  1. Exactly... Do you know the difference between multiple revisions of RP2A03? (i.e. RP2A03, RP2A03B, RP2A03E, RP2A03G)
  2. MaximRecoil, thanks for your tips! I am pretty sure one channel is missing. I have the NES hooked up to a CRT TV and I compared it's audio output to both another NES and to Wii's virtual console's NES games. There are also some homebrew NES ROMS that were written to test audio. By running one particular ROM I could clearly clearly detect channel 3 was missing. (For that I used a flash cart) I think it might be the 2A03. It has two audio output pins, which are mixed together by an external circuit. One of the pins outputs channels 1 and 2. The second pin outputs the rest of the channels. I can hear channels 1 and 2 (pin 1) and 4 and 5 (pin 2). That means the mixing circuitry is probably OK. I would not make sense that the external circuitry would make one of the channels disappear. The NES has only 10 ICs: http://console5.com/wiki/Nintendo_NES-001 One of them is the lockout IC, which I know is working, and can be disabled. Maybe trial and error would be feasible. The problem is: where would I get replacement 2A03? Would I have to sacrifice another NES? I have two NES systems: the one with the sound problem which looks awesome, and another one which has no sound problems, but looks awful. Maybe fixing the defective one is not worth it. Maybe I'd better switch the motherboards and keep the defective one as a source for parts. What do you think?
  3. What's up, guys? I have some sound issues with my recently acquired NES (toaster). Audio is OK, except for channel 3 (triangular wave), which seems to be absent. As a result the audio sounds shallow, as channel 3 is usually used to play bass lines. The other channels, as far as I can hear, are OK, though. Have you guys ever seen some seen something like this? What do you guys think might be causing this? Maybe a damaged cap? I have never opened the console. I have checked the AV cable. It is OK. Tested RF out: same thing happens.
