  1. I think a perfect name for the game would have been The Adventures of a Green Hair-on-fire Maniac Diving Air Hose Facilitator. -Ben
  2. I know it's not the most beloved title in the Atari VCS library of games, but shouldn't Name This Game at least get a mention in the AtariAge Archives section under "Atari 2600 Contests"? Whenever I think about Atari games with associated contests, that's always the first to spring to my mind, because the name of the contest is right there screaming at you in the game's [unofficial] title. How can ya miss it?! -Ben
  3. I seem to never get tired of blasting my way through the Fish Force Fields in VentureVision's Rescue Terra I. Nobody ever talks about playing it because it is so rare, but it is truly a great game. Programmed by the same guy who wrote Laser Gates for Imagic, and I really like that one too. -Ben
  4. If you have cartridge ROMs saved as computer files, I believe the file sizes would match the cartridge ROM sizes. -Ben
  5. I don't own one, but I have read there are some (but very few) Atari 2600 games that the 2600+ either won't play correctly or at all. I think that's also true about the Atari 7800. So beware. Nothing beats having a heavy sixer for that authentic Atari 2600 gaming experience. That faux wood grain styling just screams 1970's. And having the difficulty switches right up front and big is such a convenience compared to the later models. -Ben
  6. Gee, running EVERYTHING at 5V and re-adjusting the pot to compensate sure sounds like a solid idea. But then, if Ben Heck was smart enough to design his own 2600 portable and author a walkthrough for it, he was probably smart enough to give your idea consideration, too. The fact that he didn't do it suggests there was some technical issue he was aware of, that you are not, which made the idea infeasible. But what that technical issue may be, I have no idea. If you can get his email address, you might want to ask him. I'm positive he would have the best answer for you. -Ben
  7. I'm not much of a homebrew enthusiast. I've only got six homebrew games (including the one I made). But if this game is ever released on a physical Atari 2600 cartridge, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. HERO is among my favorite games for the VCS. And if John Van Ryzin wrote it, I'll cheerfully pay whatever price they ask for it. -Ben
  8. I picked up a loose copy of SQWW at a thrift store, some 20 years ago. It was in "near mint" condition. They sold it as part of a bag full of loose Atari 2600 cartridges. The bag set me back $10, but if I divide that ten bucks by the 25 or so games that were in it, I guess I paid forty cents for SQWW. Plus tax. Damn the tax. -Ben
  9. That's good enough for me! Ima gonna go buy the Elmer's Glue Stick. Thanks for your response. -Ben
  10. I see your video included some real stinkers, but your list really should begin and end with Skeet Shoot by Apollo. Hands down, it is the worst Atari 2600 video game ever marketed. Skeet Shoot redefines the meaning of the words "minimal" and "horrible". I could have written that game in 20 minutes with half my brain tied behind my back. -Ben
  11. Glue sticks seem to be the frontrunner here. What I was really hoping for, though, was to hear from somebody who re-glued some labels 20 years ago or so and can tell us what glue they used and how it's holding up so far. Anyone? -Ben
  12. I think it's important to judge the 32 in 1 Game cartridge, as you should ALL Atari 2600 games (and that goes for books, songs, movies, and many other forms of art too), with an understanding of the time in which it was released. In 1988, putting 32 games on a single cartridge, with no ugly switches on it piercing through the label, was a pretty neat trick. Many of the chosen games are quite good, and it's quite convenient to have immediate access to them without the need to dig for individual game cartridges to swap in and out. And where the heck else am I going to get my hands on a game like Ant Party so cheaply? -Ben
  13. Alas! I sold my only copy of this game years ago, without having ever played it. ~sniffle~ -Ben
  14. Besides, it's already been done. Multiple times. You can download all, or most all, Atari 2600 ROMs from Atarimania.com and from digitpress.com. -Ben
