I've never seen an interpreted Pascal for the Atari, but Watcom Pascal on the C64, and Instant Pascal on the Apple II are interpreted. Some might argue the Forth environment is much like an interpreted environment.

I have some questions about the disk images posted by luckybuck. Why are there four different disks with different Action! binaries? (eg. ACTION.COM, ACTION1.COM, ACTION2.COM) Are any of these builds based on the fixes to the recently acquired source code? The included TXT files are not very descriptive. Which is the best or newest one that I should use? Thanks.

Marty, my understanding is that they were accessing two different files.

I found this comment on the Supra MicroNet from a review in ANALOG magazine: "Supra provided the Atari community with its first networking product. MicroNet provides nine SIO connectors. Eight are for computers. The ninth goes to whatever peripherals are to be connected. The system served to isolate the computers electrically. It did no software checking, meaning that two or more users attempting to print or save at the same time could trash each others output. (ANL 51, 76)" Apparently the problem is with writing files. If one computer opens a file for writing, then a second computer accesses a file on that disk, then the first computer writes to their open file, the data can get written into the file the second computer accessed. Mathy, am I correct in assuming the A2CI/A2RI would have the same problem as the Supra MicroNet? This problem wouldn't bother me in my use of either device, but I can see it would be a problem in a computer lab or office if people didn't verbally request access before writing files. I suspect the Handic VIC-Switch would also have similar issues.

NLE doesn't have any parts left except some XF Single Drive Upgrades. Lance Ringquist said Video61 bought all his Quintopus's. I've sent an email to Video61. Haven't heard back yet.

Pardon my electronics ignorance, but why are there three +5V and GNDs? Are they all isolated for some reason? Do they each have their own amperage, and if so, what is the benefit of that?

Is it possible to have two or more Atari 8-bit computers share a chain of SIO devices, either simultaneously or in turn? I'm thinking of something like the Handic VIC-Switch for the Commodore 8-bit computers. I also asked this elsewhere and was pointed to the "Automatic Two Computer Interface" mentioned in the page linked below. It only supports two computers but, based on how it works, I think it could be expanded to support more. If you choose the Spansih subtitles, you can then choose to have it translated into another language. There are subtitles at the start and end but none in the middle.

Yes, I definitely have never figured out why PETSCII is how it is. It still seems strange to not have ATASCII and screen codes match up. I suppose a custom OS would be useless to most people who merely play games and use pre-written apps, but for those of us who know how and enjoy programming, writing one's on OS is more fun than being able to run software other people wrote. Now that I've seen your answer to my last question, I realize I should have known it would be possible because Liber809 can run OS-9, which is ASCII-based. Thank you for your reply.

Thanks for this. I found it very enlightening. I knew there are differences but I didn't know what. Does anyone know whether this is somehow linked to the difference between PETSCII and screen codes on the Commodore 8-bit systems? Obviously PETSCII was around before ATASCII but it seems like they both swapped the ASCII table around for their video chips. Also, if one were to replace the OS and character ROMs in an Atari, could it be made into a pure ASCII system? Could this be done on the Commodore 8-bit systems?
