#4252568 Shift-Clr/Home: More 8-Bit Thoughts In A GigaBit World (fwd)

Posted by RobertB on Fri Apr 5, 2019 10:26 PM

---------- Original message -----------

From: Lenard Roach
Date: March 24, 2019

Greetings to all Superheroes and Super Criminals out in cyberspace:

I wanted to let everyone know that, after almost 2 and 1/2 years of waiting, delays, and other problems, the latest... from my warped mind have finally gone "live" on Amazon and are available for purchase through Amazon books.

www.amazon.com/Shift-Clr-Home-8-Bit-Thoughts-GigaBit/dp/1546363866/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=Shift-Clr%2FHome%3A+More+8-Bit+Thoughts+In+A+GigaBit+World&qid=1553437659&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull

..."Shift-Clr/Home: More 8 Bit Thoughts In A Gigabit World" is my second compilation book on bits, tips, and articles that I've written over the last few years and have been previously presented in various Commodore computer publications throughout the world. This book is designed to appeal to the Commodore user and non-Commodore user alike. Many have enjoyed my first book [Run/Stop-Restore: 10th Anniversary Edition] and have eagerly awaited the second. Now it is finally here and available...

[The] book runs $14.95 each. Your support of my work is greatly appreciated.

Thank you again to everyone for your patience as I tried to make [this] as close to brickhouse perfect as possible. I'm sure that those with a keen eye may find more mistakes than I did.

Please enjoy... Now it's off to work on the next book...

#4153268 Kanet updates GEOS Megapatch, geoDOS 64, GeoConvert

Posted by RobertB on Thu Nov 8, 2018 6:11 PM

=========== Forwarded message =============
(from "nonefornow" at the c-128.freeforums.net site)

Markus Kanet has updated the GEOS MegaPatch program.  A D81 containing the upgrade files for both C64 and C128 is available here.

https://gitlab.com/m...megapatch64_128

He also has made available the source code here

https://gitlab.com/m...h64_128/current

Here below I am reporting his complete announcement.

"Hi there!

It has been a while... but after nearly 20 years a new release for GEOS MegaPatch V3.3 is available for download!

GEOS MegaPatch V3 is a system upgrade for GEOS 2.x. It supports many hardware devices like 1541,71,81, CMD FD,HD,RL, and as a new feature since the last release from 2003: Support for SD2IEC devices with NativeMode disk images up to 16Mb. Also additional SuperRAM drives up to 16Mb are possible (if you have Hardware like Ultimate64... or VICE).

MP3 also supports many RAM expansions like C=REU, GEORAM, RAMLink or RAMCard. It has a TaskManager which allows up to 8 Tasks active at the same time. You can switch between many applications using C=+CTRL (or using GEOS.TaskMSE and left+right mouse button). Requires lots of RAM!

I have tested this release with GEOS 2.0-US and GEOS 2.0r-US(GEORAM). On GEOS128 only GEOS 2.0(with C=REU) has been tested.

Note that this release does not include a DESKTOP manager. You need a DESKTOP application like DESKTOP (from GEOS 2.x), DualTop (my preferred
DE), TOPDESK (used by many German users...) or GeoDOS (an GEOS application developed and updated in 2018 by myself).

The English release is based upon the same source code as the German release but has not been tested that much. Most of the translations are based on my very poor 20 years old English. Feedback is welcome!

The release can be downloaded here.

The Source Code is available as Plain Text here.

Please excuse my bad English since that is not my first language. If you have any questions i will give my best to help but technical English may
be much more complicated.

Markus"

============ End Forwarded message =============

Markus has updated geoDOS 64 and GeoConvert, too.  See

#4098751 Is a white C64 PSU more reliable?

Posted by RobertB on Fri Aug 24, 2018 11:32 PM

...toss that brick, or build a wall.

The late Jim Scabery, the last Commodore dealer in Portland, Oregon, used the Commodore bricks to edge his front lawn.

#4097365 Is a white C64 PSU more reliable?

Posted by RobertB on Thu Aug 23, 2018 2:41 AM

IShould I be worried about it or are the white ones known to be reliable.

(snip)

...do I need one of Ray Carsen's "savers?"

Both the black and the white power supplies are buried in epoxy (unless you have the CBM repairable power supply).  Both will get hot, so hot that the internal components will eventually self-destruct.  If you don't want to replace your p.s. with a heavy-duty power supply, then buying and installing a Ray Carlsen Computer Saver is a wise decision.

The countdown is approaching lift-off for the August 11-12 CommVEx!   Gear is being gathered, programs are being prepped, and Commodorians/Amigans are anxiously awaiting the show!  :)  As we have for many years, we'll be at the Plaza Hotel, third floor, 1 Main Street, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Just a reminder to check out the CommVEx website at

         http://www.portcommodore.com/commvex

as it is updated with the latest show info, i.e, exhibitors, presentations, raffle prizes, door prizes, freebies, etc..  Also check out the forum at

         https://www.commodor...ewforum.php?f=6

for any more details.
Friday, August 10, is set-up time, and expect the show room to be open at 2 p.m. for exhibitors and anybody else who wants to drop on by.  Saturday, August 11, at 11 a.m. CommVEx officially begins and continues through 5 p.m..  Then we have an unofficial Saturday night in the room for talk, hacking, programming, or watching Commodore/Amiga videos.  Sunday, August 12, CommVEx opens at 11 a.m, and we carry on 'til 5.  Thereafter, we start the tear-down of the tables.
Come and enjoy the Commodore and Amiga computers... come and enjoymthe camaraderie of fellow Commodorians and Amigans.

          Sincerely,
          Robert Bernardo

#4059274 Advice for Commodore C64 and Commodore +4

Posted by RobertB on Thu Jun 28, 2018 6:37 PM

Any ideas on a good AV upscaler to HMDI mid range price XRGB-mini is too deep for my pockets

Ray Carlsen and I use an item similar to this --

https://www.ebay.com...A8AAOSw9N1VyiNJ

A very clear picture.  The only problem is that with a HDMI monitor the picture is always stretched to fill in the screen.  Perhaps with a HDMI t.v., you can force the t.v. to display a 4 x 3 picture.
