  1. Well let's see, Cybermorph was quite great actually for the time it came out, late 1993. Raiden was great on the Jaguar. That was early 1994. Wolf 3d was great on the Jag, spring 1994. AvP was great, as mentioned above, EGM made it seem like just an OK game, nothing special. Well, it WAS special. Doom on the Jag was great, EGM rated it significantly lower than the 32X version. The 32X version has less levels, not full screen, enemies are 2 dimensional, no BFG unless code used. Really crappy music. Even though Jag doom doesn't have in game music, the music between levels is high quality and great actually. Jag doom has better sound effects. Jag doom has great lighting effects. The enemy AI in Jag Doom is much better. Control on the 32X version might be SLIGHTLY better but not much. Not to mention, you could play Jag Doom in S video or RGB and in stereo even back in the mid 90s while everyone was playing 32X with RF or composite cables at best, with mono sound... Zool 2 and Iron Soldier also came out in late 1994 and I think EGM panned those games as well, even though they were really good games, especially Iron Soldier. That's a great game. I don't remember what EGM said about Jaguar Rayman which came out around the time the PS1 launch in Sept. 1995. Anyway... Also, even though the Jag CD was pretty lame, the VLM was and is fantastic. The Jaguar CD is almost worth it for the VLM alone. Not to mention, about the Jaguar, it was always very affordable. So sure, there weren't a ton of games or a ton of great games, but there WERE several great games on the Jag to be had by 1995, and many very good games. Plenty to keep even a hardcore gamer satisfied. I know I was satisfied with it. I mean, I remember back in 1995 never getting tired of Jag Doom, AvP, T2K, Iron Soldier and Wolf 3d. Just those handful of games, are true legends. Nothing matches those games on 32X. Not even close. For instance, compare Metal Head on the 32X with Iron Soldier. Metal Head is just, yuck, compared to IS...
  2. Get a Skunkboard instead of a Jaguar CD... Just watch some Jag CD vids on YouTube to get your fix.
  3. Nobody should pay over $100 for a CIB Rayman... The Jaguar version sold pretty well and there are plenty of copies out there. Loose don't pay over $60 for it. New Sealed, fine, that is rare and worth $150-$200. Or, Skunkboard. Or emulator. Or PS1 version disc only for $5 or less. Even complete can probably get it under $6
  4. The Battlesphere rawm is out there and easily obtainable. Also, you can make your own cart of it, no problemo I hope it goes DOWN in value and price... Also, Skunkboard.
  5. Tempest 2000 was the one and only Jaguar game they were nice to... So if you trusted EGM back then, you would believe the Jaguar had only ONE good game... Ridiculous.
  6. Don't you mean 450? Or was it 600? 666?
  7. Here is me reading one of the best gaming magazines of all time, Next Generation, sometime in 1995. Look what happened to be on the pages as the picture was taken. With my buddy Snowy. The date on the photo is wrong (needed adjustment), this is 1995.
  8. I have been reading EGM since the late 80's. You would have to have read all their magazines going up to 1995 to understand why it was obvious they were a paid off magazine, to mainly Nintendo and Sega, the 2 powerhouses of the early 90s. That's why they were the most popular magazine, they were paid off by Sega and Nintendo. 32X did not come roaring out AT ALL. I bought the system just about the day it launched, and the store did not have any 32X games yet! I had to wait some days for them to get in Doom and Virtua Racing... 32X came trickling out... Star Wars Arcade is not a very good game, at all. Doom is ok but the Jaguar version is obviously better. Virtua Racing Deluxe is a very good game, but an extremely difficult one to win races at... Its because it is programmed as an arcade game at heart, meaning, its designed to eat your quarters, the AI in that game is too good... So while it had good graphics and control, it wasn't THAT fun because it was so frustrating to try to win all the races... Its an overrated game. I know, I owned it and played the crap out of it in 1994. Further proof that Sega paid off EGM, is their review of both Jaguar and 32X Doom in the same issue, in which they gave the 32X version significantly higher scores than the Jaguar version. Both of these versions came out at about the same time in 1994 and it was a big deal. The Jaguar version is clearly superior. I owned both versions back in the day. To be fair to EGM, I am sure Sega forced the issue of paying them off.. At that time Sega had plenty of money to throw around, and I am sure EGM did not put up a big fight in accepting freebies from Sega... Almost nobody was on the internet yet in 1995, so to sell video game products, the gaming magazines were THE main marketing tool for the gaming companies... It was a big deal, and the Jaguar was blacklisted with EGM.
