  1. Keep in mind the Retrotink 2x and mini are line doublers as such the output frequency follows closely the input one and some TV don’t like non strict hdmi signals … the 7800 is one of those console with a weird analog signal but far from being the only one. It may have gotten better with more recent TVs but it’s a draw of luck … I don’t think there is a list of TVs <-> console-mod combo to tell you what works and what doesn’t… the elcheapo hdmi converters are full frame buffer so the out signal is usually hdmi conformant alas they add one or more frames of lag and also some stutter (at times they have to drop or repeat a frame) … even the retrotink 5x in triple buffer mode does that but it is the only mode that works 100% … the other 5x modes (low lag/direct) are back to relying on the TV accepting out of spec hdmi signals. TV were supposed to handle VRR by now but I have not followed and not sure what limitations that entails. HDMI used to require 60hz sharp (I think but I heard some monitor/TV handle also 59.94 which was the old NTSC std refresh rate) but consoles can be all over the place ( check https://www.neo-geo.com/forums/index.php?threads/neo-geo-aes-ntsc-refresh-rate.220691/ for AES/MVS numbers just for fun).
  2. The MCP is a region free device as well so original JP games will work, as well as original EU (bar the few that were PAL optimized and may show some issues on NTSC machines). I have 2 of them, one reflashed with PSKai … not that I need it because my 2 Saturn have modchips and region free bios … still PSKai would allow MCP play backups in case (but it looses the memcard feature) … for PSKai an AR is a better donor at least it keeps the extra RAM functionality on that one. https://ppcenter.webou.net/pskai/
  3. No converter for Jag controllers? Or the SNES NTT data pad? Or the famicom network controller? They all have at least 2 fire buttons and a full keypad, not sure how complex the protocol translation ought to be … the collectorvision phoenix could use the ntt snes one if memory serves but maybe it’s not protocol translation.
  4. Yesterday I fixed my CV after it started to display video in tinges of yellow/brown a few years ago … been busy so couldn’t fix it earlier. Anyhow fyi my CV has the 5v ram fix, the composite AV mod via 318 opamp and l modified the power to use 3 elcheapo wall chargers to generate 12/5/-5 internally (the chargers pcbs sit inside the case at the front left, just before the controller bays, can even see the 3 leds from the grille when connected to mains). I have 2 std controllers but one is a little shot and I don’t enjoy using the working one either, also have 2 sac again one shot and not enjoying using the working one much at all. Is there any modern controller replacement for the CV? I was hoping in not too expensive options. Are the white Adam ones any better?
  5. What was that meme about opinions and assholes and everyone having one? Why is this thing still going? There’s no Amico … simple as that (points if you get the citation).
  6. Are you planning a CPU update? as for I mean a "mere" 100$ more at that point ....
  7. I just recently started playing again with my GC … it basically sat unused in a container for almost 8y. I bought it very late when I started collecting videogames consoles but only had a handful of games for it and the gbplayer. Anyhow I had lying around a xenogc bought long ago but never installed … until last week. It worked and came with the xenoshell 1.05 firmware… I installed it because I wanted to try gbi … alas my gc did not like mini cdr … or so I thought … turns out it was fine once it heated up (went from red error box to just booting, I could reproduce it at will, once warm it would boot mini cdr all the time)… of course I since performed the pot adjustment and now it boots mini cdr 100% without needing to warm up. Anyway I found out there’s an updated fw for xenogc that can run xeno.dol from the MC (can be any dol with that name … like Swiss)… and it does but it seems it only works for the smaller MC … a 1019 and 2043 did not work but a 251 did (all unofficial cheap knockoff). There is another xenogc fw version that allegedly can run Swiss.dol from sd (sp2 as well but I only have a DOL-101) but when I tried that fw the disc stops working (even with original), I managed to reflash back to “MC xeno.dol” fw by starting with the chip off, recognize an original, switch the chip on, put the Swiss disc in, it then boots it and then reflash (I thought I bricked my xenogc for good). So now I can boot Swiss via mini cdr or with any bootable disc by pressing start/z with the 251 MC with the xeno.dol in … neat! And of course I had an unopened wiisd around since about a decade as well so via Swiss I can play many games that way too, aka no need to burn mini cdr. Was wondering if anyone got the “sd Swiss.dol” fw working, may as well boot from sd if possible vs MC due to the size issue above.
  8. I think the second is worth watching to fully appreciate how bad of a job he did on the first AND on the second too. It’s supposed to be an apology on the mistakes of the first but I think it makes it so obvious he literally didn’t research much at all but he never admits that. Example 1: “I said 128bits but I got confused it’s 64, … (bunch of excuses)… but then bits don’t matter.” … then why did you bring that up? Example 2: “I don’t know anything of the other Atari consoles (video shows in letters the 2600, 5200, 7800 and the lynx) … plus the 7800 is like beaten by the SNES” … you don’t say … 7800 came out 5y before. So given you didn’t know the Jag either you didn’t know anything about any Atari console … great, but you had to make a crappy video about the Jag. Example 3: wrong console game footage .. “I don’t have a Jaguar or even an emulator and didn’t try and I didn’t want to steal gameplay footage …” … let’s just steal bad info on a console you’ve never tried from a company you know nothing about and make a video out of it … because that’s what you do. ——— Jag or no Jag this guy is clueless and thinks that he doesn’t need to do any actual research and maybe try something himself about the subject of his video … but of course he feels entitled to make a video about it full of misinformation and once called out he makes an apology video in which instead of simply stating he’s sorry for the shallow shitjob he did he instead makes up excuses and proves even more how crappy a job he did without ever admitting to it. ——— And I don’t even particularly enjoy my Jag games so I don’t even care if he think it’s trash or not.
