  1. I was playing with the thought of marrying the screen of the Stacy with the LED-backlight of a modern day PC. I never really took a closer look of the screen unit in my Stacy when I took it apart the last time, but judging from your photos that wont be possible? What about putting a led-strip on the edges of the screen, any opinion on that? Or is my best bet to do a similar operation such as yours? My Stacy is pretty beat up and I don't depend on it working perfectly, but it would be nice to have a working backlight on it.
  2. NO, your page was really helpful, no irony intended at all. I noticed that the jumper for burst-mode was set differently to my card on a photo on that page. Since I read in so many places that burst-mode RAM was so rare I just assumed I shouldn't have to change that jumper. But it made all the difference.
  3. On another note, I just got 4x4MB RAM for it today, which I couldn't get to work at first. But thanks to your excellent homepage *hehe* I found out what was wrong, the jumper for "Burst Mode" was wrong. Seems like the original memory was in burst-mode.
  4. The photos in this thread aren't mine. The hard disk was replaced with a modern one, 18GB, using an adapter. Think the interface on the new drive is called SCA 80. Doesnt matter, the harddrive works. A bit troublesome at boot time though, have to reboot the TT once to make it recognise the drive. But the seller explained that, so that is ok. Cant adress all of the drive though with the hd-driver it was equipped with though. Well, as far as I can tell, the only part removed was teh Matrix-card. The backup battery was flat, so I have bought a new one. So that part works. It came with 4MB TT ram and 4MB ST RAM, same as original. German TOS 3.06, but I will change that to Swedish TOS. The only issue is that they cut the connectors to the serial ports and used only package tape to insulate the ends. so with time it would have dried and fell off and might cause problem later. I plan to solder them back together though. I suspected that the failing programs could be due to either TT-RAM setting or cache, but I haven't experimented with that yet. Xboot works nicely on my Falcon though. But from what I understand tehre are compability problems to be expected with some software. In general, it seems to run nicely though. But I dont really dare to move it around on my desk right now.
  5. Just an update, ran both the memory-test programs on it, and they indicated no errors. Have run several other programs on it as well, without problems. A few programs bombs though, not sure if that's due to a general compatibility problem with the TT or something with this early rev. TT. One of the programs that fails is XBoot. Another curious thing that I discovered is that it got sold twice on Ebay within one month. I even contacted the first seller asking about shipping costs, but that time it was sold for a much higher price than I was ready to pay. But that time it was equipped with a Matrix graphics card. I know it is the same because that ad had a photo of the serial number.
  6. Ok, similar to mine. The transistors on mine sitting next to the power-connector tends to get quite warm though. Might be it's not up to the specs of the original one. I have a few others that I'll try it with. Got a new fan for the PSU and clock battery for the TT yesterday. So now it will tick on and be silent at least. Amazing what progress has been made with fans the last 20 years.
  7. Similar to what I have then. Might be that the one I use is a bit underpowered, hence the problem I had with the STE. I did experience something strange when using it with the STE, sometimes when resetting or even turning of the power to the STE it seemed like the SATAN fed power into the STE. Run some game from the SATAN, and when resetting or even power-cycling the STE the game remained in RAM. I had to unplug the power to the SATAN as well in order to be able to restart properly. Can't recall I ever had that problem with my Megafiles. A good program to properly test the RAM and everything would be handy. Was thinking if I could find one of those test-cartridges to see if tehre is something else wrong wwith my Ataris.
  8. Well, had it running for some time after I wrote this, I dont have much software in it yet, but I ran Kronos on it to put some load on it. It made it past several runs. Knocking on wood here. I'll get a good PSU for the SuperSATAN and then run it with my other ST's to see if mine seems to be ok or not. All I need to do is find some time to do it. I'll report in this thread on my findings. What kind of PSU do you all use for your SATANs?
  9. I have had it returning to a state of showing just a white screen again, and back and forth couple of times. Seems like it is the DMA-chip, the C398739, that is the culprit. THe last time I carefully lifted it with a small screwdriver and pushed it back, and that seems to have made all the difference. So, as it seems now, most likely not the SATAN, but just an error that was waiting to happen. Or might be that the flaky powersupply damaged the DMA-chip, it bombed now as I was typing this, showing just the desktop. So right now it's not completely reliable.
  10. It's a miracle! Took of all the metal shielding, wiggled around with the RAM-cards and pressed on some of the chips in sockets. And now. It booted up! What a RELIEF!!!!!! Noticed that one of the pins to the TT-RAM card was bent, dont know if it happened now when I took it apart or earlier. But anyway, it's back showings its happy light green dsektop, I'm happy and my weekend is saved! Big thanks to everyone for the tips, support and suggestions! I really did believe it was fried and that I had to go hunt on Ebay for a new one. One thing is for sure, I wont use the SATAN with it again, to be sure. Might not been the SATAN that caused the problem, could just have been the little force I had to apply when connecting it, but wont risk another heart attack. .
  11. From what I've learned the TT's board isn't marked with any revision number, but I can tell yours is a later gen. TT than mine. Mine is probably first gen. Early gen TT's have metal shielding, two cooling fans and most ships in sockets. Later generations have the shield in the chassis, the red paint, and most components mounted directly on the board. There are something like 5-6 revisions.
  12. I live in Sweden. I've got a few tips on things to check, have got contact with "Best Electronics" in the US. They've given me a few hints. Will see where that leads. Do you know which revision of the board you have? Mine is an early one with almost all IC's in sockets.
  13. säg den lycka som varar....

  14. It's worth a try and I'll try it; it did travel all the way from Germany to Sweden. I didn't really think of resocketing everything. Still, I'm quite certain I've must have blown something since it was running along nicely before this happened. Well, will keep my fingers x'd and try..
  15. Don't know. Could be a flaky power supply for the Satan, or a badly built one. It's not an original Super-SATAN from -what-his-name-, I bought this one on Ebay last summer, from France. And yes, could be my TT had reached it's end. Still, wont help me much. I want it back up and running.
