#3173183 Any reason to still want an 850?

Posted by Tillek on Sun Feb 8, 2015 1:41 PM

I've seen threads on here about Lantronics, but what does it do?  There are no browsers to get on the web or are you talking about FTP sites on the web for strictly file transfer?  I'm curious.

The main use would be to telnet to (or start running) a bbs system.  That's what I run SFHQ on and there are quite a few others.  You can do the same with APE and other solutions but I like the idea of the BBS operating without having to have a PC handle the communications.  Works just as well with the 8-bits as well.

Then again, I hate to point out the obvious but... if you want one, get one!  Don't overthink it.  Let it be a doorstop then!  As long as your kids aren't going to be missing any meals because you had to have one, who cares?  What's the harm?  Go for it.  That's what collecting is all about.  You don't see stamp collectors using their collections to mail out the electric bill payment, so go for it!

Is this one of those topics that you read the next morning after you posted it and swear never post while drinking ever again?

#3145728 Are there any reproduction carts for Atari 8-bit computers?..

Posted by Tillek on Sun Jan 4, 2015 2:18 AM

There are a number of repros and fakes flying around on ebay, usually not indicated as such.  B&C Computervisions is a repeat offender selling these off as new, but they are unauthorized fakes.

What's happening here is that B&C is burning EPROMS and re-using old Atari cartridges shells and passing them off as rare or "from his personal collection" or as old atari stock that he added shells to.  It's a scam.  I've previously reported it to ebay, but they do not seem to care.

Not sure what you're talking about but I just looked at every one of those links and if you read the whole description it seems pretty clearly stated that it is a reproduction.

We found this game in a batch of stuff we bought from Atari in 1996 when they were closing. We are producing this un-released game for others to enjoy. The original had no label or case so we have made a label and added a new original Atari made case and backing. The proto board is original Atari made. This game is identical to the original un-released game I bought from Atari. IT IS NOT THE ACTUAL GAME CARTRIDGE  but a reproduction of it using original Atari parts!!! No manual or box.

Lotharek.... Nuff Said.  Maybe the reason the Europeans don't participate in the talks is that they're too busy churning out the actual stuff?  ;)

is gone.... it contained z file compilers and interpreters for the atari and an improved 512 size engine for infocom text adventures etc.

Not gone.... Just moved.

Actually, in a couple places.....

Awesome skills there. Reminds me of the guy who posted me a 15.4" LCD panel in a brown padded envelope.

What?  Flat screen, flat envelope... don't see the problem with that? ;)

(Just out of curiosity, did it arrive functional?)

I'm running OASIS JR. at the moment.  Right now, caller must be at 1200 baud, can't figure how change OASIS JR. baud to 2400.

If you want to see it, call 216-371-2583 just tonight (7/23/14 8PM to 8AM  Eastern USA time)  You must be at 1200 baud.  And here's the .ATR that it is on, 770 kbytes.

Run from APE or ASPEQT.

Run a R: handler then load OASIS.COM.  The R: handlers are *.HND files, I think three of them.

Oh, Yes.  Hit 'y' after you connect.  It means you want line feeds and doesn't show up when I connect.

There is still an Atari dialup bbs in NE Ohio?????????

Well, they mentioned the E.T. debacle, so technically you could credibly say that ALIENS were responsible for the fall of the NASL......

Makes me want to fire up the intellivision and play NASL soccer!

I'll be moving it to the Mega 4 STE that originally ran it but just have not found it in the basement. I picked up another Mega 4 STE recently, so I might move it to that one, but I really would prefer to have it on the original system.....

#2737229 FIdoNet...?

It took nearly 20 years.... But I'm back on Fidonet. Hours ago, I got the rescan of the Babylon 5 echo as a test (1000 messages) and now I'm downloading rescans (all old messages) from about 40 echos...........

Still a few minor bugs to figure out... but it's breathing again!

STar Fleet HQ, FidoNet Node 1:2215/1701 ... back in business! On REAL Atari Hardware!
