  1. I wish I knew how to make good sounding sfx with the 2600
  2. Hi there. It's been a while since I haven't made any sort of game for the VCS, so here's a little something I made to get back into 6502 programming. You have to press down to play. The game isn't very smart though, the outcome isn't randomly generated. Slot Machine.bin
  3. Those sources just don't help me that much. Either it's too technical or too abstract.
  4. So the modulator simply combines the intermediate frequency signal generated by the TIA to the right carrier signal to generate the RF signal? If so, how does the TIA generate an analog signal with its given binary values? From what I know, when it comes to picture processing, the colour of a pixel depends on the width of the signal wave, while the luminosity depends on its height. Sorry for being so stubborn. ^^
  5. Interesting technical information you got here, thanks I can't seem to find anything about the modulator though.
  6. Actually I should have been more precise when asking my question. I do have basic understanding of the purpose of a RF modulator. What I do not understand is how it turns binary numbers into an analog signal. I guess I'd also need some details on how a TV can convert a single signal into a color picture with sound. It seems far more obscure than modern image and sound processing.
  7. I know that, but in this specific case, how does it function?
  8. How can the 2600 (and most consoles of the time) convert the data contained in the TIA registers into a RF signal?
  9. Isn't the Supercharger a RAM expander?
  10. Many cartridge based video game consoles of the 90s had at one point a CD extension module. For instance, Sega made the Mega-CD/Sega-CD for the Megadrive/Genesis, Atari made the Jaguar CD for the Jaguar, the TurboGrafx-16/PC-Engine had the CD-ROM² System, and last but not least, Nintendo, along with Philips and Sony were on their way to release the SNES-CD, which would eventually become the Sony PlayStation. These peripherals would allow for way more ROM than regular cartridges. Thus, the Mega-CD for example, could output high quality mp3 music and display "full motion" videos, although the latters were still limited to the Megadrive's screen resolution and color palette. With this in mind, I was wondering, would the Atari 2600 be able to do such things if the games were stored on discs? Here's the 3DO version of the infamous game Night Trap And here's what I think the Atari 2600 CD version would look like
  11. Why thanks for the information everyone ^^ I didn't know all those things.
  12. So is it still legal to bypass say the Nintendo Switch security features to release unlicensed games? (even though I bet it's virtually impossible)
  13. Really? I know Color Dreams was infamous for their poorly made unlicensed games, but I thought their activities were illegal. What's the purpose of the lockout chip if bypassing it has no consequence for the game's publisher?
