  1. ^^ Yep. That's how my original TI ended up that way. I was just a kid and I couldn't afford to buy a new console when my keyboard went bad. The only replacements were the white/beige ones. I didn't care- I was just glad that my computer worked again!
  2. Back in 2000 when I attended the Chicago TI Faire, I visited the Museum of Science and Industry and took some photos of the TI's they were using in the displays. I have 3 or 4 pics here: http://www.99er.net/chicago/chicago.html Rich
  3. Greg- Are you getting blocked from my site? I just ran multiple checks to see if I was blacklisted, and I'm not. I also ran several checks on the site for viruses, but it was all negative. Please let me know what browser or antivirus is blocking 99er.net. Thanks, Rich
  4. Haha, sorry Chris! Well, I posted about this on the Retropie site, and I was told that the TI is too obscure (!) to have been included. I posted a request in the issues forum to have the TI added. It seems that the author needs a CSV file with the cartridge sha1 hash, thegamesdb.net ID number, and title. I created the file for the cart images that I have, but that led me to realize that I'm missing a lot of carts in the ctg format. The ones that I have are the ones that are in the file in the GP2X archive on openhandhelds.org. Does anyone know of a utility to convert other cart formats into ctg other than the Linux utility that's included with TI99Sim? It will be a lot easier for me to convert carts using a Windows utility than having to do it in Linux. Rich
  5. LOL While there are plenty of plans out there for these bartop cabinets, I cheated and bought a kit on eBay. I got mine a year or so ago and the price has gone up a little (but there are some new features, like a pre-cut slot for T molding), but the same seller is still offering them. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Table-or-Bartop-Arcade-Cabinet-Machine-Cut-Flat-Pack-T-MOLDING-SLOT-/282234389227?hash=item41b67b02eb:g:BikAAOSw2s1Usa0J For anyone that's interested, I do have the arcade-style joystick and buttons to add to this, and they are working with the Retropie (including the TI99 emulation). To do it I followed the Adafruit instructions and used their software: https://learn.adafruit.com/retro-gaming-with-raspberry-pi/adding-controls-hardware

  7. I'm setting up a bartop arcade with MAME and several consoles installed, including the TI-99/4A. I'm using Retropie, and with the latest version, you can install TI99sim using the Retropie setup script (it's located under 'manage experimental packages'). I've never had any luck getting the built-in scraper to work so I'm using Stephen Selph's scraper (with thegamesdb.net as the database) to download game art, and it works for all of the systems except the TI. Googling around a bit, I see that there should be a TI99 folder with a file named gamelist.xml located at /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ and also at /home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelists/. Neither of those locations has a TI99 folder on my system. Has anyone else gotten this working, or do any of the Linux experts out there have any suggestions? Thanks, Rich
  8. Yes- that was the most frustrating part- the lack of documentation. I drew that diagram up from the ASCII one I found in the firmware release notes. I'll have to add the power connections to the diagram. It's shown in one of the pictures that I posted, but it's a good idea to add it to the diagram too. Even after I figured all of that out, I almost soldered my LCD in backwards. That had nothing to do with the poor documentation of the Gotek, it was the poor documentation of the LCD module. I guess that's the flip side to the relatively cheap hardware. :/ Rich
  9. I posted here about it before, but I got one of the Gotek drives to work with my TI, but I found a seller on Ebay that had already installed the HxC bootloader so that it would work with the TI: http://99er.net/blog/blog/2016/05/06/using-a-gotek-floppy-emulator-with-hxc-on-my-ti-994a/ But, that's why the drive was $60 instead of $10. I also added a LCD and 3rd button. It was pretty easy once I figured it out: http://99er.net/blog/blog/2016/07/06/using-a-gotek-floppy-emulator-with-hxc-on-my-ti-994a-part-2/ I'd be really interested in how you load the bootloader on these. The seller I bought mine from made it sound like you needed to have a license in order to do it, so I never looked into it. I think I may have the needed cable around here somewhere. Rich
  10. http://www.ti99db.org/Cartridges_view.php Searchable, sortable, includes many cart pics, screens, and manuals. May not be complete, but anyone is welcome to register and add. Rich
  11. Here is a link to hundreds (thousands?!?) of .hfe files from the 2014 Chicago Faire disk: ftp://ftp.whtech.com/video/Chicago%20TI%20Fair%202014%20Videos/Chicago%20TI%20Faire%20HFE%20Files%202014/ (Not sure why they're in the video directory... :/) Navigate up one directory for the ISO image of the disk. I don't know if it might help anyone, but here's a link to my info about the Gotek (Lotharek knock-off): http://99er.net/blog/blog/2016/05/06/using-a-gotek-floppy-emulator-with-hxc-on-my-ti-994a/ I'm going to post something soon about adding a LCD display and 3rd button. -Rich
  12. Humble Bundle is running a great bundle of DRM-free electronics ebooks books from Make: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/make-electronics-book-bundle It's 'pay what you want', but if you pay at least $15, you'll get all of the books. That includes volumes 1, 2, and 3 of The Encyclopedia of Electronic Components. Hurry up- only 9 more days left! Rich
  13. I can't remember if I scanned that copy of the User's Reference Guide or not, but that definitely looks like a good candidate for re-scanning. I'll dig out one of my hard copies and scan it in as soon as I get a chance. I've been slowly re-scanning, or at least cleaning up, the docs I have on 99er.net. I posted it before, but if anyone is interested, ScanTailor is great for cleaning up document images, and it's free. I explain how I use it here: http://99er.net/blog/blog/2016/01/15/scanning-and-editing-documents/. I also started a TI99 database with the goal of having a central place where anyone can upload and download information, including books and manuals. Unfortunately, I did not know about the ti99iuc.it database or I wouldn't have duplicated efforts, especially with what a great job he's done. Still, no point in deleting it after all the work - it's at http://www.ti99db.org/index.php. -Rich
  14. Yes- It worked great until I updated my phone. I've emailed the author (and I'm sure a lot of other people have), but no response. He has the the source code available on github at: https://github.com/elorimer/droid99 I've been meaning to ask for a while, but is anyone here able to update it? I'd be happy to host it...or, would be able to just do it at Google Play? I'm not sure what the process is for that. -Rich
  15. What's the name of the restaurant? I clicked on the Google Street View link, but all I could see is the truck stop. That's okay, but what's it called? I wanted to post a link on my blog, and I didn't know what to call it...but I did list the address. The more promotion the better...I linked to this thread. Rich
