#4159573 Empty NOS Jaguar cartridge?

A very fun game IMO. I remember Mrs Jago saying the gameplay seemed a bit slow but I really enjoyed it. Have fun!

This thread made me laugh multiple times  good stuff.

At least it was a more common game OP. Keep box & manual, order cart only off ebay.

#4159243 So I finally bought Tempest X3 for the Playstation 1...

Cool to see YAK's opinion on this one.

To anyone looking to try this out on hardware but on the cheap, the TX3 bin/cue image runs perfect on a soft modded PS2 via POPS (on USB or HDD). Notable as apparently it crashes on PS1 PSIO ODE mod.

I added your show on Stitcher app, but noticed some uploads are missing such as Episode 61 here (jumped from 52 to 60, then 60 to 62). Enjoying the listen via Youtube. Just a heads up there. Thanks! Very interesting at 28 mins in so far.

#4073949 What was the Jaguar truly capable of?

Posted by Jagosaurus on Wed Jul 18, 2018 9:29 PM

Iron Soldier 2

I think these give us a pretty solid idea.

Even the tunnel areas of Zero 5

8:05 mark

It'll always be hard to beat a team of programmers feeding their families on their checks in the timeframe versus guys coding in their spare time today.

I think Rayman & Super Burnout are very impressive, but not as exciting to speculate about sprite based games apparently.

Acid wash jeans with the Jaguar eyes patched on butt pockets too much to ask?

#3948406 What Atari Jaguar games should have come out on other consoles

Posted by Jagosaurus on Mon Jan 29, 2018 9:14 PM

If you also count PC platforms, the Jaguar didn't have many exclusives. Even Flip Out, Brutal Sports Football, and Mutant Penguins found their way over to DOS.

I agree, Super Burnout & AvP needed more exposure.

I've never played this one personally but from footage, Battlemorph on Jag CD would've fit in well with early PS1 titles.

While Iron Soldier 3 was on PS1, I think the first 2 games could've found an audience outside of the Jaguar.

Here's the video. To my knowledge, this only surfaced recently.

#3942870 Did ICD ever deliver catboxes in the end?

Posted by Jagosaurus on Tue Jan 23, 2018 12:14 PM

At this point in time isn't the cat box outdated? I know... ironic question on a board discussing old tech

Not many 15Hz monitors accepting RGB over 9 pin still around these days. We're taking niche within a niche within a niche there.

I was very excited about the product when I incorrectly though it was VGA, but unfortunately this would just be an expensive s video box for me. If you want RGB you can use scart. If you want s video there are a couple options.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very cool piece of Jag history but doesn't seem very functional for video signals.

Assuming the box is needed for some of the multi console link/LAN game(s) though? Just one, Battlesphere?

Some one post a video of this! Great song choices and very cool concept.

#3931909 Very cheap SCART to HDMI converter: be worth?

Posted by Jagosaurus on Wed Jan 10, 2018 10:15 AM

I was reading reviews for the Akura HDMI box for the Dreamcast and certain TVs will automatically stretch the 4:3 it is outputting to 16:9. The solution was to run it through a Framemeister (HDMI in, then HDMI out) which somehow the TV would then display the game image as 4:3. Worth noting, I read several reviews where the TVs shook hands at 4:3 480p over HDMI just fine directly from the box itself.

If some TVs have issues with 4:3 out of the higher end $85 Akura, I bet this this budget box is 16:9 out of the gate. Even if it is passing 4:3 across, your TV might not like the signal and automatically stretch it. I know my TV doesn't have option to go 4:3 on HDMI within the menus although it is there on others such as component, composite, s vid. If the upscaler device and TV shake hands as 16:9 there is no manually changing it on the TV side on my gameroom setup. I also assume this budget box lacks a menu system with manual settings? This is where the in depth menu system and many options intended for retro gaming come into play on the Framemiester.

Essentially, 4:3 over HDMI can be tricky and depend on your upscaler, as well as the TV/monitor. Going cheap is rolling the dice. Overall, if you're okay with 16:9 and/or your TV only has HDMI (and you're not shelling out the $300+ for a XRGB), this is an interesting budget set up as an option.
