  1. My Atari set up, back in the day, cost $1100. That was pretty much the total amount of money I had made working on a farm for the summer. (I think my wage was $3.15/hour) I am reasonably sure that was the summer of 1983, so the computer purchase would have been in the fall - September or October. I purchased an Atari 600XL, a 1050 disk drive and a 1027 printer. No memory what the cost of the individual pieces was. When I think about what I am willing to spend $1000 on today, it makes me laugh.
  2. That would make more sense. Of course even 4GB isn't a high bar for anywhere with a reasonably modern infrastructure. (Now if they are all on dial-up ... )
  3. I enjoyed this interview very much. There was one moment that made me laugh. "We don't have any practical way to transmit 4 MB of data." I'd be willing to bet there is someone going to those meetings that has a reasonably modern computer and an internet connection. *Edited* to note that my laughter was fond, not mocking. I remember those days well myself, but it's been a long time since 4 MB was considered a lot of data.
  4. Very nice! Poking around, I notice that the link for the Jaguar Games Part II is the same as the link for ST Archive II. I'm not planning to download any of that, but I expect the duplicate link was not the intent.
  5. Such a great game. I have gone back to that one repeatedly over the years. There's a lot more going on in Rainbow Walker than in Q*bert.
  6. Great interview. I really enjoyed listening to that.
  7. Perhaps the default should not be to assume something weird and offensive is going on unless there is evidence of bad behaviour.
  8. So he likes to emphasize words with font effects...why is this a problem for anyone?
  9. I've observed this too. Another workaround is to pause/unpause with F9.
  10. Noooooooooooo! I just finished playing through Ultima III about a week ago with the ever so awkward (and yet manageable) ] / ' \ key combination. But seriously, that's a great feature, thanks for all the work you put in.
  11. I "accidentally" played through Ultima III over the last couple of weeks, so I can verify that it works properly. There does seem to be a missing dungeon more-or-less directly north of Lord British's Castle, but I'm not sure if that's how the game was originally or not. My memories of long ago suggest it should be there, but I wouldn't swear to it.
  12. Amen. After what they did to Jeff Minter over TxK, the faster they dry up and blow away the better.
  13. My faves (not mentioned so far) include Rainbow Walker, Arex, Mr. Robot and His Robot Factory, and Oil's Well.
  14. Wow! Personally, I find that kind of thing to be super-interesting. Thanks!
