#3207093 New game released: Tecno Ninja 25 years anniversary edition

Posted by apemaster on Fri Mar 27, 2015 10:44 AM

I hereby proudly present the new release: TECNO NINJA 25 Years Anniversary Edition - exclusively for Atari 8-Bit computers (XL/XE standard models work fine).

gamecontents.png

It comes in a big box (31x22 cm, that's 12.2x8.7 inches).

It contains:

- the 5.25" disk for Atari 8-Bit

- 12 page full color instruction booklet

- wall poster

- detailed maps for all 10 levels (100 screens)

- $5 discount coupon for the upcoming Tecno Ninja II release

Enhancements compared to the original game: Of course the box, instructions, poster and maps already make it a great collector's item. The old titlescreen has been replaced with a more modern one that also fits the box design. It has a new cool music and I removed the annoying landing-code copy-protection. The game itself is still the same great fun as before, with 10 levels (100 screens in total) each with different themed graphics, music, monsters, lots of hidden passages and items, weapon upgrades etc.

I will make a very limited number of copies. You can order it by sending 25 Euros to yoda@yodagames.de. This already includes international airmail shipping. In case you want more than one copy, you can deduct 5 Euros of each additional copy (so 45 for 2, 65 for 3 etc.).

Here's the ATR file for playing. Enjoy! But be aware that without the instructions and maps, it's quite difficult ...

Important: Do NOT write-protect the disk, otherwise it won't load.

It was me and I stand by my choice. My set will be used with my adult friends as a drinking game at retro get togethers.

Personally, I am offended by the wanton killing of innocent frogs so I will be removing the frogger cards from my deck!
;)

Haha! Good one!

It's too bad about the Custer's Revenge characters.

However, for me the Custer's Revenge cards would make for very uncomfortable moments.  The fact that the characters come from a rape themed game severely tarnishes what would have been a very cute card game.

The Custer's Revenge was a wish from one of the early orders, when it still was in "pick your game" status.

But no need to be sad: You can just take the two cards you don't like and throw them away. Voila!

And if you want it really "clean", black out the tow images in the instructions, too.

Basically, the game works with any number of cards. You can take out any pair of cards you don't want.

I will also create some add-on sets later, so you can create the game of your choice.

Sure! As soon as a decent number of copies have been sold, I will do upgrades for both. For example: Homebrew pack, rare games pack, prototypes pack, whateveryoucanthinkof pack. Suggestions welcome.

Obviously it means an image of a game you choose. Not your image, haha.

I didn't find my sourcedisks, unfortunately. I can't believe I threw them away, so I still think they must be somewhere, but I have no idea.

Especially because I want to make Tecno Ninja II, and also maybe Zador III.

Any graphics artist around that would like to join these projects?

I'd find it much more interesting to create some new games or ports of great games that don't exist on the A8 yet.

#3196316 What was the crash of 1983 like?

Posted by apemaster on Thu Mar 12, 2015 10:27 AM

Many years later we visited the German warehouse of Atari, and had a talk with the CEO. That guy told us that he still has lots of inventory for XL/XE and he would sell the cartridges to us for very cheap prices (like $2 per boxed cart) - but we had to take at least 1000 carts. Oh my god! But we talked him into mixing 10 different titles, so we had 100 each. That was something we could sell. And there we games like Crossbow, Crystal Castles and other interesting titles, as well as the big boxed Asteroids and Spave Invaders boxes.

When the truck arrived at my house, I was shocked, because there was no way to fit all those bix boxes in my room(s). So they unloaded everything in front of the door and we had to unpack everything, folding the boxes flat (fortunately possible) to shrink everything down in size.
