#4248422 Announcing Berzerk for CV!

Posted by Electric Adventures on Sun Mar 31, 2019 3:28 AM

A little addition, hopefully indicating how much I love the arcade game and how I will strive to make it as close to the arcade version as possible:

#4222041 MSX/Coleco Sprite & Tile Set Editor

Posted by Electric Adventures on Mon Feb 18, 2019 5:30 AM

This is an application written in C# .Net for home brew developers to create both Sprite and Tile Set designs for their home brew projects.

The sprite design section allows:

  • multi-layer pattern design
  • animation sequences
  • export to assembler and C formats
  • import data directly from existing source code

The tile set editor section allows:

  • characters can be designed in groups of four for larger objects
  • powerful colour editing and copying

I intend on adding more features in the future.

The application is free to use, but I have included a Donate button if anyone would like to contribute to the cost of the certificate.

You can download it here: https://www.electric...tor/publish.htm

It will automatically ask to update if you are connected to the Internet if I have published an updated version.

A little update, Berzerk is still being worked on, I had to take an extended break away from all things due to a major issue with my neck, pain, lost the use of my right arm, unable to walk etc.

The good news is that I had an operation late last year (fusion C6/7, artificial disc C5/6) and I am in a much better way than I was, virtually no pain, I can fully use my right arm again and my energy levels are improving all the time.  I still have some walking issues, but hey I am a computer programmer and mostly sit on my back side all the time :)

I have even dusted off all of my titles in progress and have done some code tidy-up on Berzerk to re-familiarize myself with things so I can continue.

More of the collision detection is working and I am looking at starting on placement of the robots and their movement logic, so hopefully I will have an update video to show everyone.

I fully intend on becoming a lot more active this year, so watch this space.

#4096486 Hardware Questions for the Creator of the Colecovision?

Posted by Electric Adventures on Tue Aug 21, 2018 9:51 PM

It would be most interesting to find out more about the ties with Spectravideo, from what others (from Coleco and Spectravideo) have said there was some technology transfer one way or another.

We know MSX came from the Spectravideo base hardware and we also know that Colecovision and Spectravideo had fairly close ties.  But there is a not a lot of public detail on what was exchanged.

The discussions may have only been so Spectravideo could bring out their Colecovision adapter.

I’m always excited for some Berzerk! Now if you can port Space Dungeon right after this! This looks great! It helps further my decision to purchase an Adam Computer.

I had not heard of Space Dungeon, so looked it up immediately.  Wow, I am impressed, and yes this would definitely be possible, so it makes me want to get Berzerk finished so I can start work on it!

Twin stick controls will be available for Berzerk as a control option by the way, Would work with them mounted in the roller controller perhaps.

#4080273 Thanks and appreciation thread

Posted by Electric Adventures on Fri Jul 27, 2018 6:30 AM

I'd also like to thank everyone who contributes to the Colecovision community and keeps support for the system going after all this time.

Especially thank you to all of the home brew developers, especially the ones that make the effort to craft games from scratch, and make the console do things previously thought not possible.

Sorry I have been offline for a while, just been surviving, we have not had a good ride of late, but know that things have improved, so expect updates on my numerous titles under development soon.

#4080264 Opcode Update Request July 2018

Posted by Electric Adventures on Fri Jul 27, 2018 6:18 AM

Not quite on topic, but this is an OpCode update thread, any updates on sorting out the non-working Penguin Adventure carts, been 14 months since I got my non-working one and hardly an email in response?

#4075041 Announcing Berzerk for CV!

Posted by Electric Adventures on Fri Jul 20, 2018 4:09 AM

I finally have a nice relaxing weekend off at our holiday home after many months of work and family health issues.

So I decided to revisit a home brew development project for the Colecovision that I had not touched for a while, a port of the arcade game Berzerk.

The port is running well, the maze is the same as the arcade, including all of the 65k rooms in the same layout.

See a video of the game running here:

The changes since I last shared an update are:

- The player can now fire in all directions (some bugs to iron out)

- The player dies when touching a wall

- The player's fire will stop when hitting walls

Still to do:

- Player fire collision detection with robots

- Robot placement

- Robot movement

- Robot firing

- Scoring

- Title screen, including high score table

- Sound effects

- Speech - yes it will support speech

So far the ROM is coming in at 15k in size, so there is plenty of room in a 32k Rom cartridge for the arcade speech data and an appropriate sample player.

Another update soon.

I haven't had a wonderful year, both with work levels and a seriously ill child, but things are definitely on the up.  I have a new job and my 2nd eldest is in remission and things seem to have settled down.

I am back doing some coding, but I have to finish off a title for Collectorvision 1st before I can come back to this one.  But don't worry it is one of my favourite 2600 games and I really want to make an excellent version for the Coleco :)

With repeatable tiles, and screens made up of larger segments you could have the whole game JF is proposing above with the suggested game play enhancements in 16k easily.

Using twin sticks sound interesting as well.

Yay got my copy today, just like the others, extremely well packed, thank you.

Long weekend coming up as well, so can't wait to play it :)

#3662285 Team Pixelboy News Bulletin - January 1st 2017

Posted by Electric Adventures on Sun Jan 1, 2017 6:11 PM

just noticed something..

Does the wizard of wor you announced is the same announced by opcode here?

I"m wondering also if the Berzek announced by electric adventure is the same than the one from opcode.

Or they are parallal projects???

I think there is a previous discussion about both Wizard of Wor and Bezerk from that Opcode announcement in that they were games he would like to release in the future.  To my knowledge no coding has been done, the screen shots were just mock-ups of games he thought would be possible.

So Pixelboys Wizard of Wor and my version of Bezerk are the only versions that will be released that I know of.

I would also like to note, I do not foresee Bezerk needing the Super Game Module, even once I add the voice parts of the game.

Also with Bezerk I am seeking formal permission from the current copyright owner as they are still active.

And while we are on the subject, this is a thing that I hope others are doing, especially with certain games that current property owners consider to be one of their prime intellectual properties (they may have seemed to be asleep but I can assure everyone that they are not dead), as it could bring all of the games that are just ported (using most of original source code) in view  i.e. especially the number of games that have been released in the last couple of years, it would make it worthwhile to pursue legal action by the mere quantity.

I am in recovery from the illness that has kept me out of action for the last half of 2016, so we shall see a lot more progress on my list this year.

#3660666 Cavern Fighter for Colecovision

:_(     i was looking foward for that game being a scramble fan.

Your game looks great , did you (or do you plan) to release the MSX version?  At least i could play it!  :)

Yes definitely will be releasing a MSX version as well.  Due to our postage black hole down here in OZ will probably be done through Repro Factory and Collectorvision may distribute in Canada/USA, we shall see as they haven't done a MSX release as yet.

#3659859 Cavern Fighter for Colecovision

Posted by Electric Adventures on Thu Dec 29, 2016 5:01 PM

Finally got some time to have a go at cleaning up Cavern Fighter for Colecovision, majority of play issues sorted, graphics have been tweaked, more colour used through out.
Just needs some sound and a bit more play testing and it should be ready for release very soon.

NB: Will require the Super Game Module.
