  1. I've had my McWill screen since 2016, but only just got around to recapping my Lynx 2 and installing it. What can I say, it's amazing. Combined with the SD card from SainT, I'm in Lynx heaven. Thanks so much, McWill. What a fantastic product!
  2. Yes. romlist.txt is in the same folder as the ROMs.
  3. Many thanks for the great work on this new menu. I've had my Lynx SD for ages (got one from the second batch made), but only just got around to fixing my Lynx, and then installing the McWill screen. My SD card is formatted as FAT16, I've copied across the new menu files, and then copied my games in a folder called ROMS. I can't copy them into the root directory, due to FAT16 limitations. I've also used the MakeRomList tool to create the romlist.txt in the ROMS directory. However, when I power up the Lynx, the game titles still show as the shortname in menu. I've checked the prefs, and long names are selected. I was just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction, as I'm not sure what I've done wrong. Also, I seem unable to use FAT32. If I format the card this way, then all I see is 'INSERT GAME' when it's inserted. Should FAT32 work? Any help would be much appreciated. Andy.
  4. Have worked it out. Was measuring at the wrong point on the board. User error. Doh! Getting 4.89V where it matters, so all good. Looks like the rectifier and diode combo were good, after all.
  5. Just been working on my Lynx 2 prior to installing a McWill screen, and I've come across a bit of an issue with the power supply. I've recapped the whole board, and also replaced the MOSFET and diode. I used the IRLR024NPBF mentioned in the post by displaced above, as I couldn't source the original in the UK easily. For the diode, then I used: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/zener-diodes/5443569/ which RS insisted was a drop in replacement for the original diode. However, when I now measure the board voltage between the GND on the removed transformer for the screen, and the +ve leg of C23, I'm only seeing 3.9V. My initial thought is that the diode isn't quite right. However, I'm wondering if there might have been a PSU issue with the original components, as the screen had stopped working (backlight did work). Would really appreciate some assistance in further troubleshooting. Thanks, Andy.
  6. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has seen a Lynx 2 with an RF shield that covers the entire underside of the Lynx? I want to recap the board and install a McWill screen, but I can't see how to remove the shield without taking cartridge slot off (which I don't want to do, even if I could). It won't just lift off once unsoldered, as the legs of the cartridge slot prevent this. Would it be okay to just cut the shield? Thanks, Andy.
  7. Haven't had chance to look at this yet. Had a tough time over the last couple of years due to bereavements and divorce. Didn't really seem important in that context. Now I'm back on an even keel, I've started to look at these things again. I've managed to source the diode, MOSFET and capacitors. Going to change them all, and see if it makes any difference. It's been suggested to me that the screen not working might be down to a dodgy electrolytic. Will report back if I manage to get it working. If it still doesn't work with the original screen, then I'll try fitting the McWill LCD.
  8. Thanks Karri. I was trying to find the exact replacement, as I know there can be problems with the 1N5229. Seems that I might need to change R74 from 120 ohms to 30 ohms to ensure the voltage remains correct. I guess that's not too bad, as I'll be in there with the soldering iron anyway.
  9. Just wondering if someone can help me. I've just got my Lynx 2 out of storage with the intention of fitting a McWill screen and using my excellent Lynx SD card cartridge (thanks Saint). However, when I power up the Lynx, the game runs fine (California Games starts playing the intro music, and you can press buttons to start the different games), but there is no display on the screen. The backlight is working. I'm wondering if I should just open it up, and install the McWill screen, or if I should try and troubleshoot the original screen first. Would appreciate any tips on troubleshooting the problem. I'd also like to do the MOSFET and diode replacement. However, I can't find anywhere in the UK which stocks the exact replacement for the diode. The Lynx has been very lightly used, and was purchased as part of a fire sale that Electronics Boutique in the US were running back in about 1998. For piece of mind, I'm thinking that I should replace the power components. Does anywhere know where I might source the diode in the UK? Any help would be much appreciated. Andy.
  10. Please add me to the list of one of these. Looks fantastic!!! Thanks for all the hard work to produce such a great addon to the Lynx.
