  1. Might be worth adding “known issues” To the first post in this thread that has the firmware update info.
  2. I agree. I’m thinking either an Everdrive or Duo firmware (or both) is going to eventually address this. It’s clearly possible to get them working. It’s just initial detection that’s wonky.
  3. I have all my original printed manuals. but for those new to the scene or folks that have long since said goodbye to their original kit, I get you. I remember as a kid getting Yars Revenge. But I could not play it right away for one reason or another. So I read the included comic book and it got me and my imagination so psyched for the game. The cartridge labels were also full on masterpieces that really got the imagination going. Digital is just not the same. On the topic of UIs, I like some of the toggle methods folks have suggested. I also understand that some folks would rather all effort go into compatibility but I think that’s misguided. Eventually the path to 100% compatibility leads to a necessity to change some behaviors of the emulator for special circumstances. The easiest way to do that is with a menu. Something worth considering, would be having the menu pop up not only when toggled, but also when an unrecognized cartridge was detected. In that case it would also be useful to display the hash of the dump (if completed) or a specific error code related to why the dump did not complete if failed. another reason for a menu would be, a soft virtual numpad could potentially be rendered in the lower right hand corner of the screen with some opacity and control of the virtual numpad could be done with the second joystick. If a 7800 controller is used, the second button could be used to toggle the virtual numpad on and off. As much as I like keeping things simple. I also need bathroom breaks and only have time for short playing session now days. Which means, I actively avoid anything that could lead to a long unpausable/unsaveable playing session. Panky the Panda is another game that would be great to have passwords, pause, or save state.
  4. Hey folks, I learned on the Facebook group “Anologue Console Owners and Fans” that there is a swap trick that can be used to get some Everdrives to work with the Analog Duo. It worked for me with my v1.2 everdrive running its final firmware with the Analog Duo on firmware 1.1b. Disclaimers and caveats: I have no idea if this could cause damage to your Duo or Everdrive. If you attempt this, it’s at your own risk. I have no idea if this works for all versions of the everdrive. Your mileage may vary. Either I don’t remember the in-game hook to return to the everdrive menu or it does not work on the Duo. I could not get back to the everdrive game list menu except by exiting out and relaunching. Here’s how to do it: Insert a real Hu card, any game. Run it and fully quit out of the game and back to the Duo menu. Go to “library” Remove the real Hu card. Insert your everdrive (if you haven’t already, you will need to remove the plastic top on the everdrive so it will fit). Launch the library item for the last real Hu card you had previously inserted. It will load the everdrive and you should see your list of games. Select your game and play. using this method I did an entire playthrough of Street Fighter II, and about 20 minutes of Ninja Gaiden.
  5. Open to help kick the tires. I have over 100 2600 games and about a dozen 7800 games. All NTSC. Including variants of quite a few. I also have a few working 2600 consoles and a working 7800. Updating hardware/firmware via a windows pc is not a problem for me. 🙂 Fun Fact: I started and maintained the unofficial Retron 5 compatibility list back in the day. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oDQByg6OWl6eFwzqLdJm18tDjCZ2up1b2DbOdJyRxFc/edit
  6. As a collector/enthusiast/preservationist I agree with JetmanUK. So many experiences are being lost to time. The reason some of these games hit so hard at the time and stuck with us isn’t always due to pure nostalgia. Sometimes there was nuance and ingenuity that provided a novel experience. ROMs can be loaded, the game can boot, but those don’t always lead to a recreation of the original overall experience. I have OG Atari’s and a Retron 77. But I really appreciate and feel that the Atari 2600+ is the closest we’ve come so far to bringing back the original experience on new hardware that looks and feels like the original. It’s really darn close. Cheats, Saves, Pause would all be welcome enhancements. But sincere thank you for what we’ve got so far. I wish Atari would someday partner with Analogue. An Analogue Atari that played 2600, 7800, and 5200 and supported all the peripherals would be absolutely wild.
  7. I don’t know if this helps, but a few weeks ago I was searching up and down for details on how the touchpad worked. I found nothing. So I asked Bing AI and it told me this: The Atari keypad worked by using a matrix of four rows and four columns of wires, each connected to a different pin on the controller port. Each key on the keypad was a switch that connected one row and one column when pressed. The Atari console could scan the keypad by sending signals to the rows and reading the columns, or vice versa. For example, if the Atari sent a high signal to the first row and read a high signal on the third column, it would know that the key labeled "3" was pressed. The Atari could also use the potentiometer lines to read the keypad, by using pull-up resistors and measuring the voltage drop across the switches. This way, the Atari could detect multiple key presses at the same time. Another thing that would be cool to have would be Cheetah code support. It’s actually built in to Stella but might be tricky to implement. That said, keypad support would do wonders for opening up accessibility and adding easy to access new features like Cheats, save/restore states, etc. I imagine the switches and one button joystick make adding stuff like that a bear to access.
  8. Does anyone know if Stella's Stocking works on the 2600+ I’m thinking of buying it cause I want to play Stay Frosty.
  9. It just updated and now just says “Scheduled Delivery Date: not available” Ah, well. A Steam Deck weekend it is.
  10. Speaking of… not sure my 2600+ is arriving today after all. The tracking hasn’t been updated since Tuesday. Thats gotta be some wild weather!
  11. Got an update on my shipping from FedEx. Looks like mine went out late then encountered bad weather delays so it’s supposed to arrive on Friday. Hopefully that means I’ll get to play a bit this weekend before going back to work. Oddly, my order details on the Atari page no longer link to the fedex tracking. I had to dig up the email from last week.
  12. Mine has said fedex label printed since the 16th but I suspect I too will join the waiting for Dec brotherhood. Was hoping to play over Thanksgiving holiday, but oh well.
  13. Here’s hoping there is a breakthrough with the touchpad. Star Raiders is calling my name. Spent so much time on that as a kid. Really psyched to see the UK gamepad on deck for release!!! I’ve debated importing a pair for a long while. I have only been lurking through half of this thread so maybe I missed it. But how healthy is the relationship between the Atari+ project and the emulator authors whose work is being leveraged? Love seeing all the behind the scenes stuff!
  14. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll jailbreak as soon as it’s available. But I already feel I got what was advertised.
  15. I wonder the same. I’d like to play on my tv with the filters and frame blending enabled but I don’t know how to get into the menu while docked. I have been having a lot of fun with GB Studio. I understand why analog is being careful to try to cater to home brew but also avoid the CND hammer of Nintendo. there will eventually be a jailbreak. But there will always be folks buying things for the potential vs the advertised features. I feel the advertised features work just fine. It’s wishlist items that leave some folks disappointed. I have tons of original carts. So I’m happy enough. Though I hope the Lynx and TG 16 adapters release soon.
