#4228423 Atari 800 cartridge lock down clamps available? Or 3D Printing?

Posted by Panther on Tue Feb 26, 2019 7:50 PM

Be warned: if you try to use the brown levers on 800's without the raised aluminum casting under the levers, the levers won't work

right (stay centered) and they will slide around and the lid will come loose.  You will have to put some kind of spacer inside the brown

lever to keep it centered.  I know this from experience.

Do what I did, just swap the metal shield with one that has the raised parts...

Okay, I have way too many 800s around here.

Also works well with the NEC AccuSync AS193i.

#4021851 Any done a full cart to CAR conversion as yet?

Posted by Panther on Sat May 5, 2018 4:25 PM

In the spirit of sharing -- though I should figure out a way to do so elsewhere -- here are a few of my favorite personal train photos.  Completely off topic I know...but hopefully some folks who see these will like them.  Four shots of The Durango & Silverton vintage RR and one pic of an old narrow gauge Pike's Peak steam engine.

I love riding the Durango-Silverton, summer or winter.  Some great scenery along the Animas.

#3986029 THE!CART... New 128MB FLASH Cartridge

I don't know how to do this. Ahhm... how can I do this? ;)

Download this file made of 32K 0's:

In Windows, you can use:

copy /b cart.bin + blank32k.dat cartnew.bin

This will add the blank32k.dat file to the end of your cartridge file.

Honestly, I think that half the fun of these things is doing the work of filling your own cart yourself.

And some people believe that the fun of something like The!Cart is actually designing, building, and programming it, so are you planning on doing that as well?  =B>

#3970044 Ultima for 400/800

The best remake, too bad you need an old Mac to play: https://www.lairware.com/ultima3/

Or, a virtual machine to run it.  :)

Yes, this was an excellent remake.

XF551 boards aren't that fun either.

At least with those you only need to worry about one side!  =B>

#3513346 1200XL OS to 400 / 800 OS

If you just want a simple way of switching between different OS ROMs, the APE Warp+ 32-in-1 OS works great.  Once installed you can switch between 31 different OS ROMs (the 32nd is the menu system itself), by holding down Select at power on at which point you get a menu to choose from.

For a certain person getting ready to perform this upgrade, here are some photos of the 74LS02 and wiring without the shrink tubing over it.  Note that I did not use a socket and opted to wire directly to the chip.  I also removed the unused pins and trimmed the remaining leads.

If you look further up the page on that link you'll see some detailed images of my installation, which should make it quite simple.

Okay, I took another attempt and found that the MaxFlash cartridge versions (both 1Mb and 8Mb) work.

#3503342 New video upgrade coming soon!

Posted by Panther on Tue May 3, 2016 12:00 PM

Because UAV picks off the signals at the source (the lines coming from GTIA), you should have to undo other video mods unless they're really invasive.

"Shouldn't have to undo" is what I'm sure he meant to write.  :)

#3501362 Mega Speedy format error

Posted by Panther on Sat Apr 30, 2016 1:18 AM

Exodus loads in 11.5 seconds in Mega Speedy mode.  This even beats Happy mode at 12.9 seconds.  =B>

For comparison, stock 1050 mode takes 26.8 seconds.
