  1. Plok's music is great, it's the gameplay that sucks... I tried so hard to like it, but I'm not buying the story anymore that Miyamoto loved it and would have let it be licensed if it didn't so called seem as a threat to yoshi's island. Mario/Yoshi had no fear from this one, the handling and unbalanced gameplay and challenge just sucks, coupled with it being overly long with no save feature it's a hot mess of many great aesthetics and ear treats and wretched mechanics.
  2. Devaluation has been a decades long problem I'd argue with the advent of the LPT printer port style early BUNG and LikSang peddled old school flash kits and emulators on PC as well. When you're buying you have a limited pool, and you get your monies worth whether you enjoyed it or just didn't hate it enough to return it. Returns existed into the SNES era before some paranoid suited a-holes at toy stores decided to use a tiny pre-internet trickle of flash kits as the excuse to deny a return once the wrap was busted open short of a proven defect. When you had those emulators and kits you could grab the early dumps of Gameboy and NES initially and outward from there as emulators happened and more ROMS found early archaic(by now standards) way to dump them. You'd get this asinine level of gamers equal of ADHD... you can't focus, you devalue the hell out of stuff, and ROMS become along with ROMs on a kit no better than pages in a magazine on a rack you didn't pay for. Flip...Flip...Flip...Flip...Flip...Flip...Flip...Flip...Flip.. ...go the games 2min here, 15min there, you rarely return to much of any of it. You feel guilty starting an unending trend of getting and sitting on stuff, a digital version of the shelf queen. Now you have 10s of thousands of ROMS and newly opened to you translated roms and hacks, new games even... watered down by too much and too easy free access if you have half a brain and access to a browser and know largely what the internet archive is or just console: gamename rom download and boom you're there. What Sony and MS have been doing along with Steam, key sellers, GOG and the rest is peddling a crack hit, oh shit...it's free, it's 75% off, ACT NOW! And onto the next...and the next. It's why I only largely anymore buy local, buy cheap, or screw it because there's already too much. I have a steam wishlist over 70 I think, I may buy a few this year depending on time, steepness of discount, and ? I avoid humble bundle and their clones, same reason...stupid mistakes. Yet you have Nintendo where unless they overprint + it doesn't sell well (fairly rare) no physical sales happen, digital moderated and not often, because they know not to act like the rest of those price hustlers devaluing basically their currency.
  3. Same cart size, same size on the CHR/PRG chips, really no excuse other than rushed to market for the Famicom launch or laziness, or potential temporary incompetence not getting what the hardware could do perhaps even.
  4. Ahh I'd have to look at a disassembly on the CMOS side then when I get some time (next 3 days I'm on a 15hr work day) to see if I'd dare bother. CPUspeed sound like moslo I used up through owning a P200mmx in the era to keep a few testy dos gems (like wing commander) working happily.
  5. I will say this thread made me pick up Tales of Phantasia since it was long eating at me for never finishing it now both times I've owned it. I'm being casual at this rate leveling up a bit to get the gear and a few item grabs of restoratives during fights on the map before doing the basic slay the boar battle in the forest.
  6. I'm curious, given the mods to it, if someone wanted to get a modern battery off ebay (etc) that works for it to make the thing portable again is that possible? Also I saw on there too you could get a modern rechargeable CMOS battery for it, is that possible to add still as well? I'm pretty interested, I have kept a number of my old DOS/Win98 era floppies/CD type games about and this might be too fast for them, I'd have to check, but it not this could be a really good solution. Pretty sure I have an adapter and just an old controller or two that should still work with it for old game play. If it could handle an old one, I'd hope a USB hub would have some chance, nub mice stink but a normal mouse would be nice.
  7. It's a nice concept, but it's also a 100% no purchase for me no matter what it could potentially do. I refuse, even if it's under the cap, to mutilate the plastic shell of the console itself for some fluffy dubious to last/be supported expansion piece. It's the same reason why I was miffed when the ONE solution to get FC audio off the system vanished and in its place 2 popped up that also required chopping the bottom. Not happening.
