Feeling pretty sour right now. The Genesis I got at a yard sale years ago has a screw attached to the heat sink/shield that's so rusty that it's practically cemented into place. Nothing moves it, nothing! How the hell can I do an S-video mod on this thing with the sink in the way?

Annnd all the screws are off the heat sink. I had to boil it to expand the metal and soften whatever adhesive they used. Still gotta get a replacement 7805 though.

My old Gen1 has rainbow banding so bad it's almost unplayable. My Gen3 is much better, lol

Good luck my friend! I really like S-Video from a Genesis! I have one CRT with S-Video, though compatibility is hit and miss for some reason...And I have convertors for S-Vid to HDMI and VGA...

http://kiblitzing.blogspot.com/2018/07/errata-2600.html It always bugged me that five years ago, I published the wrong pinouts for the Coleco Gemini's TIA chip. Here are the right ones.

http://kiblitzing.blogspot.com/2018/07/get-picture.html So you CAN connect a Genesis to a VGA monitor! Except you have to build the cable yourself. And only some VGA monitors work. Ugh.

Yeah, you need to look for monitors that start at 15Khz frequency - luckily I have one of them (NEC MultiSync 3D - but it's a bit small). Building your own cables can be a pain sometimes but the reward is worth it for the superior picture. As for the Pound cables, why couldn't they use the 5VDC from the AV port instead of the USB port? I don't get that at all.

The Atari Flashback just became the Atari FLUSHback. I kept a few parts and the joysticks but the rest went in the trash. At least a bit of the plastic helped me fill in that gap in my other crappy Flashback product...

Was at a garage sale yesterday when I found an A8 power supply. Asked if they had the computer it belonged to, when they said no - but wished they still had their original VCS. Woman said she bought a Flashback, but returned it because it was nothing like the real thing. Was so disappointed. Gotta love those types of people! And by "those types", I mean normal... have standards and will accept no substitute. ;-)

Me and a mate both have heavy 6-shooters, and CX40 joysticks. His kids are 8 and 10 years old, and love his Atari. Too much, because it takes up his only CRT with RF, so he bought them a Flashback 8 Gold HD. Even his kids, after just a few hours on it, absolutely hate it. They hate the look of it at 720p, and prefer CRT, and hate the wireless sticks. So I told him to just buy another cheap CRT TV.

I have to thank the flashback for getting me back into Atari in the first place, but right now I'm using it to prop up a rickety shelf.

For use on an HDTV, I would need upscaling. And also 4:3. They'll come out with that probably sooner than later, but in the meantime I'll stick with my trusty CRTs with composite. :)

I just played Space Asteroid Shooter in Steam. My advice? Don't play Space Asteroid Shooter in Steam, or anywhere else. An Asteroids clone you control with a mouse? Bleech.

Lucked into a Super NES for $9.99 at ShopGoodwill, with another $11 for shipping. I need a controller and game, though. Suggestions?

For the record, and this could be nostalgia talking...I think the coolest music on SNES is in the game Cool World. It also has nice graphics but odd gameplay. I like it, but most people don't.

Console5 sells an S-video kit for the Genesis. Is it worth it? Seems fairly easy to install.

What's wrong with RGB? Nothing seems to use it. I've got DVI monitors but evidently it takes a LOT of work to make them work with a Genesis, if they do at all.

Buy a cheap small CRT ?
You can often get cheap Sony Trinitron TVs, 14"+, for next to nothing.

Call me crazy just this knock off with HDMI looks like a fairly decent solution.

http://kiblitzing.blogspot.com/2018/06/toys-bust.html It's the end of the line for both Toys R Us and the Williams tables in Pinball Arcade. Profound sadness!

So many memories of going to Toys R Us as a kid, looking at all the displays for NES games.
TPA has lost so many good tables because of this. Much sadness.

At least you can still enjoy those Williams tables via all the Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection compilations from the makers of The Pinball Arcade. Once they're on a disc or cartridge they can't take them away! =)

There are physical disks of season 1 (and 2 in europe) a bit perplexed why the righthold would rather make no money on their property. Fortunately if you own the tables you can still play them at least until they can no longer be downloaded

A question. The Sega Genesis has RGB out, and DVI monitors do too. Is there any reason I wouldn't be able to make a love connection between them?

DVI establishes a digital connection whereas RGB is analog. And, the analog RGB connection coming out of the Genesis would need to be connected to a scan doubler in order to output to VGA. In short, not going to happen to your DVI display. Better to get that new Genesis knockoff with HDMI.

Wait, doesn't that little plus sign on the right hand side of the cable support analog RGB? But the scan doubler thing would most likely be a problem. I wish I knew more about how this stuff works.

There are a bunch of lists of monitors known to support 15 kHz. If your DVI-I monitor is among those, it might work right out of the box.
