getting carpal tunnel in that hand is there a solution to this? or do i just buy a 3rd party joystick? i don't remember the joysticks being this stiff as a kid, maybe i had a stronger right hand back then.......