  8. Just looked those SFC titles ups, nice box art and they fit the game decently for sure. Psycho Dream is one I'd still like to own, but it is free of sorts now, been on the Switch SNES freebie shop for a good year now or more at least I think,
  9. This right here is the most correct answer. I've given up on owning consoles at this rate, except for one...Nintendo. Why? That. They don't devalue their stuff, if you want a deal buy it second hand private or trade, whatever, as usually that does knock off at least a 1/3 which is fine but if you want it new you're paying what it actually is sustainably worth. Does MS and Sony do this or really most third parties? No. THey create no good will or trust that they value their stuff long term, just that within the first 4-6 weeks they can hound buyers to pay up before doing weird digital sales or allowing stores to knock off 20-33% if not maybe more depending. This has gone on since the PS3 era actively sabotaging their efforts as the home console turned into a budget walled garden PC effectively. That's why I have a Switch, and a computer. I can get my third party games at my leisure. Ever look at Steam (gog even at times) when these new games come out? Right off the top they'll do a *HI* attention whore-lite moment and sell stuff at 20% off immediately, I've seen it here and there as steep as 50% off the first 1-2 weeks...but only there, if you bought the console one it's still $60 (or the rarer $70.) WHat the f is the motivation to pay when you know it's going to come out with a small to steep deal and that quarterly seasonal and big holidays (christmas, black friday/thanksgiving, new years, etc) will go even into the deeper territory of 50-75% off? Just wait... it's a good argument never to buy their games at full price because they don't value them at full price up front or not for very long. Also a great argument against buying stupid $500 consoles when a $1500 computer that'll last 2-3 console generations doing the same output can do all a computer can a console can't. Sure it's more up front, but if you'er a gamer... $30 off on that game this week, $20 the next week, another $25 here...$10there. What if you're saving $100 a month? That's $1200 in ONE YEAR...oops...console evaded successfully and full price games evaded equally so.
  10. You're right, no need to justify it. He's just riding a justice boner based on fuzzy logic and a lot of idiotic fallacies to smoke bomb his way through being ok with some thieves, but not other thieves. Theft is theft, not a hard concept.
  11. It's fine...fair enough. I still have it, not picked up more games for it though I don't think since that last post. I did grab a few things I wanted at one rate because there are some decently solid B+ tier horizontal scrollers on it that are blatant ripoffs of stuff like Gradius, etc I wanted to try and wasn't thankfully disappointed.
  12. I believe this book has it, don't have one to confirm, maybe a PDF exists? https://www.geeksline-publishing.com/our-books/34-anthology-64-classic-edition-9782380170108.html It's not just games, but a history book to start ...see here... 13. I remember that being one of the rarer high priced stand outs other than the jerky Square tax they did on their RPGs making them like $65-70 for Chrono, The FF games, etc. SF2 I remember paying $65 for it, it angered me, but I was playing the arcade a lot then trying to learn it with other jerks putting up quarters and you can't learn well...bleeding dollars I figured the $15 up charge I'd lose in quarters and far more so I bit. Within a week I was not losing my quarter, people stayed away. I was annoyed so I put the game once I got the motions down on 7/7 difficulty and cleared it all except for Dhalsim and Zangief, did them on 5 or 6. I figured odds are the home games default was easier than arcade whether the cab settings were default or not, so I guessed 7 would be just cruel beyond the machine and up like a gamer would do and it worked.
  14. Yeah there were a number of them. The Resident Evil games were, Killer 7, so was Metal Gear Solid. I don't want to try and remember or even list more as I know some, so I did a fast google, this is the first hit. https://gamicus.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_multi-disc_GameCube_games (also includes 2 CD packages where it was 2 games in a case, game+ demo, etc.)
  15. I had found one of those as NOS in a busted box maybe 2 years ago, and your whole delay thing was real and it was annoying, but the real infuriating bit which is why I don't have it, the stock button (or shit coding?) causes it not to shoot every time you push the fire button which is death in either game after about 5min of playing as the difficulty ticks up.