  9. Yup, I have Orta OG disc myself and confirm. It requires the disc in and it downloads the game from the cloud (honestly I have not tried installing it while not connected).
  10. Returned the One X … felt bad as with the SSD it was good, yet those episodes of not recognizing any XBOne disk were concerning … and I didn’t need or want both. The Series X has been great … from boot to menu in 6 secs + resume play … it does make quite the difference especially with a 150 price cut on a new Series X (pretty sure the heavy discount is MS last ditch effort to regain some market against PS5 and flushing out the pipes as much as they can … the price of officially refurbished is now also still down at 399). PS: a Series X at 347 is definitely great. The One X + SSD was already 260 so … at that point. (both +taxes -> so for me ended up 380 vs 285 … the extra 95 were worthy. The One X technically does not need the internal SSD but then an external one is almost required anyway as it gets slow) PPS: I even bought my first “next gen” game with Exo One … it’s different and at 16+taxes I’m ok if I end up not liking it too much … we’ll see. (next gen ‘cause Switch games could run no pb on launch XBOne or PS4 let’s be honest) PPPS: putting back the original HDD in One X took me for a spin. Just swapping it back in would not work, using the same OSU1 thumb drive I used for the SSD update failed as well (I left the HDD untouched since removal, no reformatting or anything) …. then I remembered there was an update since the SSD swap so had to use the latest OSU1 files and since I left the original HDD intact at the end I got back into working order with the boot animation too … scared me a little tbh.
  11. Missed it. Locally here there was a Walmart store about 45min away with that offer. But during a particularly long work day this week I caved and ordered a used - like new Series X from Amazon again, at 348.50 lol …. seems sold and shipped from Amazon (it said Amazon services llc) and should arrive on the 28th. Meanwhile the used hyperspace One X is doing great … didn’t really need both … I do have time to return it but I also updated it with an ssd which I can remove … still in this case the seller did nothing wrong … maybe the Series X like new breaks down in 3 days like the renewed one did before it who knows and it’ll have to go back again. I don’t even know why I bought it? Probably because I found a few new games that are series X|S only while browsing the store … and then fear of missing out … aka stupid reasons as I don’t actually plan on buying much if at all … Anyway this year has been the first time since 2015, when I purchased the MCC edition Cirrus White console for the wife bday, that I bought modern consoles with the Switch first for the kid and then this recent irrational Xbox something-or-the-other streak/obsession. PS: played a few more hours on the hyperspace One X and no real issues. Last night I tried Panzer Dragoon Orta ( the Xbox OG game ) and noticed the fan went up but the console surface was not even warm to the touch. From time to time it did refuse to recognize any One game discs I would put in, could hear it spin but no icon … until restarting the console from the menu … since then I read having an external usb drive connected may do that, so left it unplugged and so far so good … mildly inconvenient for sure. UPDATE: reconnected the usb ssd and now it’s fine, I did perform the “tugging the disc a little on insert” as indicated on a YT video … not sure that’s why it’s been more stable the past 24h.
  12. So now there’s a discount for new Series X at 399 with or without Diablo … me thinks the new one offered on Black Friday at 449 wasn’t such a success after all … funny thing on the Xbox.com website the refurbished ones are still 449 … why? Feels like they want to flush the new ones out … hopefully that drives the used ones down too … eventually!
  13. Of course but price of the Series X is just not right, likely for me a Series S + optical disc reader (if they ever make one) would be the sweet spot, I hope prices would come down in the next couple of years so eventually I could pick up a used Series X. For right now the One X is relatively good, I can tell 4K stutters here and there but overall I'm ok with it. I thought about 2TB but then again I am not really looking at installing lots of stuff and my external 1TB Samsung T5 is where things go for now as it is very easy to move it around if I ever get a Series X. I do need the optical disc reader as I do have a few discs I want to still use. For example Halo Infinity (dual gen disc) as well as Forza 6, Minecraft One Edition, Rare replay are all physical discs ... I am fine with the disc being just a key to download the updated version mind you, I just like buying really cheap discs (the One X hyperspace white was allegedly the NBA 2k20 edition which was to be had digitally if I understand correctly, the seller actually included NBA 2k21 physical copy with the used console ... not that I would play it but nice touch). On the side I was mightily on impressed how Panzer Dragoon Orta (I had it for well over 15 years) works across all the generations (OG/360/One/Series) ... if only the licensing on those older OG/360 wasn't such a mess back compat is a beast on One, One X and Series X, and the OG titles were nice (many of them already supported 720p bitd), granted I think about half of the 360 library is playable, the OG showing is pretty slim.
  14. Finished Panzer Dragoon Remake on the Yoshi’s Egg white XBox One X with no obvious overheating. I will keep it at this point so I decided to swap the hdd with an ssd (found a new 1TB SanDisk 3d nand for 44+taxes on Amazon). Tearing it down was quite easy, swapping the hdd also very easy. Performed the OSU1 maneuver and it worked like a charm but as expected it lost the boot animation. Checked for OS updates and luckily a 500+ MB one was right there … the first time it kind of got stuck after the validation, it went black on screen but with the white power led slowly flashing, let it there a good 5 mins until it auto shut off. Restarted manually and I repeated the update, this time it went pass the validation progress bar and completed successfully and as expected I got the boot animation back. It takes a smidge less than 30 seconds from pressing the power button to being signed in at the dashboard ready to play … happy with the results given the modest investment. Note that I have been using an external usb ssd for years with my old XBox One (no S or X) so that part stays the same as it makes moving consoles super easy … but I like a faster boot and much snappier UI, maybe I would move some of the smaller games internally we will see.
