#3631381 Buy a real nintendo instead...

Posted by exo on Mon Nov 14, 2016 9:46 PM

Where the heck did "polygon" even come from?

They seem to be the center of all gaming-related internet drama, and everybody talks about them as if they didn't just magically appear randomly a few years ago.

I think that they emerged from gamergate. I dunno, a lot of the writers for that site deserve to be treated as bad as some of the subjects of gamergate simply due to their shitty writing.  :D  :D  :D

I see no reason not to do Both!

Chances are, a Very large percentage of people on this forum already have the real deal so everything else is just for fun!   I found myself almost Amazed at how much I am liking my Mini!  And I have Most of the games And I have a Retron 5 so Even I can't explain why I'm liking this little thing so much...

I don't recommend ebay prices unless money really is no object...But if I'm being honest I probably would have paid double...(Just don't tell Nintendo...) ...

I'll probably get a mini if they're still available at retail price when everyone who "needs" one has one.

#3631362 Are Classic Mini controllers OEM to Nintendo controllers made 30 years ago?

Lets have a civil response.

Well, there goes that.

This article flat-out sucks. A lot of the flavour text used to describe some of these games and their prices made me visibly wince. No better than kotaku, they're both just two sides of the same "muh childhooooood / whoa haha nerd culture, right?" coin.

Also, their prices are completely misleading. $6.49 for an NES AND StarTropics, my ass. Even if it was missing a 72-pin, it wouldn't be that cheap. The line about the extra screw in the cartridge was pretty dumb as well. Clearly this writer has no idea what he's talking about.

#3630835 The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

Posted by exo on Mon Nov 14, 2016 10:28 AM

I don't find very many video games at my local thrift store. I know that someone in town did find a Vectrex and a bunch of games last year, because it went to my friend's game store, but aside from the rare cases like that, there are no games to find aside from the scattered PS2 sports title. Luckily, there are a good number of decent VHS tapes and board games. Today, I got the best board games in a long time from my local Salvation Army: Zaxxon and Pocket Simon, both for $2! Zaxxon will look nice next to my Q*Bert board game :P

Nothing wrong with a bit of Adventures of TRON! Such a fun game. I even made a homemade gif of it for this thread! ;)

#3626691 Arcade Games You'd Like To See Ported To The Atari 7800

I'd like to see NARC. If it could (barely) work on the NES and most 8-bit computers of '88 (including the ST), it could work on the 7800.

I like the game, it's one of the few horror games on the NES. Cheers!

It was fun while it lasted. Ignoring this topic, this is a waste of time. Catch you on the flipside.

Yes, the lowest common denominator loves it, and from the perspective of cheap glorified calculator screen manufacturers, they are the ones who count.

I could make a picture with text that says "Hey, shut up" and feed it to my CRT, and take a high-definition photo of it to show off all the beautiful scanlines, and then post it here, but I'd rather talk about how there's a serious risk that the NES Classic might get a really low print run, since Nintendo is notorious for that. In fact, I mentioned it three pages ago, but your flaming is taking center stage. Thanks.

I never put people on block because you'll miss a lot of entertaining forum drama. Then people reply to stuff and you either read it anyway or have no clue what they're talking about.

But I think I'm done replying to his rebuttals. I have a CRT and a 1080p LCD gaming monitor. My philosophy is simple as I match the display tech to the output. If it has HDMI, it plugs into the LCD. If it has composite or RF, it goes to the CRT. I have no use for RGB, Component, or S-Video.

I agree.  I have a decent-sized CRT for most of my gaming needs, a PVM that I use for my SNES mainly, and an LCD TV for modern stuff, and I do personally get pixel snobby when it comes to my personal set-up, but I honestly don't give a flying shit what other people's preference is, and I certainly won't spend 3 goddamn pages going off-topic about it in a thread that's supposed to be about the NES Classic.

I was annoyed before, but now I'm just mad. Seriously, let's get back on topic.

Felt like my first score wasn't good enough, so I popped in a better controller and tried harder.

Also, on the topic of Night Stalker, I picked this sealed copy up a few years ago! Probably not worth much more than the 99c Woolworth's sticker on it, but it's still neat to have in addition to my opened bilingual box variant that I use for play.
