  1. A friend of mine who owns a game store has a boxed 2600 for sale (wood grain version) with a joystick, two paddle controllers and a "slew of games" (not sure which ones yet) for $85. Good price? Also, are these easily modded for s-video or whatnot? No biggie if they aren't, I'd just have to route them through a VCR to record the signal and it'd be of lower quality and some of the immense detail would get lost.
  2. I was a kid, what did I know? But later on I got into Choplifter with its Defender-ish gameplay. There was also some other Atari 2600 game that I really liked but don't remember the name. It was insanely easy. I think there were 2 or maybe 3 different "scenes" at most. I almost want to say that in the first part you collected a key or something. Then you went inside and fought a dragon maybe? You win and then do it all again. Memory is so vague on that one.
  3. Yup that's me. My only regret about the Master System picture is that the more I look at it, the more I want the power to be on.
  4. Yeah I imagine a lot of people do. So that's why in every episode we put something after the credits. This particular episode has a stop motion SuperGrafx vs Jaguar battle. The SuperGrafx wins because it teamed up with the mighty Ghost House for the Sega Master System whereas the Jaguar teamed up with the 32X. Sometimes the stuff we have after the credits might be a minute long or even more so my only fear is that people might look at the playback bar and think "Damn, how many credits do they have?" but we generally try to keep the credits themselves pretty short. The music playing usually determines their actual length. Oh, and Defender is awesome. I've only played it on the 2600 and it was my favorite game for the system back when I was a kid. We do want to do a show on that generation of games but it's gonna be tough to scrounge up enough systems and games. A friend has a bunch of stuff so we'll see. EDIT: Typos as usual.
  5. Indeed. I knew when that game came out that there was little chance of a better game showing up on the system. As far as I'm personally concerned, it's the best on the SNES.
  6. I agree, the credits are the perfect place for that. That's why they're there.
  7. I don't have those but a friend of mine has at least the 2600, buried somewhere with Colecovisions and whatnot. I'll eventually feature those on Game Sack in some sort of extra-retro gaming episode and spend about 3 weeks trying to clean the consoles up for photography and video purposes.
  8. This is Joe. We had the system for a few weeks with all of the games the owner had. I would have liked to try other games and definitely would have included them. Ideally I would have liked to have also shown Doom, Rayman (for sure), more racing games, the proto of Soul Star and some CD games. Defender 2000 might have been good to show, too, but I always got the feeling they were just tryng to capitalize on how popular Tempest 200 was. I don't think I've ever played Defender 2000 so I can't say for sure. I agree that getting the system in its heyday would make a different impresssion on most people. I have played the Jaguar a few times before, even with the CD-ROM. Blue Lightning didn't impress me anywhere near as much as the Lynx version did.
  9. I took a bunch of pictures of the game consoles I had access to (all but 3 are mine). Feel free to use them as wallpaper or whatever you want. There are a few systems missing like the 3DO, older Atari stuff and whatnot but I may add those in the future as I gain access to and/or acquire them. Here's the picture album: http://imgur.com/a/3AviF
  10. Wow you want to nitpick the exact same things on multiple web sites, eh? This is the definition of a troll. Feel free to follow me around, though. If you had paid attention to the video you'd know the systems weren't mine and I'm not responsible for the contents of other people's game libraries.
  11. I would have loved to include Rayman but didn't have access to it. Of course after the episode was up I saw a cart-only Rayman for sale at a local store. I'm sure Doom would have fared better than the 32X version from what I've seen of it. Not a huge Doom fan in any regard but if it controlled as well as Wolfenstein did it would have probably been enjoyable. Mr SQL, we do look at the gameplay! Metal Jesus didn't like it, either. Instead we usually think What would Game Sack do? I will disagree with the bias statement. I don't think we would need less, I think we'd need MORE to appreciate many of the games. Bias towards the Jaguar or Atari in general, mainly. The bottom line is that many of these games are largely unappealing and rightfully so. The Sega and Nintendo bias displayed on the show is mainly an act. Dave (the Nintendo guy) has a way bigger Sega collection than I do, and mine's fairly impressive. But we did have fun comparing other failures (32X, Virtual Boy) to the Jaguar and to each other. And yes, the Jaguar was a failure.
  12. We have 54 episodes so far. "That's right" is basically just a segue into whatever the next comment is but this episode had more than usual. But they do show up more often than I'd like. I guess we could say "yes" or "indeed" from time to time. Hell, we might already do that.
  13. Yeah, never could get into Tempest even back when it was originally in the arcades. It's kind of funny that's one of the best games on the system, though. Like Dave said, it says a lot about the system when the top games are such as they are. Though I do think you are confusing "hate" with "doesn't like it as much as you do".
  14. I think that most pre-NES stuff gets a pass at console design because they really didn't know what they were doing back then. Many of the designs are amusingly bad, but by the mid-80's there was no excuse for an ugly console. That said, the ugliest thing ever to grace my eyes was the Sega Master System 2. Ug, it is just hideous! I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet in this thread. I guess maybe someone could have, but I didn't see anyone post an image. Such a disappointing design. I used to want an XE. I was blown away by that flight simulator they showed in the commercial, all 3 frames of it! I almost bought one instead of a Master System. I had a wad of cash I wanted to blow on my first game system and I had my heart set on Sega, but they were out of stock after Christmas. The XE was in stock, of course. I was begging my aunt to drive me back to the store so I could get the XE but she wouldn't. Thank goodness, too. I ended up getting an SMS a few weeks later with Space Harrier and Choplifter.
  15. I noticed Metal Jesus posts his videos here so I figured I'd do the same, especially with this one which you guys might be interested in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfASnU3SFQs I'm sure we're gonna get ripped a new one based on out opinions of a couple of those Jaguar games. It's already been insisted that Ultra Vortek is an immensely fine game, for example. Oh well, that's OK. Just know that we aren't as familiar with the system as a dedicated fan. But hey, SuperGrafx!!! Enjoy. Or at least pretend to.