  9. Not trolling at all. I had a Jaguar and a 32X in 1995 and many games for both. I was playing Jaguar games at a friends house for most of 1994, and I got a 32X in late 1994. I got my own Jag early 1995. Jaguar was clearly the better system. But according to EGM, 32X was nearly twice as good. Myself and 2 other friends were hardcore gamers in 1994-1995. We grew up on NES, SNES, Genesis, Neo Geo, TG16, Lynx, we were always at the arcades, etc. I subscribed to all almost all the gaming magazines back then. All 3 of us had Jaguars, and only I also had a 32X. I sold that 32X only a couple months after I bought it. I kept the Jaguar much longer. I had a huge debate with myself whether to keep my Jaguar and games, or buy a PS1. I ended up getting a PS1 as well in 1995. I have always seen the Jaguar and PS1 as near equals as far as having enough good to great games to satisfy me. I only need about 15 to 20 games that I REALLY like on a system, for me to be a big fan of that system. For the 32X, there were only a few games that held my interest. By late 1995 the Jaguar had at least 15 games that I was a big fan of.
  10. As fun as EGM was to read back then, they were dishonest. They were the rumor and lies magazine... They were paid off by Sega, this is fact. They hated Atari because of issues they had with Atari in the late 80's / early 90's. Look how high they rate the lowly 32X... The Jaguar will always be better than the 32X. Better graphics and more games. Yet EGM rates the 32X nearly twice as high than the Jaguar? Things don't add up... In 1995 EGM was probably the most popular gaming magazine in the USA. So the fact that they bashed Jaguar games at any opportunity, meant lots of people passed on buying a Jaguar. Even though the Jaguar was priced fairly and had many great games. EGM and GameFan also had a rivalry back then, and GameFan was an honest hardcore gamers magazine, and they liked the Jaguar for the most part.
  11. The Battlesphere games have to be some of the most overrated and overpriced games of all time. I mean, the games are good, no doubt, but far from great. I find Battlesphere quite boring and dull. It's not in my top 10 list of favorite Jaguar games. Something about being alone in the vastness of space, isn't my idea of fun.
  12. A lot of famous people and "things" aren't truly appreciated, until they are dead. The Jaguar was given mostly unfair treatment by the press during its life. That was 1993 to about 1996. Atari attempted to kill the Jaguar in 1996, but there were too many hardcore fans of the system. It nearly died, but games just kept trickling out for it. Then, the Jaguar roared back to life when the rights to the system were given to the public. This meant anyone could do anything with a Jaguar legally. That happened in the late 90's, early 2000's. The Jaguar has always been a bit of a cult classic system. But then, toward the late 2000's, YouTube starting becoming extremely popular, and lots of people were doing Jaguar videos. In particular, the Angry Video Game Nerd did some Jaguar videos, which now have millions of views worldwide. The popularity and values of Jaguar stuff has gradually gone up in the last 5 or so years. People are curious about the system and its games. There are less than 150 Jaguar games, so that makes it a fun system to collect for. A complete collection is possible with some patience and a few years of hunting. But, values are quite high now... There are many bad games on the Jaguar, but there are also many incredibly great games on the Jaguar!
  13. Came across this quote, regarding the hidden version of Tempest 2000 in Tempest X for the PlayStation 1: "I guess I feel safe sharing this 21 years after release: The hidden 2000 mode wasn't supposed to be there. Several of the higher ups involved mandated a lot of changes in the "X" mode that I didn't agree with. I didn't think they understood the beauty of Theurer's or Minter's versions of the game. I thought they were ruining it by putting their thumbprints on it with the bitmap monsters, Helvetica font, etc. I nearly lost my job over hiding the 2000 and Plus modes in there. Many key people didn't know about it until after the game had already hit the presses. But I'm glad I did. It's fun to see people still play the game. It was a lot of fun working with N on this. We also did Saturn and Mac Classic versions that were straight up Tempest 2000 ports. We also prototyped an M2 version just for fun. That never shipped."
