#4008339 Atari 8-bit related BBS(s)

Posted by Tillek on Sun Apr 15, 2018 12:54 PM

Came across this on a blog I follow.

Alcatraz isn’t listed but some of the other 215 area code boards are listed.

Man... that goes back further than I do.  I don't remember any of those NE Ohio BBS's.  I really didn't get into the BBSing until about '86-'87.  Not sure when the Akron area Atari BBS's started up but none of them seem to be on that list.

#4005340 Where are all the ICD P:R: Connections?

Posted by Tillek on Tue Apr 10, 2018 6:47 PM

Damn - I have to get a proper top and back panel made for my 1088XEL.  That just looks too nice!

Also, I had no idea the P:R was so rare.  Glad I snatched one up when they were easy to find. I really need to see if I get get on PLATO with my Lantronix + P:R.  Too many projects, too little time.

I hear that... Let me know how it works... Though I'd have to get my hands on the PLATO cart.....

Software engineers don't get snow days. :(

#3962076 Gribnif Software released as Freeware?

Posted by Tillek on Tue Feb 13, 2018 9:08 PM

I didn't notice this posted here, and it only showed up on the Facebook groups today...

But apparently, Geneva, Neodesk and a few other little programs were released as Freeware by Dan Wigla?

As posted in multiple places.....

Thanks to the magnificent job of Dan Wilga (Gribnif), and many thanks to the insistence and assistance of Tenox to recover this useful and legendary software, thanks to the Change.Org petition by AtarianComputing and all the people who have collaborated in this.
For things like this I am proud of the Atari community.
You can download this software from the official link, and you can also make a small voluntary donation (maybe a coffee?) to continue motivating those who can contribute utilities to the current Atari scene.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

So I'm still having issues with the MSS-100 for SFHQ.....  and I finally found the 2nd one, only to find that it was DOA apparently.

I have it running now, but I'll be switching to the UDS 1100 (which will require some tweaking to the Fido config, but that's neither here nor there...) so hopefully we'll be back to being stable.

I also got the BBS list updated ( http://www.sfhqbbs.o...taribbslist.php ) with the addition of Part Time BBS and the return of The Grove.

I'm really sorry I got behind in BBS related things lately.  I couldn't believe it's been weeks (or in some cases a month) since I've called around.

Just couldn't get motivated to do anything during this last vacation week.  Spent most of it not feeling well... so again, I apologize.

I will make sure I get all the systems verified soon (though I think everyone is up at the moment except for my flip flopping which I hope to fix tomorrow).

#3915138 C64 (PETSCII) term emulator app BBSing on ST?

That said though, if I had source code to a good base and it was just a matter of plugging things together, that would be an entirely different story.

Just a quick note... Looks like the MSS-100 gave up the ghost entirely (to the point that when it's connected, it actually brings my router down with it).

I need to dig through my stuff to get my spare, but it's way too late (I'm well past my normal bed time on a work night) so it will likely happen tomorrow.

Sorry to anyone who tried calling... (Insert BCLJ Laugh Track here)... (Cleveland area people will get that.....)

Thanks. Was that out back-in-the-day?  I think I used Flash exclusively back then... Maybe even on my Falcon... Wait... ANSI Term? Hmm...

Yeah, I think it was one of my first term programs on the ST after I moved on from the A8? But I quickly moved on because most of the A8 BBSs were gone in my local area and I had mostly moved to the ST too. ANSITerm was eventually my term of choice. I want to say I used VANTerm till then. I still use ANSITerm when calling from my ST though I admit I do most of my BBS calling from the PC with SynccTerm currently. It does a great ATASCII (and PETSCII).

#3904593 Pokey tunes while BBSing?

Posted by Tillek on Mon Dec 4, 2017 9:07 PM

I don't recall one that played Pokey music, but there was one where you could play a simple Breakout game while downloading at the same time. That was an impressive feat to me at the time.

I remember that one! What was it called?

Gotta look. Might still have it if the disk isn't bad.

Someone will just post another. At least this one shows the original poster saying "ok, part my fault, part his".

So just an update.....

I verified and updated the BBS list tonight http://www.sfhqbbs.o...taribbslist.php

Welcome back YYZ! (Let me know when you get 8-bit Guild running).

Also, The Grove is back!  Apparently he didn't know he's been down. ;)  Funny who you find on random Facebook threads......

ST Guild was the only one I couldn't verify, but I can reach out to the SysOp and try again later.

Safe travels!

#3884283 Is Atarimax still in business?

Actually, looking at the calendar, it would seem we're quite overdue.  Someone apparently dropped the ball.

And I just remembered that doing a little key/legend to explain things is probably important.. I'll do that later tonight.

Just to clarify On Line and Off Line are pretty much self evident... The difference between "Down" and "Off Line" is that "Down" means that it's down, and we know it's down and we know it will be up whenever the issue is fixed. (currently in the case of Lord Cygnus' BBSs that are down because of his move, but will be back up. (There is also an "Uncertain" for when a BBS can't be reached for a bit, but no news is heard).

And any suggestions on how long to wait between cycling through the status.
