  1. I've recently found a cheap Flashback 2 at a thrift store and brought it home. On startup, however, I find the video and audio are totally garbled. The video feed is just a bunch of garbage graphics, and the audio makes either a loud, continuous beep, or no sound at all. I don't have the slightest as to what could be causing this, and if it's able to be fixed, then I'd like to try and do so. Anyone have any idea of what might be wrong with it?
  2. Apologies if this question isn't substantive enough to make a dedicated thread, but I wasn't seeing any other information regarding this topic. Simply put, I know that Atari had very restrictive authoring rights for games made under Kassar. Namely (pun intended), programmers weren't allowed to identify that they had worked on a certain game. My curiosity is specifically in regards to Atari Golf; Do we know who made this game? Are there any records of or interviews with this person? I am looking for more info, but struggling to find leads, and since this is the #1 Atari site, I figured I would come and ask here. Hopefully my question is not received as being made with ill intentions Incidentally, if you know about other developers of notable golf games, I would welcome that intel as well, but primarily at this time I am looking for information on Atari Golf (1980). Thanks all!
  3. Hi there, I think this is a super list, and I wanted to add some suggestions for more games to consider. A few are sequels that have gotten recent translation or which you may just have missed. Mario's Picross has a japan-only sequel that plays easily without Japanese knowledge, and there's also the recently translated Pokemon Trading Card Game 2, which plays well like the original. Since you had some classic rpgs on the list I felt I would also mention dragonheart, which impressed me as an interesting first person rpg, and Wizardry Trilogy, which was ported to the game boy color. Not sure how good of a version it us compared to the SFC and PSX ones, but it's something worth considering. Finally, I noticed you didn't mention Ikari no Yousai 2 (aka the sequel to Fortified Zone), maybe you didn't know about it? I played it without any Japanese knowledge. And one more game I don't see mentioned that I feel is worthy is X, the unique 3D tunnel shooter for GB ( which got an obscure sequel on DSiWare called X-Scape). I hope this gives you some more to chew on, thanks for the comprehensive list too! I'll definitely be checking out some titles from this set. And thanks also for mentioning some awesome overlooked games like super rc pro-am, f1 race, Tecmo bowl, and NBA jam. All games that get ignored because of other versions and such, so I'm glad to see them with a spot in the light.
  4. I found some images of the internals online. From the look of things, the design actually uses a piece of sheet metal with a perforation cut out as the 'switch'. I need to verify though. I'm going to do some tinkering and see what I come up with.
  5. Addendum to previous statement: the right ramp "add bonus" switches do appear to work (noise us made on contact) but it is not very responsive. Only on rare occasion does making the shot actually trigger the bonus. I think I need to look up a repair guide to remedy this issue.
  6. I'm very confused as to how it will work though. Will this be a multi-switch only game? I can't imagine it working otherwise. Incidentally, Namco Museum DS also had Pac-Man Vs. built in, and it supported single-card multiplayer. Personally I'd go for that one, if only because it's definitely cheaper these days, and you're way more likely to find four DS or 3DS than four switch in a single spot.
  7. They might allow stretching in Vertical to give full-screen, but personally, I think it's more likely they'll do a border over the other solutions. For me, I'd rather have a border (or no border) and preserve aspect ratio than get erroneous graphics or cut-off elements.
  8. I hacked my system years ago, partially for this series. We're really lucky that we even got the second one, and we probably got it only because Sonic was on the cover. There's a few reasons why we aren't getting the last one. The main one is that Sega just isn't a strong brand in the US beyond Sonic, and even if in Europe they enjoyed more success, they wouldn't likely bother localizing for Europe unless they expected to sell in the US as well. The second reason is that they'll make more money selling the digital versions. Producing the physical game is a decently sized cost, and when they already have many of the 'big name' games on the eshop, there's not a lot of encouragement to put the package out there. Not to mention that they get a decent chunk of change off of the games, since ones like Gunstar Heroes and Sonic 2 sell for 8 bucks on the shop (if I recall correctly), meaning the money adds up quickly for those games, almost to the amount of a retail cart. The last and possibly biggest reason, though, is that the 3DS is in a fundamental shifting point. Namely, they are losing the '3'. Nintendo announced the New 2DS XL. With that model they officially shut the book on '3D' games, and with it, any hope of releasing this package here. Sure, they could still do it, but that will not mesh cleanly with the image Nintendo wants for the remaining years of the system's lifespan. The timing is not right for us unfortunately.
  9. Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut (PS3) The House of the Dead 2 (DC) Final Fight CD (SCD)
  10. I have the American Pinball, it's fun but I wonder sometimes if the 'Add Bonus' markers in the right ramp are actually functioning correctly. But then I'm not really sure what the Add Bonus spots are for gameplay-wise. Do they increase the value of the Milky Way shot? Or is it for some other purpose?
  11. Emulation is definitely what I expected, flojo. Given that the Dreamcast has the requisite controls available, it would work in theory. I guess my first question is whether or not any versions of MAME that are on the Dreamcast support light guns. Steering wheels are essentially just controllers with a wheel for left-right input, so I'm not as concerned about that, but light guns of course demand a bit more specialized approach. And I do have a good CRT, so use of said light guns is no problem. I'm more probing to see if anybody has gone down a similar road and can share info relating Dreamcast MAME and light guns.
  12. Cool man! Always good to see someone putting some love into the classics. There is, actually. I've not used it, but I know that there's an N64 homebrew that you can run off of an Everdrive 64, and it lets you back up save data from Game Boy games, via the Transfer Pak accessory. That would be cheaper than a Retron, I'm pretty sure. Unless you don't own an N64, controller, transfer pak, etc. Sheesh, talk about a lot of trouble. The wormlight for NGPC just sounds to me like the headphone adapter for Wonderswan, despite all of the stuff floating along on ebay, that adapter I've only ever seen on Japanese auction sites, and at 10k yen minimum to boot. Talk about things you should have bought when they were new! On the opposite side of things, I was pretty happy today. Popped into my local game store and got an SP2 (in black) for only 30 bucks! It's rather dirty, but still works and plays fine. Also grabbed final fantasy legend 2 since there was a deal going on. Will be fun playing a solid RPG on the go as I break from wonderswan japanese lessons.
  13. Today I happened to stop into my local game store, and found among other fun new hardware a second dreamcast light gun. I was thinking about DC light gun games when it occurred to me that, thanks to my also having a Saturn racing wheel, and a saturn to dreamcast adapter which supports it, that I in fact had two light guns and a racing wheel. It also occurred to me that Dreamcast could run MAME, and had various ports to it through homebrew efforts. So my question is, can Lucky & Wild be played on a Dreamcast, using the system's own light guns and driving wheels? Given that the only machine I know for it is a 2 hour drive away from me (and needed repairs when I was last around), it would be swell to have it more easily played. I have a PC hooked up to my TV as well that should run it, but I figure I should ask here about the DC since I have all the requisite hardware (I would need to buy some PC light guns). I suppose I could also play on a Wii, but that's not quite the same as a real light gun for me. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing back.
  14. That sounds like a reasonable plan, I don't imagine I'll find one otherwise. Thanks for the reply.
  15. Hello all, I'm looking to buy a wonderswan flashcart. I am familiar with the wonderdog as well as with the flash masta WS. The latter sounds more ideal for what I want, however they do not appear to be selling them on the flash masta site any longer. Is there another place where they are being sold, or perhaps an owner that would be found and willing to part with one? Thank you.
