#4262556 10 reasons Mega Drive is better than Genesis

Posted by Osgeld on Sun Apr 21, 2019 9:00 PM

This is not correct. The actual name is the "Sega Master System." It says it right on the console, on every iteration of the console ever sold. There are no consoles that just say "Sega Base System" or "Segascope 3D System" they just say Sega Master System Power Base on them.

Even the Sears Wishbook sold it as the Sega Master System.

except for the Mark III, which was the original master system :P

as far as SSD's intel and sharp did have bubble memory in a few machines of the mid 80's (like most of the early model GRiD laptops used it as non volatile storage)

I wouldn't say that they're common, but there are enough multi-million dollar machines with them around that are going to have to be well and truly run into the ground before anyone thinks of buying the newer model that comes with a USB port or Ethernet.

And yes, you can add one to a regular desktop PC for the price of a $5 plate and cable but they're a relatively rare sight on a NUC.

every nuc I have ever seen has them, they are usually just not populated / broken out, but its still a place on the board for them and they do work

The presence of the COM port suggests that this thing is designed for sticking in factories where you might potentially need one to talk to an antiquated piece of machinery.

Swap it out for a couple of old school joystick ports and you've got a better retro gaming box than anything Atari is ever likely to make though. Nice work ASRock.

almost all motherboards still have a com port, but usually its just a header, even my brand new MSI gamer blah blah blah AM4 board has a com port

and since I work in a factory full of antiquated machinery, com port's are not really that common

#4261873 Is doing retro stuff expensive and hard?

Posted by Osgeld on Sat Apr 20, 2019 4:13 PM

It can be expensive and hard, it can be done on the cheap and easy depends on what one is trying to get out of it ... I am not a pokemon collector, I don't have to catch them all, and in perfect condition or else that hole on my shelf demoralizes me as a person, so I just kind of kick back and enjoy what I happen to find along the way

back to your sound blaster example, sometimes I don't get people I had 2 sound cards for sale recently

a sound blaster 2.0 and a crystal audio

sound blaster sold instantly for a silly amount of money, couldn't give away the crystal audio card (I tried and eventually found a home for it) even though its superior in every way to the SB 2.0 ... people what are you going to do

#4259636 Are older Dell Laptops worth anything?

Posted by Osgeld on Wed Apr 17, 2019 6:13 AM

I sold one very similar to that for 40 bucks

I also bought just a couple months ago a hp pizzabox desktop with a i3 3220,8 gig, 250gig hard drive for 50 bucks shipped

So you might be able to get some.money out of it but no frills commidity computers can be had for next to nothing all day long from about a thousand places

BBB is a useless joke and a drain on resources

the only thing good about it is the fact that you can see the endless complaints on a A rated company, back before the internet was a everyone thing

Did Atari reveal the exact chip they will use now?

Sounds like it will be the AMD Ryzen Embedded V1202B

Wouldn't surpise me since the Smach Z uses the V1605B. Both Smach and Atari have had their own mini displays in AMD's booth in past tech shows

Pick one out of a hat doesnt matter whatever gets the delay
