    The Paddles

Sounds like with all things these days there's some QC issues, and if you get a good set of paddles they're great and work like the originals, but you might get a set that has issues. But it sounds like if you get a good set, they should give the same resolution as the originals if used with an original Atari or through an emulator or Retron77.
  2. Shipping has become quite unreasonable in recent years across the board. It adds a significant cost to everything for consumers. When shipping is half the cost of the item, that's a problem.

    The Paddles

So the issue with the resolution of the paddle movements being limited on the 1600+...Is this an issue with the new paddles they're selling, or the Atari 2600+ system itself? I'm considering buying a set of their paddles just to use with my Retron77 (using the community firmware and OG cable adapter for the paddles) and Stella on my PC. Are the new paddles themselves capable of performing as well as the original paddles, and it's the 2600+hardware/firmware at fault?
  4. I came in to check on the very same thing myself. I was hoping there might have been a newer firmware build that corrects the paddles on the front ports. I have a pair of paddles with new pots coming from Best-Electronics, and I have another pair of original paddles and the Ranger controller. For me, they work with the Retron77 and community firmware through the OTG cable setup and the D9-daptor, but I was hoping at some point the front ports would become usable again for paddles. As I understand it, the paddles work great if using the stock firmware that ships with the Retron 77, but installing the community firmware to allow adding roms breaks the paddle functionality with the front ports. Is this accurate? I was also briefly considering picking up the latest Flashback 50th anniversary Gold, but the included paddles and original paddles don't work properly on that either, and oddly, like the Retron77, it's the right side of the screen that's the problem. There's some videos on the paddle issue with the new new Flashback on Youtube. Apparently the included paddles are fine, it's the translation from analog to digital that may be the issue with the new Flashback.
  5. I saw a video on Youtube that talks about the paddles that come with the Atari Flashback 11/50th Anniversary Gold edition. According to his tests, the paddles themselves are perfectly fine, but the way the flashback interprets the inputs is an issue (analog>digital). Here's a link to a thread in here that talks about it and links to the video: Has this issue been improved with updated firmware, either official or custom available in here? Has anybody tried using these paddles with the original release of the Retron77, either through the front ports or the OTG Cable? I already have the Flashback X but it has some audio lag, and it didn't include paddles. All I really want are a good new set of paddles, to use with either my Flashback X or my Retron 77, or with the 2600-daptor D9, but as usual Atgames doesn't sell the paddles separately, so I'm considering buying the gold flashback 50th just to get the paddles. If the new flashback has less audio lag, that would be a bigger reason to buy it too. How are these new paddles in general? And are they compatible with the Retron 77?
  6. I was told the Ranger won't ever work with the D9 due to how it was designed, but the Ranger does work with the 2600-daptor II and the original 2600-daptor. I own an original Daptor-2600 and tested my Ranger and it does indeed work very well using it through the OTG cable using the latest community firmware. Plugged directly into the front ports, the Ranger only works on one half of the screen with the community firmware. So those looking to use the Ranger with the community firmware should get the Daptor-2600 II. It's far more limited than the D9, but it does support the Ranger. Also, with the Daptor-2600 and the Ranger using the OTG cable, I can keep the Trooper joysticks plugged into the front ports of the Retron77 and they work too.
  7. Thanks! I'll give it a shot. Does anybody know if the Ranger works now with the 2600-Daptor D9 or is it still unsupported?
  8. Okay, I just checked and I already have an OTG cable as pictured in this thread. So to get the paddles (or original joysticks) working with the Retron77 community firmware, is this the correct setup?: - Plug OTG cable male into Retron77's Micro USB power port on back. - Plug Retron77's power cable into OTG cable's female Micro USB port. - Use a USB printer cable to connect the Daptor-2600 D9 into the OTG cable's USB port. - Plug the paddles into the Daptor-2600 D9. Is this correct? What if I want the joysticks plugged in also? Can I keep the joysticks plugged into the two front ports on the Retron77 and they will work along with the paddles plugged into the OTG cable?
  9. I own a set of original 2600 paddles along with the Daptor-2600 D9 with the most recent firmware, and also the Ultimate PC Interface v3. I've also got a USB printer cable. But I'm not sure how to connect it to the Retron77, and what settings I'd need to change, if any. Is there a guide for this somewhere?
  10. Thanks. I'd appreciate more info on that. I didn't expect the Ranger would be as good as real paddles, but I did hope it would at least be usable. Sadly the only thing the Ranger seems good for is the stick. I guess this has been an ongoing issue and it must be something to do with the Ranger not working well with the community firmware, since apparently it works with the stock firmware according to other comments. I'm guessing the developers of the community firmware can't seem to figure out how to work around the issue.
  11. Same issue here - my new Ranger jumps all the way to the right once I hit the center of the screen. The paddle only works on the left side of the screen. This is with v6.6.0.
  12. I'm having the same issue with my new Ranger and asked about it in the community firmware thread since I'm running the community firmware. I have no idea why my Ranger only works on the left side of the screen.
  13. I bought a new Ranger controller and tried using it plugged directly into my Retron77, but the paddle isn't working correctly. I've tried several paddle games and either they don't work at all with the controller or for some games the paddle works for the left side of the screen but then it just "jumps" over to the far right once I hit the center part of the screen. It doesn't move across the right side properly. I'm on the most recent community build firmware and have an older original Retron that passed the crash test. Any idea what might be wrong?

    RetroN 77

Ah, I didn't realize that new one is USB only. I have a couple flashback joysticks that came with my flashback 10, but they're really light and cheapo. Out of curiosity, do those work with the Retron 77? I was hoping somebody currently made a good compatible joystick. The Retron joystick is pretty nice except for that lousy sticker. I'm wondering if I should try just peeling it off the rest of the way and then using Goo Gone to clean it up. But I suspect it won't look so great if I do that. I took a look at Best Electronics' website again. I've seen it before. But it's...confusing to find anything. The front page is a huge wall of gigantic text that all seems to blend together. It seems they offer replacement parts, but do they offer ready-to-use joysticks/paddles that have already been rebuilt with their new components? EDIT: I think I found a page that lists their pre-built controllers (under quickguide).

    RetroN 77

Can anybody recommend a good new Atari joystick? The top "wood finish" sticker is already peeling off of one of my Retron 77 joysticks, which barely had any use yet, which is exactly what I was worried about the first time I saw them. I expect the sticker will eventually start lifting off the main unit too. It's a shame they went with stickers. How about the new Atari VCS joystick? Is that compatible with the Reton 77? It's wireless so I guess not, plus it seems unavailable anyways. There's a newer reton 77 joystick on Amazon, with additional buttons, but it too uses a sticker, so it will have the same problem. Atari knew back in the 70's not to put stickers on the joysticks because stickers always end up peeling, especially on something like a joystick which will get handled frequently.
