  1. I thought the PS1 Frogger game actually sold a lot. I mean... Pac-Man's doing fine, even Space Invaders is doing fine. If anything it's amazing that they're holding on the way they have. They're not going to crush God of War sales but they get a new game every so often and they're usually good. A lot could be said about what became of a lot of Sega franchises, lol... you'd hope Streets of Rage 4 being such a big success would have gotten them thinking about dusting off some of the other ones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_GameCube_video_games Just under Resident Evil 4, comfortably ahead of Metroid Prime 2 and Star Fox Assault. I don't know what the budget or expectations were, but seems like it could have been worse. I suppose they're making easy money on their other franchises, so "could be worse" isn't good enough for a new one. Star Fox lingered on after Assault though (but it's probably pretty dead now).
  2. Dragon's Lair at least has the little score counter, 1942 has a vertical screen and nifty woodgrain. The GnGs are the most ordinary, vanilla cabs that Replicade have adapted, so it does kind of defeat the purpose of having a unique device. You could put any of a million games into that same box and even the cabinet art isn't much to get excited about. If it were any other such game I'd react the same way you are, but GnG is just one of those handful of games for me. Yeah I was surprised myself that the stock's lingering so long. Foot Fight sold out pretty fast and I thought it was relatively obscure. They've done multiple runs of Dragon's Lair (though I missed it again... maybe they'll do yet another someday!). 1942's still a great game to me, although I'm absolutely terrible at it, and 1943's not too shabby either.
  3. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. It would have been nice to include the Japanese versions, though.
  4. Hyper armor is in lots of fighting games now, and lots of beatemups too: Streets of Rage 4 has a lot of it, Fightin Rage has a little. As far as I can see, nobody likes it and everyone agrees it's just annoying, except for game designers apparently. Never seen it in a game from the old days, but apparently developers think they're improving on the old formulas by adding it even while everyone is begging them to stop.
  5. This should have been a total straight upgrade over the Flashback collection so I wonder what happened there. I got a little excited about all those classic Jaguar and Lynx games being unearthed and then I realized yeah it's basically just Tempest 2K huh... the other ones look like an interactive guide to why the Jaguar failed. Not sure if I need to experience that tragedy first hand.
  6. Donut Dodo is a tribute to golden age platformers like Donkey Kong. $4 now. I haven't played it but it looks interesting: https://www.dekudeals.com/items/donut-dodo-switch Searching the forum, people who played the VCS version seem to like it a lot.
  7. Ironically I think I'd have an easier time learning Sonic if the games were harder, if you had to repeat a section if you messed up. Maybe I ought to grind them with save states. You're not a fan of Sonic 1?
  8. Guilty as charged, I think... I have a go at trying to learn how to "really" play Sonic 1-2 from time to time and never can make it click. Crashing into stuff is frustrating, and the games let you muddle through to the end whether you play like a showboat or not.
  9. 10 frames of lag sounds pretty bad even for a desk toy.
  10. Nichibutsu's games like Ninja Kid and Crazy Climber go on sale more often than most. You can check sales histories on dekudeals. There are a few on sale right now. I have practically the whole line on my dekudeals wishlist... any time any one of them goes on sale, I at least think about it. But if you really want a particular game yeah just pay the eight bucks. Otherwise, even for the ones that go on sale semi-regularly you might be waiting a while.
  11. The confusing part for me is that this looks different from the Yars' Revenge remake in the Atari 50th Anniversary collection. Not that I'm complaining, but it's unusual that they'd release two different remakes at about the same time.
  12. I might be late to the party here but looks like there's two versions, one with black trim but otherwise identical: https://newwavetoys.com/products/dragons-lair-x-replicade-cinematronics-edition But now they've got me wondering if, a year from now, there won't be an extra-super-duper edition that adds Dragon's Lair 2... Same, I'm a sucker for the tiny weird controls, even if rather impractical, plus gimmicks like the Q*bert knocker. Something like 1942 lacks that kind of hook, although the wood grain is easy on the eyes. Might be one of the reasons it doesn't seem to be moving as fast as the others. I do like that they're reaching for some unusual picks, even if FF isn't for me.
  13. There's supposed to be... mine used to have a brief battery life, now it's dead. Same with the Data East My Arcade. The DE one must at least have better specs.
  14. I impulse-bought 1942 and thought I'd regret it, but turns out I actually like playing it on those goofy little controls. Not even bitter about it going on sale for even less, that's always a risk. I think I'm done with these for now... maybe the right game would make me crack, but I don't think Food Fight is the one.
