Atari is 'saved' by infogrammes (same old, same old, going round in circles)

El Cheapo comes to mind

Back to the future comes to mind

So let me get this right, Atari are letting infowhatsitname buy out the company again even though it was the financial problems at infowhatsitname that lead to Atari going into administration (or Chapter 11 to you people) in the first place

If i were the religious sort, I'd say that the man upstairs isn't playing fair with Atari fans (or is it that the man upstairs thinks that Atari fans are 'gluttons for punishment' and have inflicted the evil that is infowhatsitname on Atari fans once more)

Or probably that the man upstairs either doesn't know videogames or doesn't know what a 'bad egg' infowhatsitname is and the half arsed attempts that company has made in making any sort of success out of it's Atari ownership

Perhaps, we should have clubbed together and did a kickstarter/crowd funder type thing to buy Atari (as somweone here suggested)...if it went to infowhatsitname for that amount (plus a 20mill. loan)

Interesting article about 'fixing' E.T (didn't know it needed 'fixing...

Now all we need to do is find the concreted dumping ground at Alamogordo and dig out those 5 million 'defective' ET cart's...Let the fixing begin (after all, Atari did claim that the cart's being dumped at Alamogordo, were defective, along with the millions of Pacman carts as well)

Anyone know there this 'fixed' version is and what difference(s) there are betw. this 'fixed' version and the version originally released

Perhaps someone can fix 2600 pacman as well along with all the other bad/dodgy or downright crappy 2600 games

I've heard of RT, as mentioned in the article (who hasn't) but who is 'recompile', since is mentions him as an AA user/member

new emulation section i've just come across

http://theisozone.com/downloads/retro/

Seems to support quite a lot of systems (inc. orig. psx and DC) and ofcourse various FLAVOURS or ATARI

get downloading

I only noticed the site since it has a few pc games

wouldn't it be an idea to create a single linkable repository of all known emulation sites or sections (regardless of content) and have it as a sticky

Any chance of an 'Open Sourced' Atari platform (Any flavour of Atari)

Fri Apr 12, 2013 6:12 AM

Following on from Thordbg's thread about the built in OS in his emulator and given that the only 2 regularly maintained emulators now come with their own 'tweaked' versions of the Atari O.S, It begs the following question

Is there any chance of an Open Sourced Atari platform (not just the A8)

After all i beleive there now exists third party OpenSourced versions of TOS (so called EmuTOS)

And given that Atari++ and Altirra already come with their own versions of the Atari OS we are kind of partway there

And since both EmuTOS and the two A8 emulator OS's support the various ST/STE and A8 upgrades that are programmed into the emulators (i.e. VBXE, Hard drives, Memory expansions, Disk Drive mods and other such things) I think the impetus is there to get the various and all Atari platforms more opensourced, even games systems like the 2600/7800 and also Lynx/Jaguar etc...It might just lead onto more 3rd party development (both hardware and software)

After all, whilst i so of accept that Linux hasn't dismantled M$$$'s dominance of the desktop computer OS, It has really given M$$$ and sony/Nintendo serious competition in the desktop and mobile gaming OS markets (thanks largely to Google opting for Andriod, a linux derivative)

After all, Atari themselves aren't interested in hardware platforms anymore and anyway we don't really need someone like Atari to make an Atari Opensourced platform successful (after all I read somewhere that the original 'flashback' sold 500000 units and with virtually zero marketing or advertising from Atari themselves, given that flashback had to compete with the free to download software emulators for the 2600/7800, in my book that aint bad going considering the piss poor support atari gave it)

To get around the issue of copyrighted hardware (i.e Antic, Pokey and GTIA) I guess it wouldn't be too difficult to reproduce/replicate those chip features without neccessarily infringing copyright

All hail the world's "smallest" games system

Looks interesting, system is 'cheapish' and the games seem cheap enough (even if they are basically portovers/conversions from other android compat. systems)

I think they will need some new games content if they want to be taken seriously

If they go get the support though, I think the likes of Sony and M$$$$ might have to start lowering their prices or going down the same route as the linked to company and offering a stripped down version of a ps4/xbox but usb/hdmi stick stylee
