  1. For buying games on one platform or another, retro style and jrpgs I buy on switch. Modern games on ps4 (soon to be steam for me)
  2. I am currently looking to get a gaming pc, (My first in about 20 years), but that is because there are some games in the near future that either won't be on switch or will be scaled back on that platform (Monster Hunter 6 mainly). The switch is an amazing and fun console, but is underpowered. I don't see it as either/or, I see it as why not both? Edit: not sure what is going on with the android editor on these forums... had to remove a ton of whitespace again. strange.
  3. Thanks so much for the great explanation- I'll have to experiment this weekend!
  4. I have an NTSC 7800 with no mods installed. I recently got a HOKEY basic and dropped it into my concerto cart. I notice that the HOKEY sound is much quieter than the tia sound. I also tried my original Ballblazer and noticed that the POKEY sound was loudly buzzing and distorted. I suspect that my console has developed a hardware problem. Has anyone else seen this before? Where should I start troubleshooting? Edit: fixed formatting.
  5. Yes! I am a proud member of the Atari "It's a Spear! club" anyone who says Sword is wrong!
  6. Sorry in advance for the long post - here is my summary of the show this year: I had a lot of fun this year! I picked up Roof Pooper and The Chicago basement, along with filling in a few missing titles from my Atari 2600 Activision collection (I finally found a copy of pressure cooker with a label that was still legible even with all of the actiplaque!) The museum area was Amazing this year, but the arcade was a bit lacking. It was still fun to see all of the new pinball tables and really cool to see that head to head joust table, but it felt really toned down compared to previous years. Over all I would say that last year was a better show, but this year was more fun because I actually got to talk to more people that I wanted to (Philo Barnhart was really fun to talk to, Brian Colin is always great, I finally got to meet Eugene Jarvis...). I loved playing robotron at the pie factory table, and I am really enjoying the new book from William Pepper of Atari Bytes.
  7. I couldn't find any topics about this in the forums - I'm hoping that someone has experience with this: The PS2 slim laser seems to burn out frequently. I recently heard about a fix called the matrix PIC fix. My understanding is that it is a pic microcontroller that monitors the communication with the laser. If it detects that the communication has crashed and the laser is stuck on - it shuts down the console. Does anyone here have experience with this mod? Does it actually save your hardware? Can you still buy the kit? My slim has been through 2 lasers so far and while they are cheap at the moment - they won't always be!
  8. I made it out - I got to meet Inky and Dauber, and i got to play a round of Atari 5200 Kaboom!. I really liked the twist of having one player play the bomber and the other play the bucket. I liked the new venue, but it was really hard to find the panels on time. Having it split over two floors made it tough to navigate. I also felt that there wasn't good food options on site. We found a mall food court a block or two away, but it didn't have a very good selection either. The new vendor hall was great. Everyone had a lot of space, but I did hear a couple of vendors complain about how their loading and unloading was disorganized and difficult. The pinball room and museum were combined and I liked the new layout a lot. The arcades were hard to navigate on Saturday - it would be nice if galloping ghost could find a better way to layout their room. Brian Colin's table was in an awkward place and it was hard to get through to play the games. I loved the indie developer room - I really liked being able to talk to the developers and get the inside story on their games. Overall it was a lot of fun and I like the new venue. I'm glad that I took the mega bus instead of driving myself.
  9. That's too bad - it's a really fun game. I'll still keep an eye out for your table at the show
  10. Will you have any physical copies of Anguna for the DS on hand?
  11. Is there a secret AtariAge handshake to get special deals in the vendor area?
  12. I'm going for Saturday and Sunday. I couldn't talk any of my friends into getting the Friday tickets, so I skipped it as well... Even though we are all heading there Friday anyway. Since it is in Milwaukee this year I am going to try the Mega Bus (from Minneapolis). I have taken it to Chicago before and it wasn't a bad ride - beats driving.
  13. I will not usually buy sealed games. For me the whole point is to play the games and when I happen across a sealed game I really don't want to open it. I don't see the point in owning it as a shelf decoration so I usually will pass on them - even if they are really cheap. I will buy boxes and manual for games that I really like, but mostly I just go after carts and hardware.
  14. Interesting - I see that they advertise a ProLine controller for the Atari 2600. (Page 544) "Pro-line space-age joystick by Atari is fun to use with quick-throw control knob for greater maneuverability and fast-action side trigger-style fue button. For use with Atari 2600 game (A). 67 G 94171-Ship. wt. 9 oz." I thought that those were new when the 7800 was released.
