  1. Well, Brad has always mentioned an Atari Super Tech working with him, so it might be his other personality...
  2. The saddest part in all of this is that as Brad is getting older and more eccentric, and some point we are going to lose not only his knowledge, but also all the Atari parts that he won't let anybody help him with. I have dealt with Brad since the 90s, and spent a good amount of time on the phone learning from him. It's like two completely different people nowadays. I am willing to bet big money that he doesn't even know what he has anymore, and is not willing to find out.
  3. I did actually purchase it, and it's a great RPG, I've put in some hours into it. Not sure I would call it a graphics/sound powerhouse though
  4. Looking at more recent software, what would one consider to be a showcase for the Apple IIe as far as a game and/or demo? Looking for state-of-the-art, maximum possible. As I am humbly progressing through my 6502 assembly journey on the Apple, the graphic complexity is getting to me, so I would like to see what I can look forward to if I stick with it
  5. I actually do have one in my Apple parts bin, Echo IIb. Never used it, might have to give it a try just for fun. I might be running out of expansion slots soon!
  6. Yes, I have been very tempted by it, but at the same time, I think for now I want to see what I can do with just a stock 1MHz chip. Definitely in the future!
  7. As a fairly new Apple II user, I am building my "ultimate" Apple IIe. I would like to get some feedback as to what that actually means in terms of add-on hardware. So far, I have: Enhanced Apple IIe backplate and motherboard, with 80 col/64k card, 5.25" disk drive card and super serial card Color Monitor IIe MacEffects Apple IIe Clear Case MacEffects Grey/Black Mechanical Keyboard ReActiveMicro PSU Retrofit ReActiveMicro Drive/Turbo Floppy Emu Mockingboard 2.2 ROM Xe My main goals are 6502 assembly programming and demo coding. With that in mind, is there any other upgrade I'm missing?
  8. I have acquired few Apple IIe computers with the dreaded MT memory chips, and they all show RAM issues. I was able to fix one with spares I had on hand from a donor machine, but need to get more. Can someone recommend what brand/place I should get them from? Thanks!
  9. This truly sucks. Best cables I've ordered... Hope he's ok...
  10. There are four pieces of software that, when I touched the ST for the first time, gave me the Wow factor: Sundog Dungeon Master sample of Foreign Affair by Mike Oldfield sample of Oxygene by Jean Michael Jare Later on, Captain Blood and Arkanoid clone with speech samples (forgot the name unfortunately) looked pretty impressive graphically. At the end of the day though, IMHO the most impressive software for the ST line is Calamus SL, running on a Moniterm monitor.
  11. All three of my 800s now have keyboard issues. Having a new 800 keyboard is now my ultimate dream. I'll happily buy 3-5 if they are available.
  12. Unfortunately I have to report a death in the family... I purchased an 800 on eBay, and it was packed in a small box with some newspaper. I don't have the heart to say what I received...
  13. Great topic! I am guilty of this myself, although I share my retro hobby time with motorcycle riding, so it goes in waves, and a lot depends on the weather These days I find myself enjoying fixing and/or upgrading old machines. I think I spend most of my time with a soldering iron. The days of intense coding sessions are over, at least for now, and I've ventured out to other systems, like the TRS-80 Model I-4 line, MSX, and some older Apple II stuff. Amazing what the hobby market has created for these old computers, and armed with a 3D printer, there is no limit to what you can do with them!
