  1. Awesome stuff man! thanks for responding- this will give me a good spot to start, and I also ordered some power refresh kits from Console5 to have on hand so this will be a great check to narrow down on the problem. Thanks Stephen, I'll respond with the results-
  2. Killed your Lynx? Was it a mod on a I or II? I'm having some Lynx I problems myself. I have two that I have not used in a while (almost only use my McWill model II) and when I tried to power them on from battery, I got nothing but both worked through power jack. Batteries were good, tested in Lynx II and opened up a Lynx I to make sure I had good connections with the batteries and all looked well. Didn't prod around with a meter yet but I just found it strange that both my Lynx I's after sitting for a while will not power on from battery.
  3. So you reconnected the control ribbon cable, inserted a game, pressed power and no power? Just want to make sure nothing was missed for the voltage test.
  4. I was able to pick up the parts from cowdog360, and he has a lot of insight into the Lynx power system on this thread: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/254446-lynx-power-circuit-upgraderepair-better-than-5v-mod/?fromsearch=1 But for some reason the pictures are not loading. Still worth a read though.
  5. All is well- not sparing my embarrassment and hopefully to help anyone else out there who might be making this simple mistake- A game cart must be inserted along with inserting the ribbon cable for the power button to get the unit to power on and check for voltage. Getting 4.85v. Time to get this damn mod done! Definitely will be utilizing your guide for the rest of this mod! Thanks again
  6. Thanks for the reply- I just pulled it out today and messed with it again. Still nothing, just a flash of power then dead. I tried testing the mofset with a multimeter and it tested okay, but testing on the board- not sure if I can trust that though. Thanks for the suggestion- Since the old mofset worked, why not just put it back in? I'll give that a go before I send out an SOS for someone's services.
  7. Well, I just tested this again, doing as you explained in your blog and I got .5v for a moment, then the voltage dropped down to zero. This leads me to believe my mofset troubles are not over. I can ether try another mofset or put back the original. BTW, my Lynx worked fine before I started this process. Should have tested the voltage and left well enough alone
  8. Thank you so much for the write-up! I'm in the middle of a McWill mod and I couldn't figure out how to test for 5v- I kept running power to the board through the battery connection but no luck. I tried reconnecting the ribbon and using the power button, but I don't remember getting any power that way ether. Does the power light come on when you do this? I really want to finish this mod but not until I'm sure I won't fry my new screen. My issue is that I went ahead and replaced the mofset before testing the voltage, then I had such a hard time replacing it (never did much surface mount) that I'm not sure I screwed it up. Thank for any advice you can give, and the awesome right-ups you put together!
  9. Did you do the 5v check from VCC to ground? I 'm in the middle of an upgrade myself, but don't want to go further until I figure this out. I hooked up a 7.5v battery pack to the battery terminals on the board but get no voltage at all from VCC to ground. I get the full 7.5 v if I go from VCC directly to the battery terminal ground, but nothing at the ground on the board. My Lynx worked fine before I started the process. I put in a new mofset and had such a terrible time with that(first time messing with surface mounted components) I stopped and began checking for 5v. Wish I would have done that first before messing with the mofset. Trying to be thorough and now I'm stuck. Don't want to go on and possibly damage my McWill screen!
  10. Actually, I would also like an uncased one for my Lynx 1, so for me that will be one cased and one uncased. Thank you so much!
  11. Please add me to the list! One cased card please
  12. Please add me to your list for a cased card. Very nice work! I've always browsed these forums, but this made me sign up! Thanks again
