#4235307 Altirra 3.10 released

Posted by TheNameOfTheGame on Sat Mar 9, 2019 9:38 PM

Uh, what am I reading here?  So he had a question and was rebuffed then everything fell apart.  I don't know Alfred, but why dump on the guy?  I didn't see his attitude as particularly "shitty".  Agreed, the one post he made was pissy, but so what?  Are we becoming so milksop we can't tolerate someone frustrated with a little bad attitude?

Yes, defense force and piling one chased him away and that's not a good thing.  And I say that with great respect for Jon and Phaeron!  Free speech doesn't mean we always agree with what is said, but the person is still a human being. :(

#4230139 BlowUP FX v1.9 Drivers

Yes, it would be good to get this driver on https://www.dev-docs.org/docs/

Right now Lonny has 1.7a version up.

#4221576 Improved Atari TOS versions available

1. Yes! Fuji logo, especially with rainbow effect! I always thought that was so cool! Put it on a black background and I'm in heaven! But, I understand some think it is too much 1980's influence. What can I say? I am never outgrew the loud fluorescent colors from my youth.

2. All of my questions about integrated vs. non-integrated mass storage drivers come from a question of migrating and upgrades. If I insert new ROMs with my ancient Megafile 30 will my system boot? Then if I enable integrated driver will my system still boot? Once enabled, can I add UltraSatan and use >512MB partitions with my current Megafile 30? Perhaps I should have stated my question more clearly like that upfront. | :)

3. Oh! You removed all floppy code? That's a very bold experiment. I still have my floppy drive and even though it is a dinosaur I cannot imagine it being disabled. :(  For me it is integral part of the machine and the user experience. I use floppies with my son and he is amazed at how the ST works. "Where's the hard drive, Papa?" and I hold up a floppy. Going back to to my original thought, I thought removing some TOS code and linking to external applications would free up lots of space and simplify the structure. It sounds like very little is used so you are right - why bother removing it? Another good external helper app would be replacing the Print Screen function. How about it calls a program to save a BMP on the root of the boot drive. I never used that function, even in the 80s and 90s. But, maybe it doesn't save much space too?

I'm sure there are enough cool apps out there that can be linked to menu items. I hope you know I'm not asking you to write those apps. Well, some you already did like your floppy format program.

I actually use Hot Keys quite a bit. Maybe 50/50 with the mouse. Old habits die hard, I suppose. ;)

I am using 1.04i and the floppy drive works fine.  I still use floppies sometimes so this is important to me.

Btw, your idea for fluorescent boot colors is  hideous.

Thanks to Peter I received the image files and have burned my new TOSi ROMS.

No problem booting up and I like the boot screen:

And it works with my VoFa adapter in high resolution:

Looking forward to trying some of the advanced features.

Nice work by a great Atarian!

#4215300 English Translations of PAK, FRAK, PuPla, Panther and NOVA Manuals

Posted by TheNameOfTheGame on Thu Feb 7, 2019 7:29 PM

I translated some hardware manuals to English in case you don't frequent the other Atari forum. :)

Attached you can find the manuals for PAK68/3, FRAK/2, Panther/2, PuPla/2 and the NOVA Graphics Card all translated to English.

Hopefully they can be of some use.  I needed these myself which prompted me to translate them.

#4202529 Upcoming Jaguar SD Cartridge

Posted by TheNameOfTheGame on Mon Jan 21, 2019 11:32 AM

Yeah, I bought a Jag CD from Electronics Boutique (anyone remember them) back when the Jag was out and the sales guy was laughing at me for buying it and tried to talk me out of it.

Now I'm the one crying since I sold it 10 years ago lol.  So Jag CD support would be a really nice feature if it can be done.

#4202379 A more robotic mr. robot !

Posted by TheNameOfTheGame on Mon Jan 21, 2019 8:09 AM

Nice sprite work! Loved this game when it came out.  Played the hell out of it.  Simple, but very creative.  Then the construction kit was the source of many crazy new level designs, mostly trampolines if I remember correctly lol.

Btw, I like your original sprite more than the Bender one.  It has a lot of character to it and the way it animates.

Thanks for the video.  The speed of the save state function is very fast!  That will be very useful.  This is a great TOS upgrade!

#4200613 New Dragon Ethernet cartridge interest check

Posted by TheNameOfTheGame on Fri Jan 18, 2019 9:53 PM

For this you have 850 inteface plus Lantronix serial to Ethernet device.

Yes, I have this, but isn't the dragoncart TCP/IP stack better?  Would be useful to have this available with the extra memory of the U1MB without taking up the cartridge slot.

#4178883 Fire and Brimstone under work - pls. test

Posted by TheNameOfTheGame on Mon Dec 17, 2018 9:05 AM

I tried with Steem SSE 3.8.1 and 3.9.1 - which should be bugfixed versions. And it worked not at all. While in good ol' Steem 3.2 worked fine, except that health lose in second location.

Went in further fixes - there were some protection remains, and added unlimited health option - what was lot of work, since needed to change 12 locations (record so far) - and I went thru only first 10 screens ....

After fixes it worked with Steem SSE 3.8.1 , Steem 3.2  well. Will try on Mega STE later ...

And it seems that there will be no later game adapting ... Really don't see the point after so 'much' people jumped on testing ... :(

Spending 15-20 hours, and almost nobody cares . I just feel like idiot.

But this one will be finished, because that's how I do things.

Thanks so much to for the fixed version.  Now I can test better.  I'm sorry you're not getting a good response for testing, but your hard drive adapted games along with simonsunnyboy's boot loader and a good mass storage device make playing games on the original hardware very nice and convenient.  I know you have worked on a couple of games I've requested in the past and have been very friendly and got them working.  I for one appreciate your work greatly!

To those who don't know about Peter's hard drive adapted games, he has eliminated the need to run from floppy with hundreds of great games.  Go visit his web site and see for yourself http://8bitchip.info...am.php?s=1&of=0

Thanks Peter!  Will test out.  Thanks again for all your work with hard drive adaptions together with sunnysimonboy's game booter, it makes running games on a Atari very nice!

#4172167 My TOS 1.04/1.62 improvings, how combo 1.04/2.06 is done

Posted by TheNameOfTheGame on Fri Dec 7, 2018 7:54 AM

I understand then.  Well I'm sure you'll post when they are ready.  And thanks for your TOS improvements and work on hard drive game adaptions also!
